Thank you so much for saying the school planning is not efficient. So often I feel like I'm taking too long to plan certain subjects. It's a good reminder to give ourselves some grace and know it's a process that does not have to run efficiently all of the time. Again, thank you! ❤

It's so easy to fall into that! It's good work and so worth it!

Thank you for sharing! I love how you frame it as thinking about your kids and Christmas gifts in terms of what they need and are interested in. This makes so much sense!

I am in the middle of that right now. I struggle with the morning basket. Maybe you have some suggestions for me. I have scripture reading, poetry, geography, hymn, folk song, picture study, composer, Spanish, nature lore and a few extra books on random topics all in my book basket on a loop. We do 2-3 subjects per day. The trouble is my 9 and 7 year old are saying morning time is too long. It takes us an hour some days. And I know, they are getting fatigued by the time we hit the core stuff. We have a lot of interruptions with younger tots as well as a lot of goofing around. 😏 How can I keep their focus and get it all in? Suggestions would be awesome.

Hey Naomi! I had the same problem!!! I did a loop for the first few years but I had to switch to assigning days of the week to specific subjects. This allowed me to be more prepared and that allowed us to move through things more quickly. The second thing I did was to split out morning time into two sessions. That looks sort of like this: Independent work Morning time (30 min) Independent work Morning time (30 min) Lunch This is super simplified but that’s where we start! My first session for MT is usually where I do our recitation and a more hands-on mom-needs-to-have-lots-of-patience mind set. Art or Geography and map work or History would go here. The second Morning time session can include some of the beauty- folk dancing or singing games to start us bc it’s later in the morning and often our reading and notebook work (book of centuries, narration, picture study notebook work or poetry notebook work)- gotta have busy hands while mama is reading! This is helped all of us stay more focused when we break it up. I set a timer or use my watch and just stop at 30 minutes. This keeps us fresh! If kids LoVe what we are doing I say- “great! You can pick it up again this afternoon!” But I know I can’t rob Peter to Pay Paul.

I’m planning a video to go into more depth on this. Is there anything else you’d like me to include that would help you?

@@joycherrick thank you for asking! For next year, I have been thinking that my littles should be getting some more Mom time (connecting and loving on them) and how I can make sure they are also getting some “school” in the form of a book basket with special books and things for them. (30 min?) ages 3 and 5. In the morning, if my older boys go outside or leave the room for even a minute, school is completely forgotten. So how do I keep them busy with school things, independent work, while I’m sitting and focusing on my smaller 2? I’ve been thinking about a daily schedule for this. How have you kept a balanced schedule/routine with multiple kiddos? And Keeping them focused on the day? I am needed for a lot of the subjects right now, it seems like I need to be everywhere at once. They do a lot of waiting for Mom sometimes before we can get to the next thing. It’s hard for me to see how it can all fit in, have smooth transitions and not take all day. But I know that it can.
