Even though I turn 70 this year I love watching you 'young uns' living the life you do. I truly admire you all. I was born and raised in the Appalachians- just north of Asheville in the tiny town of Weaverville. Life then was much as you are living now. When things started growing too much and the old ways began disappearing, I retired to a tiny town in the southern part of West Virginia to be able to live the way I was raised. And just for the record, being Appalachian is something deep inside oneself, not a matter of geography. Not many people can grasp this anymore, so I thank God for people like you all who keep the good old ways alive and well! May 2024 bring you and yours many blessings and prosperity!

I’m old enough to be their mama but I enjoy the young en’s also. Lol I wished I would have gleaned more from my grandparents. These ways were how they made it. My mom said that our granny made their dresses from flour sacks and she used the sears catalogs to make dress patterns. No that’s getting resourceful! I pray it doesn’t get that bad again, but God will provide. ❤️

I am an 85 year old man, living alone with my dog, 5 milk goats and 4 chickens. Because of my age and health, I have had to alter my homestead type lifestyle and reduce my number of animals. I sold, my Jersey milk cow and calf, about 20 of my meat and milk goats and most of my chickens. Also had to give up my big in ground garden and now am gardening in containers right at my back door. Luckily I am in NW FL where I can garden year round and have a beautiful garden right now. I still pressure can and have several hundred jars of garden produce in my pantry right now. Have no plans to give that up!

The way you are passing on the knowledge of generations to Jacob and Maggie just swells my heart. Thoughts: 1. I believe God wants you reaching folks. 2. Yall are our kids age and we are so impressed with your way of life and work ethic. 3. People used to work intermittently away from home so they could afford necessities, but not 40 hour weeks. I applaud your goal. 4. My goal is to have a low spend year in order to save money and use up so much of the stuff around here. (Less clutter!) 5. Your kids will be blessed by your lifestyle.

YOU FOLKS AMAZE ME WITH THE THINGS YOU DO. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN HOMESTEADING FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT , EVEN THE TOMATO CANNING AND HOG BUTCHERING. IN THE FALL AFTER HOG PROCESSING IT DOESNT SLOW DOWN EITHER. HUNTING SEASON COMES ON AND I'M HUNTING DAY AND NIGHT TO PUT MORE FOOD IN OUR FREEZERS AND SHELVES. IT'S A TON OF WORK BUT GIVES US PEACE OF MIND. I'M CURRENTLY 72 YEARS OLD AND I FEEL LIKE IM SLOWING DOWN A LITTLE BUT STILL HARD AT IT. WE LIVE ON 12 ACRES AND HAVE CHICKENS AND TURKEYS AND RAISE PIGS EVERY YEAR. PROCESSING MEAT IS MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR.WE PROCESS ALL OUR OWN CHICKENS AND HOGS/TURKEYS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND ABOVE ALL ENJOY YOURSELVES. IT GOES FAST. GOD BLESS !

What I want to see for 2024: A cost breakdown on what it costs you to grow your food. How much you spend on feed for pigs and how many lbs you get at harvest. We live a similar way, but grow different things than you do. So I’m curious how much it costs to grow your veggies and animals. I saw you gave your pigs a corncob a day. But is that all the grain they get? Same for your cows and chickens.

I found you through gardening. Now, I was raised in the Northeast, city girl. Far from your up brining. My husband and I had a major shake up in our life in 2012. This is when we moved to a rural area and started gardening for our mental health. Long story short. I value your old ways, hard work and how you try not to be wasteful, I love watching you all work together as a family and seeing your children listening, learning and doing. You say you are just normal people, I think you are getting followers like myself because, we need more "normal" people these days. This is going on too long, so I'll just say I appreciate all your time you put into your videos and thanks for all the tips and tricks you provide for us who want to learn.

Keep pressing on. I just turned 72 and grew up on a working family farm. That is how my parents lived and raised 5 children. While my husband and I had factory jobs, we still farmed some and raised a garden. Now being a widow, I still have chickens, raise a garden and preserve my own food. It does bless me to see young folks such as you taking an interest in being self sufficient. I am a part of the Appalachians also. I live outside a small town in Southwest VA, just across the Tennessee state line. So likely not more that 2-3 hours away from you all. The farm live is a good life. I no longer watch TV much at all. RU-vid gardeners and farm homesteaders have become my entertainment. I can select the content that I enjoy, good clean wholesome viewing. Have a prosperous and wonderful 2024.

Grumpy Old Man (my husband) and I live in central Alabama and have our entire lives. There's a lot of similarities between Appalachian ways and plain ole southern country ways. I was actually born and raised in the city (Birmingham) but moved to 'the country' many years ago. I get anxiety now when I have to go to the city. I can't wait to get back home. I really enjoy your videos. Y'all are real. I prefer videos that show real life...not the perfect ones that seem staged. I like the fact that Meagan swings the camera around to show what the kitchen really looks like when she's in the middle of canning, fixing some lunch for the kids, etc. Or that Maggie is in the other room crying because she popped her balloon. That's real life.

I for one am probably what you would consider the old folks and I can tell you there is hope in the younger folks. Several of my younger sons friends are learning many of the older ways and crave the importance of family and community. You know you don't always have to teach people things to explain your culture. Simple walks through the fields and woods, showing them simple pleasures, explains why you chose to live as you do and why the traditions are so important to you both.

I found your channel by looking for country people around my area. I was raised in Hickory Tree and now live in the Bays Mountain area. I enjoy every video. Things I like to see are: Meghan cooking, canning, homemaking, Andy planning the crops, working with the many pieces of equipment, sawmill work, how you choose the tree and how you use the wood. The children anything they do playing and learning to do different things. It's all good. Looking forward to this next year.

I know exactly what you're talking about when saying it's hard to find good employees. My husband is retired now, but he did have his own home renovation business for almost 35 yrs. That was the main thing he struggled with,,,trying to find young men that actually wanted to put a good days work in. Also hard to find men that can be trusted to be left in a customers home while my husband was gone picking up supplies etc. If you can have one more day at home, do it. Specially while your kiddies are still at home. LOVE your channel and always look forward to your video's. Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2024!

Good morning. I feel compelled to tell you two how impressed I am with you, your honesty and sincerity. Your ability to maintain your family, jobs and productivity on your family farm is inspiring . I live on Long Island, New York. I plant 4 tomatoes every year. I first heard about you from Tipper Presley , Celebrating Appalachia. I have been following them for about 2 years. Tipper recommended your channel. I was very pleasantly surprised at your honesty and stamina, your ability to tell things the way they are in a charming, and down to earth way. Keep up the fantastic work. Thank you, Jane

First of all, you guys are killing it. I grew up on ranch in a small town in the hill country of Texas. Today I run a social media company and get to observe a lot of creators - you've figured it out. Keep up the good work! My ask for you - take care of yourself and your family - that's a great 2024 goal. Life isn't a dress rehearsal. Love your channel.

I cut back, too, this year. I was working (always shorthanded) in a metro hospital, commuting, caregiving for my Dad, burning the candle at both ends. I gave notice last summer, took a few months off, started in long-term care in October many fewer shifts in my FTE. Now we are moving my Dad into an assisted living. Took care of selling his house and getting his belongings ready for auction. Looking forward to having time to get my family healthier. Looking forward to much more gardening, canning, and especially quilting. Also needing to work on remodeling our 115 year old house. Thank you two for also making the effort to get back to basics.
