pro tip: if they have a physics option for science, have her do that. that’s often the hardest part of a veterinary/nursing curriculum in college and it would be awesome for her to get a head start

Honestly if you let her learn French Spanish will be so much easier because they are similar. This is coming from a Canadian who learned French all through school but learned Spanish from their daughters Mexican dad. Barely remember my French but it made learning Spanish infinitely easier :) even if she does Spanish in school she can have duolingo or youtube French lessons :)

As someone who speaks Spanish, English, German, French and Dutch, I support this message. My native tongue is Spanish, started with English when I was 3, with German when I was 8. My English level was pretty high so I took 2 years of French in high school and the Spanish was a good base since they are very similar. Now I'm doing Dutch which is a combination of English and German and it's not as difficult as it would be for someone without those basics, still hard as hell though because of the phonics, Spanish is in the from of the mouth while dutch is a lot in the throat. If she can do French, Spanish will be way easier :)

I agree with this. I was close to fluent in French and it has made it so much easier to learn Spanish.

I think it is great that you are doing world geography. So often the US only focuses on internal history that it creates a bit of cultural insensitivity or ignorance that people from other countries pick up on. There are so many wonderful countries in the world to learn about each with their own sets of strengths and weaknesses
@melindamercier6811
@melindamercier6811 3 года назад
I’m always so surprised when I read a comment like this. I had a full year of world geography in 7th grade, and a full year of world history in high school. I didn’t go to a particularly prestigious school either lol, it was in the underdeveloped sticks of Orlando. So it’s shocking to me to hear schools aren’t all teaching these subjects.
@savannahvick5266
@savannahvick5266 3 года назад
A huge part of that is high schools that let you choose what classes you want to do. My school let us choose between world and US history and most people chose US history Bc it was easier. It’s the same thing at my college.

@@melindamercier6811 teacher from UK one full year of other world history geography is small. In UK we do more world than Uk history and geography.
@EmilyReviews
@EmilyReviews 3 года назад
@@sarahjackson9153 Exactly. We had two years of world history, one in middle school and one in HS but I still feel like I was taught very little about the history of the rest of the world. A year or two just isn't enough to teach you about the histories of all the other countries. Our world history class focused on major wars - ww1 and 2, the cold war. From what I recall it was basically covering those wars with discussions of the perspective of different sides or different countries involved in each. Not bad stuff to learn, but that doesn't really give you any understanding or appreciation for other cultures which is what I think we ideally could learn from history classes. I don't recall learning anything about the history or culture of any south American countries, African countries or Australia, for example.
@korieraley1256
@korieraley1256 3 года назад
Actually I think most high schools require at least a year of world history. It’s not that kids don’t learn it. I think those subjects get more interesting as adults.

I am so excited about starting the Good and Beautiful Curriculum with my special needs daughter. We have been using on-line curriculum for 2 years but I have felt her go from excited about learning to bored and not wanting to do school. I think it is time to get off the computer for hands on learning. I also really like the reading program they have and have bought her level books. I am really hoping it will spark her interest in reading and give us more things to have conversations about. She struggles with back and forth communication. Thanks for introducing that curriculum!

Yes to French! I signed up for Spanish in high school, but got put into French. I ended up taking all 4 years plus going on to major in French and Foreign Language Ed in college. High school is a great place to choose a language you are interested in and get a foundation. Of course we learn best when we are intrinsically motivated! French (and any Latin-based language) will help tremendously with Vet Studies later on in regards to biological names of animals. Most biological names stem from Latin, which learning French will help so much with since there is a lot of cross over.

I'm looking forward to our new adventure. We joined a homeschool co-op. A co-op is where the parents are the teachers and you only pay for supplies. I am teaching an art class, but my son will be in the Kindergarten class and my daughter in the Preschool class. I am so excited because it's only 1 day per week, but it's something new and fun that encourages learning. It also helps to force me to get out of the house and socialize weekly.

