Homemade Pull Up Bar

I made this video very quickly to show my pull up bar which I have just made. I was looking for ones on the internet but they were all very close to the wall. I wanted one that I could actually do muscle ups on (in time) but couldn't find one for a reasonable price that I could afford. This one cost me £55 in total and its probably a lot stronger than any one you could get on Amazon.

This video is 5 years old now. Did the bricks give way at all?

I see this was put together 5 years ago! Hows the weather treating it - no signs of damage / rust etc.?

+Greg Nicholls . Hi Greg. Thanks for the comment and the like. Please share my video. This is what I bought from theMetalStore.com 2 x Galvanised Tube 33.7mm 3 metre length. From this I cut 2 x 1 metre length (upright rails), 2 x 85cm Lengths (side rails) and 1 x 125cm Length (hanging bar). 2 x 90 Degree 2 Way Elbow 33.7mm tube diameter - 125. Connects side rails to hanging bar. 2 x Wall Plate 33.7mm tube diameter -131. Connects side rails to wall. 2 x Swivel Locating Flange 33.7mm tube diameter - 169. Connects Upright rails to the wall at the bottom 2 x Single Swivel 33.7mm tube diameter - 173. Connects top of upright rails to side rails. You will need to wall anchor bolts as well to attach it all to the wall. I've had mine up all winter. Its still solid and no rust. I use it most days without any problems. Hope this all helps.

Wow that bar looks solid. I didn't even move when used.

Is it holding to the wall with only 4 screws? Is it just a single layer of bricks? Will the bricks hold? I have a similar bar but my wall is bricks o ly, I don't know if it holds or not :/
@arsytee
@arsytee 4 года назад
it is being held to the wall by 4 bolts in each bracket at the top and 2 larger thunderbolts in the bottom brackets, so 12 bolts all in all. The wall is double skin in my case. I'm not sure how it would fare on a single skin wall but probably wouldn't suggest it.

I want to buy this setup myself, looks good, seems strong. Still I wonder about the allen screws... is this strong enough to withstand the pulling force? Did you drill the pipes so the allen key would sink in? Or did you apply loctite to the allen bolts? I wouldn't want to smack the pipe to my head after a few pullups, full bodyweight force + punchbag. :D Cool video, great idea, hope you can give some feedback about making this as secure as possible.
@arsytee
@arsytee 6 лет назад
LaurensVRC. The Allan grub screws, screw in very securely. It's been up for 2 years now. Every so often I check to make sure they are secure and there is never any movement. I muscle up on it, the kids play on it constantly and it's very secure.

Nice build. I want to do this but am weary about mounting to a single layer brick wall.

I used thunderbolts to mount a commercially available pull-up bar to the outside of my house into brick. It was great for 6 months, then the top bolt became loose on both sides as the brick started to crack. House is only 10 years old. Thinking about removing all the thunderbolts and replacing with sleeve anchors. Really frustrating as thunderbolts are so simple to use. Won’t be using them again outside of concrete block tho.
