This should be standard issue viewing for anyone buying a new home, and for anyone looking to give advice in video format. You're clear, concise, and don't fluff up anything unnecessary, while still keeping a friendly and informal tone and pace. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world.

Yes, any claims are paid to you and mortgage company. You need to call them, send check to them so they can sign off on it.

Geat info, first time buyer here. we purchased 2019, and we stayed loyal with the same insurer co. until the renewal was out of control!! we shopped around and switched to another Co, and it was $950 less than current policy. Its so worth it to shop around.

Hi Michael! Yes! Insurance rates are crazy, esp in Houston where I live because of floods etc. Definitely everyone should shop around each year about 2 mo before your renewal! Mark your calendars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved loved loved this conversation and the simplicity of language used by the interviewee to explain complex home scenarios! Thank you for sharing the knowledge. Being a CA resident has its ups and downs like any other state. Here, insurance companies are fleeing due to the risk of wildfires.

No, we're not losing interest. Quit cutting her off. She is a great guest. I'm in the market after getting a 45% increase in homeowners (and expect a 30% in auto). Called another broker and she thought I was lucky to get a renewal and that she couldn't beat a 45% increase. I think I should start an insurance company - the premium increases are insane.

I live in California. I recently got a non-renewal on my homeowners insurance. Been calling many insurances but they won't take me due to risk of brushfire in my area. Some say I have to get two policies. One with California fair plan just for fire coverage....close to 5k and then second policy for $1500 to cover water, liability and theft coverage. Too expensive. Not sure what to do.

Hi! I asked an insurance friend here in Texas had to answer your question and here’s what she said…. She’s not 100% sure about California, but that the best thing to do is to try several independent agents. She said that since brushfire insurance, there is equivalent to us here in Texas having to have wind coverage --which other words --it’s pretty much mandatory then it is a high possibility that you can only qualify for this as a separate policy and not mixed together with your regular homeowners. I hope that this helps you understand, but I would get some names from friends and family of different agents there in the California area.

It pays to shop around & compare . One thing I want to point out is you don’t want to be under insured or over insured. Way back in 1974 when the super out break of. Tornados on April (3) of that yr some where under insured especially those in Xenia Ohio I don’t live far from there . Xenia was really destroyed by F 5 . Also be careful about filling too many clams. Having a home security system is a plus . & be sure to ask about discounts if you insure vehicle ,s with the same company they should give you a discount.

You are correct! That is why having an expert on your side, walking you through it is so worth it. It doesn't cost anything to get an agent's help, and in the long run can save you not only heartache but thousands! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

I had a toilet overflow and went down it went all the way down the hallway into the bedrooms at the end of the hallway and I cleaned it up the best I could and I tried to plunge the toilet but I couldn't get it to plunge so somebody on a website came and helped me plunge it so they said I can't they can't pass the claim because I had somebody come and help me plug the toilet on my no that's not right because it wasn't a license plumber or anything it wasn't a professional you know what do you think? Also my washer went downstairs it started smoking and it overflowed into my bedroom all over my new lamin air wood flooring and I have a lot of bunch of stuff in that room that got water and mold on it now and you know I just got a new washer it broke like a month ago but I didn't have the money to get a washer right away actually I really wasn't planning on it so. I have a medical disease is why I have to make sure my washer is running cuz I got to keep everything sanitized they're going to keep washing my sheets and blankets and towels

Hi Bonnie! Sorry that happened to you! I’m not an insurance specialist. I’ll ask the question to someone who might know and comment back
@LoanWithJen
@LoanWithJen 5 месяцев назад
Ok I emailed an insurance broker I know. This is her response your assigned, licensed adjuster, will need to provide you a copy of your policy, when denying your claim. And they should outline or reference what paragraph confirms his decision. Now, if you feel like your issue is not matching the issue he’s referencing, then there can be further discussion. What I’m thinking, in this case, is that he’s saying this is a case of poor workmanship, and that the water damage is because of the work the handyman did. Unless she can prove that the water damage was there first (like dated photos, or a work order or recorded call into the handyman where she says “I have water everywhere and need help resolving…” Technically, the order should be (1) assess/photos of damage, (2) call in claim, (3) wait for adjuster visit and permission to proceed with repairs. That adjuster should be able to come see the home in the damaged state, to confirm exactly what caused the damage. Now, obviously, there’s often some clean-up that has to occur, or even cutting out of soaked materials, but it should be minimal, and all materials should be kept in a bag, onsite, should the adjuster want to review it.
@bonniej0
@bonniej0 5 месяцев назад
@@LoanWithJen yeah well if there's mold there that means it happened a while ago which it happens like a month or two ago and we cleaned it up but the guy that was staying in that room did not clean. And that's why there's mold damage. I guess it has to happen right away and then you call the adjuster well I can't let mole just sit there until they decide to come up and they said they weren't going to cover it because I couldn't tell him the guy's name that helped me plunge the toilet. It still wasn't working correctly anyway and he wasn't a licensed plumber

Great advice. I personally found out about the "roof" age and insurers. Travelers gave me a great price combining both home and auto, until they looked at the age of the roof. It's 18 years old, but 30 year architectural shingles. They will not insure a home now if the roof is older than 15 years period. This is for new customers. I was shocked. 😑

Thanks for your feedback. I did not intend to have viewers feel that way. Maybe watch again and bullet point what to ask an agent? I would get referrals to homeowners ins agents in your state. Ask friends or neighbors, and then use some of the tips in this video to know what questions to ask. Thanks for watching.

It certainly sounds like it is the easiest thing to do. I'd much rather have someone else figure it all out. I hate dealing with figuring out insurance every year.

What is my recourse when they simply drop you after 20+ years. We had $51,000 hail damage claim, a water freezing damage claim of $11,000 and a small $2500 claim....all in the last 4 yrs!!!
@LoanWithJen
@LoanWithJen Месяц назад
I believe it is their right to do that. My prior car insurance dropped me, for claims. I was so upset. But do get new insurance asap…. You do NOT want the mortgage company to force a policy. That will be more expensive for sure. Do this asap

I would shop with all the national carriers. That is what I did recently too. Each carrier has different rates in different cities. But Progressive, Geico, State Farm, Allstate Those are alot I see. I would talk to a broker in your area that can shop many different carriers.