I don’t think you mentioned in the video, but it is important to note that if you do all the stuff that comes with the curriculum & lit pack, it is equal to 3 credits. 1 English, 1 social studies, 1 Bible. It is a LOT of reading.

In Florida, starting in 6th grade you can start duel enrollment and start interest based learning. In Florida, you are not required to take any language either. You can unschool all of highschool and still get a diploma. There are no specific classes required and colleges are becoming very accommodating to these alternative diplomas, some without sat/act. You can also start working on certifications that Florida allows for free or any college classes that are available for free as well. Veterinary assistant is actually a trade and certification you can get prior to finishing high school in Florida.... Internships are even available through the program.

Just out of curiousity, how do you teach foreign languages? I have always loved foreign languages. I'm Scandinavian, and I was taught Swedish since the first grade (ofc), and in the fourth grade we started learning English. In the second grade we had to pick a third language, I choose German. In the eight grade we had the option to pick a fourth language (unfortunately not enough student signed up for this, so that class was cancelled). At around 16 years old we start what's called "Gymnasiet" here in Sweden. I choose French as my fourth language. My comment got long :)

My two oldest are in public school and we believe that is what's best for them, so I'm excited to see where the year takes them, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to homeschool them. My youngest, however, is preschool age and loves to learn. I have been having the calling to homeschool him and am trying to research my options for that so I can be prepared when the time comes if I get my husband on board. I'm taking the next two years before he starts kindergarten to do some light "homeschooling" with him to test the waters with something a bit more structured and intentional with him.

What I’m looking forward to most this school year is including my 4 year old (soon to be 5) in our homeschooling with my 3 other kids! (I have 5 kids altogether,!) Thank you for sharing this as my oldest will be in 9th grade soon!!! 😁

I am looking forward to the year with my six year old. Honestly just getting to watch her learn and see the lightbulb go off when she understands it is my favorite part. 📚📝🖍❤️

Are you planning on showing us more of the daily homeschool life this year? Not that I don't like the farm life, but I really miss homeschool videos! And high school level looks so exciting!

The homeschool questions crack me up 🤣 My husband and his brother were both homeschooled all the way through high school and were actually able to take college courses ahead of time through the community college so ny hubs entered his freshman year as a sophomore. They loved being homeschooled and played tons of sports so had lots of socialization 😊 we’re sending our first son off to kindergarten in a few weeks and opted for private Christian school but could definitely see homeschooling as an option too!

I’m looking forward to actually enjoying the year. Last year was our first year of home educating and it was a struggle for the first half of the year to figure out our flow and how to get in the groove.

I really love that you’re choosing to homeschool high school!! More people need to do this. Coming from someone who went to traditional high school looking back I feel homeschooling would have been a better fit not just for me but for a lot of people I know. Save them from the shame and hazing!

I watch these videos even though homeschooling is illegal in my country (Germany), but I just think it´s great to be able to do that and it´s great how many choices you have with what she wants to learn!

I agree that there are very few homeschooling high school you tubers to follow. Ive been homeschooling 26 years and have graduated 4 of my 6. Curriculum choices certainly are out there to make it a difficult choice on what to pick for your student not on how to home school high-school.We love Shormann and my engineering aimed son got a 30 on his math ACT. He says Shormann really prepared him. He’s taking Calculus this fall in his senior year with Shormann and my freshman daughter is taking Algebra 1. I so wanna do the science as well for my daughter.

I'm definitely looking forward to a more normal year for us. Our schedule went out the window when I took on babysitting my nephews and niece. Their parents were all in a pinch because of CV-19, but now that things are getting back to normal they won't need me anymore. Thankfully my DD is only in 1st grade, so it should be relatively easy to play catch up this coming year.

My oldest is going to be 5 this fall. So we are technically starting preschool wo I'm excited for adding some structure and routine and more learning type things. Having a specific goal each day helps my days be more productive which I'm looking forward too.
