Like anyone, I don't enjoy seeing the cost of things go up, but I'm sorry this seems like a first-world problem to me. If you're still able to call yourself a homeowner in this economy and housing market you aren't doing too bad. Pay the rates or become a renter and be at a landlord's mercy for everything!

After all the rain damage, I'm sure the people who have Citizens who were complaining about having to get mandatory flood insurance are glad they have it. Ppl in Florida are going to have to accept climate change as real. The state government needs to do something.
What are you expecting the state government to do when you have the risk of needing your home repaired or replaced every couple of years? So tax payers outside of Florida should fund your luxury ?
If you owe $50,000 on $250,000 house, the mortgage requires full replacement insurance. Whose values dose that serve? Who decided that? I want to insure for what I owe. I can save the rest for a new roof.
Your mortgage requires replacement cost and the state makes it a requirement that insurance companies insure you for replacement cost. You can buy a DP1 or DF1 for ACV, but fat chance the lender lets you do that.
@@ormondbeachr1 At some point a signature loan for the $50k in my example might make financial sense. Calculated agenst the cost of continously increasing mortgage costs (the insurance requirement), it may become logical or necessary.

I would laugh all the way to the bank with 14% hike. I am in McAllen, Texas, where it's hurricane proof and tornado proof, yet my insurance premium jumped 28%.
