How to make an outdoor projector screen for camping, backyard, or for the park. This screen is made of PVC tubing and aluminum rods. It folds up really small, it's lightweight and easy to carry. Pair this screen up with a portable projector and you will have a night of fun and entertainment. The cost to make the screen as shown in the video would run about $114.00 The screen could be made for less if you leave out a few unnecessary items.

Is the spandex thick? Rumours say that the thinner the spandex is the more light passes through and causes the projector image to look dull and washed out.

I would say that is true. The screen I bought is pulled tight, but not to the point to where the material is opening up. I don't think mine is washed out at all, but I could see that happening with thinner materials. This is a great point to bring up, thanks for posting the comment. Pinning this to the top.

@@Ricks_Tech_Talk Thank you. So it seems that even if the light passes through the fabric the image will still be clear, sharp, colorful and not washed out for front and real projection? So the spandex material doesn't need to be very thick but can't be super thin either?

I wouldn't use it for the everyday screen, but mines stays sharp and colorful. I would look for a thicker one just to play it safe, plus it should last longer.

Excellent design! I'm watching this and PVC shopping at the same time. Going to go 120" and use rebar for my anchors and 1/2" EMT conduit for anti-flex in the PVC. Thanks!

I have a large screen as well. It's 120 or 110 I forget. But the pvc for that screen is 3" schedule 40 with no supports in the center and no need for anything in the tubes for sagging. To make the big one stand up I used T connectors and added 2 feet of tube on each end, then that connects to the one tube coming down. Have fun and thanks for watching the video

I have been thinking about using PVC pipes for this exact purpose. THANKS!!!! for giving me a great head start on accomplishing my goal!

Using metal rods to stabilize the legs is a brilliant idea. Thanks for the tutorial.

I love the idea. Looks like we have the same screen. Would I need to place a darker material on the back of the white screen so the movie doesn't project through the screen since it's not going on a solid wall? Thanks

You should only need the black layer on the back if you are up against a wall or if you care that others might see what's playing from the other side. Both my screens have no back layer and they look great.

Looks like it needs a black backing. The black border implies there is one, looks like a marketing gimic, but it would definitely be improved with some black opaque material behind it 👍

The black is another fabric material sewed on to give it more strength and to keep the grommets from ripping out. Adding a black sheet would help if you have lights on behind the screen. I tested that when making the video, it didn't seem to make it any brighter so I left it out. We just used it for the last time this year and I'm thinking of making one a bit larger :) Im going to post a picture on the Facebook page if you want to see how it looks 10 mins after sunset. Thanks for watching and for the comment. facebook.com/RicksTechTalk/

@Ricks_Tech_Talk research "Cinegrey" or it could be spelt "Cinegray". It's the shade of grey they use for cinema screens 👍

@@Ricks_Tech_Talk it's also known as Tension High Contrast Grey 👍

Looks like it would be great for home. For camping, the spandex material works great and it won't wrinkle. That Tension High Contrast Grey looks like it would be great if you had lights on or not in complete darkness.

So many to pick from. The only one I use and is still running great is the Anker Solar Portable. They have some great deals going right now it looks like. us.seenebula.com/pages/christmas-light-projector-for-sale?ref=navimenu
