🤔Who borrows $15,000 to pay a hospital bill? I worked in Patient Access (i.e. taking the money) for 4yrs. In most hospitals, there is a program called Financial Assistance, which he Probably qualified for. My heart goes out to the young lady. She’s learned a very expensive lesson. This story makes me mad. And, makes me wonder if all that money went to the hospital🤦‍♀️
@southerngardengigi

@@lsmith6718 I believe he just stole that money. I’m sure the hospital billing talked to the family representative about her grandpa’s bill and then directed them to help for low income patients. Yeah that happened to me also when I was also 21 years old and living at home....with my father borrowing money from me for the mortgage, and I was living at home and going to school (California is expensive). He bullied me into saying "Well you want to live here don't YOU!" "You have to take care of family!" (He said the same thing). I was being bullied and let him borrow it. I was able to drive my mom's car during the summer while I was waiting on buying a car....I never got that cash back... BUT eventually I forced him to co-sign for a car bought at the end of the summer (I had no credit at the time). It was quickly when I learned that my childhood image of my father was NOT the same as an adult. He is not great at honoring his word with finances. He is an impulsive person. Ever since then I kept EVERTHING separate... no joint car insurance, no joint phone bills... nothing.

Was he borrowing your money, or was you paying rent? If it's the latter, I see nothing wrong with that. Teen and adult children need to make some sort of financial contribution to the household if they're still living at home, it prepares them for real life. I did so without even being asked when I came of age. Children who earn an income and still live at home but don't make contributions to the household (whether the parents make them or not) seem to become lazy, spoilt and self entitled.

You know what happens if you can't pay a medical bill? Talk to the hospital, not a 21 year old. What a scummy uncle. My wife had a 2 week hospital stay and a c-section last year and it cost 5k. We're in baby step 2, but eliminated all our saved money for the baby due to serious complications (leading to over 100 day NICU stay). A hospital will work with you, usually with a very low minimum payment and 0% interest. This sounds like the uncle wanted to scam her.

1 was able to scale from 0 to 90 units and creative financing was a big way to scale fast. With it becoming a buyers market and people still wanting seller market home prices, creative financing is the win-win situation. Your price, but my terms. If you can master off market lead generation and creative financing, you can scale big in 2023. I still work a W2 as I stabilize my 90 unit portfolio.

Mothers do it all the time. My mother did it with 3 elementary school kids under her belt. It wasn't fun or easy, but she did it and was able to significantly increase her paycheck with her new and improved skills/degree after 4 years of grinding it out. You can definitely make some adjustments in your schedule and get it done. It will be painful, but it's not impossible.

How to determine if you are house poor when two of the four streams of income are self employed and edds and flows? We had started FPU again. The first time, We were winning and debt free and was paying off house and last car until our income stopped for two years and we went through emergency funds in six months, lost the car and house and started renting. Now with income again, we are now in a house again. But need direction about getting out of the debt we accumulated while out of work.

Kathy, this is deja vu for me. I'm an elderly person but when I was extremely young, I married into a dysfunctional family. I was so naive and so easily intimidated. My husband was the same. He loaned our savings plus my college savings to a sister "in a jam". eed. I was trying to be a good Christian wife and went along with what he said. I have learned since that's not what Jesus intends for a Christian wife to go along with insane ways. Anyway, we never got the money back. Surprise surprise!! I was 17 years old I had worked very hard for my college money just like you. Needless to say I worked two jobs and went to college for a few years before dropping out. I so wish that I could have finished up and got my degree. I'm so thankful I'm out of that dysfunctional family. And I'm sorry that this happened to you Kathy. You are very sweet and you sound like you are easily intimidated and that's why you were the target. Just like we were at a young tender age. Never tell your family how much money you make, never tell your family if you have any money. It is no one's business. Never go into business with family either. I wish you the best dear. And I hope by some miracle that your scum uncle really will come through for you like a real man would.

The college kid should not have let her finances be known. If the uncle is in his 40s, the dad probably on medicare...the uncle did not use the full 15k on hospital. She should go to his dad's family and inquire.She should also email or text every communication so he will admit in writing....maybe ask him if he can make payments, and his response may confirm the loan...Be very nice so as not to put him on defensive...
