Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent Recipe

Buy zote on Amazon: goo.gl/N8ahff
Becky starts by answering some questions about homemade liquid laundry detergent. Then she shows you how to make it. First you start by grating the whole bar of zote into the 5 gallon bucket. Then you add 2 gallons of hot water and stir until the zote shavings dissolve. Then you add 3 more gallons of hot water to the bucket. Put the lid on and wait 24 hours.
This makes a double strength soap, so before you use it, fill your gallon jug half way with water then fill the other half with your liquid laundry detergent. Give it a shake and it's ready to use.

Hello. I'm Mexican and Zote soap (Jabón Zote) has been used for generations and generations (especially, washing baby clothes and cloth diapers). I'm happy to see how useful this soap is in other countries. P.S.: The white one leaves your white clothes super white and clean. 😀

megan ochs Hello Megan! Actually, we use the whole bar, but this is when you wash your clothes by hand, but if you want to use it for your washer machine, it's better if you granulate it, just like in the video! I'm glad to hear that liked it! 😀

Lucia Gave my wife is from Guatemala and she alsways uses it on her clothes. The only bad thing about the way the woman describes it is it's way watery. I wish there was a way to thicken it up like regular laundry soap.

I made this about a year ago give or take I just finished up my first batch and I feel like I can give a good review of it now. I think it works really well. I have two teen boys who get really dirty one works at a mechanics shop cleaning lots of greasy things the other one practically lives in the woods lol. It works well on thier clothes. But it also doesn't irritate my skin or my daighters skin and we are both sensitive! Also I noticed my towels have never been softer and they feel so fluffy. And the biggest change I have noticed has been in my machine itself I use to have to clean my machine quite often because it always developed a smell after a week or two ( that's using tide by the way) my machine is so clean all the time and I havnt had the smell come back since I started using this. I would recommend

Good morning Becky and all you do it yourselfers. I wanted to let you know that I just made my second batch of laundry soap per Becky’s recipe....however I didn’t wait until the next day to finish. While it was still warm I poured it into containers half full, warmed more water and filled the containers to the top. This morning the laundry soap is the perfect consistency. Saved me from having to do anything today. Perfect, on to other productive things. Stay safe and have a wonderful day.

Thank you Becky for making this so simple. A year ago I tried to make laundry soap and mixed up the measurements. It was for a dry version and I put in one bar zotes and three cups borax two boxes of baking soda. To say the least I was disappointed. I have had this dry mixture sitting around since. I think now I might be able to salvage it. I didn't know what to do with it for the longest time.

Hello everyone, I have been using this same soap since the first time I made it. I don’t think I’ll ever want to use store bought detergents. I love the fact that I have only spent a couple dollars on detergent in the past 3 months. Although I did choose to not dilute the soap as much as the first time I made it. The first time, I used the original recipe she demonstrated except I only added one cup of borax. The second time I made it I mixed 1 bar of zote soap to 8 gallons of water + 2 cups of borax. I can tell a difference in cleaning power although I still think I need to tweak the recipe a little more. My he washer is huge and I feel like 3 cups of the original recipe was not getting my husbands work clothes clean and even some of my kids really dirty clothes so that’s why I chose to dilute it less. Three cups of the original recipe works good if I wash like a small to medium load. I’m still going to work on changing the recipe until I make it to where it works for us. Has anybody had this issue?

My soap is not only the best it costs pennies to make and it keeps my machine clean. Thanks for sharing your recipe for making soap. The only problem I had was that the soap was like jello. What I found was that if you add regular laundry detergent ( the smallest bottle of liquid soap) I use tide because I like the smell of tide and I use the one that has softener added to it. I make my dish soap the same way but instead of adding laundry detergent I add a large size of Ajax dish soap the next day because I like my dish soap to have suds and I like the smell of the lemons. I don’t use a full bar of soap I use half a bar to a 5 gallon bucket and it lasts me almost a full year. I also use this soap to clean everything even shampoo my carpets with it. It’s better than any soap on the market.

I love my homemade laundry soap too - I have a similar recipe but I like Borax, just have to know to wash your clothes it in warm or dissolve it first. The powdered version doesn't work well in cold water washing. I've not noticed any fading and I use my homemade soap in my HE machine, I just add it to the tub, not the dispenser it it gets gunt up.One more detail - Distilled or Purified water is best as TAP water has chemicals and may mold :( - Thanks for your version Becky!

I have a question. On the video, you said you can make the detergent with just Zote without Borax or washing soda. If I want to do the powder version, can i just shred the Zote and put a little Oxyclean and / or baking soda? Mix them very well and put 1 or 2 TBSP of that mixture into my H.E. machine each time? Do you think it will work the same as the liquid version? If yes, it will save me a lot of time and money. Thanks

Have you every try the dawn kind. 1/2 cup blue dawn dish liquid, 1/2 cup borax, 1/2 cup super washing soda. Makes 1 gallon. Use 1 cup per load.

Fels Naptha does NOT leave oil stains! That is what it is good at REMOVING!

Pammie Doodle i think it was originally made to be a stain remover. It used to have naptha in it but the govt made them remove it a long time ago but it still works well. I don't know what they replaced the naptha with.

I did exactly everything you said. And the next day Its still watery. Nothing like laundry at the store. I wonder if I should cut back to like 3 gallons instead of the 5 gallons. It smells amazing but very watery.

You can add Downey scentables but then you are adding chemicals. How about some essential oil.

How do you add other scents to the detergent? I think the same scent all the time would get old eventually.

Zote soap isn’t readily available here so I sub for a 2 pack of sunlight bars... works amazing and a lovely lemony smell... it does cost a bit more ($2 Canadian for the 2 bars) but to make about 5 gallons (18-20 Lt) it’s soooo inexpensive!!

I generally let it dissolve overnight and stir it the next day. You have to insulate the bucket, but it's easier and just needs some light stirring in the morning.
