Everyone says the soil in Missouri stinks because it's full of rocks. Legend says that the people of MO are rock farmers. While we can relate, we also want to put that idea to the test.
98% of our property is forest. There are plants & trees growing EVERYWHERE! So the soil can't be THAT bad...
We're going to experiment with all kinds of gardening techniques, using the materials we have right here on our homestead. BECAuse to be quite frank, we are gardening on a budget over here.
We like to call this "The Cheap & Dirty Method" because well... It is! ;)
In this film we are testing lasagna gardening. Using natural materials from our forest, old food from the fridge, and some sifted soil from the big mounds on our property this garden should turn out pretty great.
Thanks for choosing to hang out with us! We appreciate all of your great feedback in the comments. We are learning the ropes here on the Dirty Ol' Homestead, so your input means the world to us.
May your preps BE abundant, and wishing you so much love in your life!

Aww @Steve Haile! Thanks man! We are going full throttle right now. There has never been a more important time to grow food, and become as self reliant as possible. Being prepared for what is likely to come is at the top of our priority list. If what’s forecasted never happens, we have at minimum created abundance, and we can sit back and enjoy… hope you are getting your preps in line as well. - Erin + Brian

This lasagna idea looks brilliant. So cool to see your forest land come to life with color and thickness. Kind of romantic planting in the moonlight 😁 You two are a continuing source of inspiration. Sending Best Wishes and Blessings, James and Kim ❤️

We didn't invent the term "Lasagna Gardening" but have heard the term from a ton of homesteaders and it makes sense! The forest is definitely getting thick and we love it! Wait to see the update on the veggies in this plot! They are growing great! Thanks for watching James + Kim! - B+E

I know of a guy who feeds his worm beds cardboard. It's amazing how fast they break it down. You can actually hear them working away.

You'll want to stay tuned because in the near future, we'll be starting our own worm farm and will be using cardboard as one of the mediums! Thanks for watching! - Brian + Erin

Haha @Julie's little patch of dirt... You are right... we have had moments where we curse the rocks, but they are certainly a wonderful resource to have at our fingertips! We will use them for everything! Happy gardening!

Oh a tip I find useful to keep cardboard in place is to simply giving the cardboard a little time in a bucket of water. 🙂

Keep those bigger rocks and line you gardens with them ! use your pee to soak the rocks ! Will help to keep the deer out other kritters out < serious, this is something we have done and seems to help

@BEAdventurePartners
@BEAdventurePartners 2 года назад
Hey there @Steven Annett! We're saving the bigger rocks to make low walls around structures. Good idea about marking our property with pisss! LOL! We do use the gray water, which includes the urine diversion, for charging Biochar. Also, we put our hair after haircuts around the base of the garden to help keep animals away... We've seen rabbits in our clearing but ZERO rabbits have entered the garden areas. We'll talk about that in a future video fo sho! Thanks for watching! - B+E
