It’s always nice to be able to help our neighbors, especially during this time of year. 😊

Thanks! It worked really well for the first 6-8” to create a nice base for plowing or snowblowing. 👍

Something you might consider is a couple used grader blades just exposed very slightly under the skids. Might clean really good.

Someone else suggested that too, I need to look into it. Thanks for the comment!

That is some FUN thing to do!!!!!!!! A metal plate on the bottom of the wood would make it last longer, for sure!

It was a blast!! I’m working on something that’ll work along the bottom edge. We’ll see what I can come up with 😊

I'm a welder and wanted to make a proper plow for my truck this year, but didn't have the time. I ended up buying a scrap chunk of wide flange beam from work and put different attachment points on it to angle it, worked well for grading the driveway... but so far haven't had enough snow this year to try it out.

Jason, Good job on making the plow for your road...when I was younger, my grandfather had a pair of Percherons, Bill & Bob, that he used for just such a job in the winter. He had two big pine logs and two chunks of telephone poles , pine logs were the sides and the tele poles were the front and back...big square with tires in the center all chained together...the team loved pulling anything so they were always ready for some snowey road work from the house driveway up to the cow and hay barn and down the road to the sugarhouse...they always enjoyed the apples and the grain treats I brought out to their stalls...such gentle giants...we have no snow yet down here in South Maine...Cheers👍🍪🥛

Now that sounds like it would have been fun to plow with. I can only imagine those memories… thanks for sharing 😊 no more snow here, 50s and rain the next couple days. Been a crazy December

OMiGawd this is genious!! 😮 I wish we had snow for Christmas and so I can drive my Jeep truck in it too! I’d love to drive this road with or without a plow! Fun fun.

Thanks! Wish we had snow too! All ours melted with this storm we just had. High winds, rain and temps in the 50’s. Tomorrow we get to see what damage the winds did!! 🙄

I used to pull 2 big tractor tires behind my suv but now I have a front end loader.

I’ve seen the tire gig, they work for sure but I’m sure that front end loader does a much better job 😊 Appreciate the comment!

As I was watching I was wondering if you could affix some old skis to the bottom or something to protect the wood. Glad to see you were thinking about the subject too.

We are trying to think of a solution to that. Thanks for the comment!👍

Seems like the chains should connect further out to reduce rotation. And also it looks like it should be a bit less wide to not get caught up or lifted up by the higher road borders
@HanbleceyaRanch
@HanbleceyaRanch 8 месяцев назад
Hi Dirk, we wanted it wide to create a level base across the entire width of the road that i can later run the snowblower on. Our road is unmaintained and rough so creating a nice base is vital. As for the chain length, it’s a relatively large logging chain, it works great and as it should. Thanks for the comment! 😊

Hey! I like it! Hi from northern Alberta, Canada. I live on an acreage and have a long driveway. My driveway goes right onto the main high way and, unfortunately, slopes up at the end of the main driveway. I have to stop before going onto the highway to check for traffic before going onto the highway. I have tried shoveling it by hand but it is harder than it might sound. We can sometimes have eight inches overnight. My question is, how heavy do you think this weights? If I could move it to the end of the driveway by hand, then hook it up to my car and pull away from the highway, towards the house, I'd never have trouble. I always put Nokian studded tires on my vehicles. They are made in Finland. Apparently they are not available in the states, but they are amazing. I have a big honk'n Ford Excursion that I normally use only when I need it. (Yes, it's a pig on gas. I drive it only when I need it and driver a junker sedan the rest of the time. Rolling my eyes at guys who drive $80 000 trucks and use them as their daily driver.) With my studded winter tires, I never get stuck in my FWD sedan, except at the end of my up sloping driveway when I must come to a complete stop even when the snow is deep! If this plow is quite moveable by hand, I think it would work for me. Have you thought of bolting 2x4's onto the front of the plow as "wear plates", so that they are a bit lower than the 3x10's and hold it say, one inch, off the ground? They when the 2x4's wear out, simply unbolt them and replace them? I work in industry. All kinds of industrial equipment has "wear plates". Look at graders as they go down the highway. They all have a wear plate at the bottom of the plow that is regularly replaced.

Hi 👋 Thanks for the comment. The plow is heavy, but I can still pull it along the snow when I have to. That said you could build one that suits your situation. They are quite versatile. I am considering adding some gutters to the bottom edge to act as a glide. Will post an update on our channel if I go that route. Plenty of folks here use studded tires, but we’ve yet had to go that route. We bought snow rated tires for our jeep and have had no issues thus far…. Have a great New Year!! 😊
