Are you willing to share where you buy the wool clothing? I think that is a part of this whole process that us new comers don't think about. Having the right clothing makes many cold weather things more enjoyable.

no-poo: The thing about hair washing is that different people have different levels of oil. Someone with dry hair, water might be enough. Someone with oily skin, will need something to strip some built up oil from the hair. 20:18 First thing about homestead property is how will you supply financial needs while living there? That dictates where you can look.

I absolutely LOVE your videos!!! 😁❤ You are amazing! I use the "no-poo'' method with the garbonzo bean flour every couple of weeks or so. I am trying to push it back to once every 3 weeks but it takes time to adjust. If anyone is interested or needs a reference, look up "fairyland cottage no-poo" here on youtube.. she posts 3, 6 and 9 month updates. As well as a year. I absolutely love this method of cleaning hair. No muss, no fuss. Just make a paste of garbanzo bean flour and water and rub it on your scalp. It may take a few minutes to wash but it helps your hair grow quicker and even thickens your hair. I put organic coconut oil at the ends whenever i need to but stay away from the scalp unless i am doing an overnight oil treatment. Thank you for the sharing! Always love hearing the updates!!

Dear Carolyn and Josh: I’ve been watching you guys for a few months now and I love the contribution you’re making in the world in promoting homesteading and self-reliance. No matter where we live, I believe we can all learn tips, tricks, and techniques to help us achieve the homesteading dream, and as you’ve said in a few past videos, we can all start where we are. I’ve generally loved the topics you discuss and the demonstrations you freely share to help us all on our journey of food independence and self-reliance. Thank you for that! That said, I want to bring to your attention one point you made during this video when you were discussing the no-poo method that you’ve embarked on as a way of reducing the amount of shampoo you’ve been using on your hair. You used the term “KNAPPY” to describe how curly or unmanageable your roots are becoming because of your infrequent washings since you’re now using chick pea flour. Your husband’s response was very negative when you used the word KNAPPY to describe the change in texture/consistency of your hair. At 3:25 in the video, he says, “DON’T WANT THE KNAP!” First of all, you are Caucasian with straight hair, and at best, wavy hair. You DO NOT have KNAPPY or wooly hair! I’m really sick and tired of people using this word in ignorance and perpetuating the myth that so-called KNAPPY hair is bad. KNAPPY refers to the WOOLY textured hair of people of African descent. We are the only people on this planet that produce this wooly texture of hair. IT IS NOT BAD! IT IS NOT ABBERANT! IT IS NOT STINKY, DIRTY, NASTY, UNATTRACTIVE, UGLY, or SCRUBBY as the Urban Dictionary defines it. IT IS GOD-GIVEN. IT IS NATURAL! IT IS BEAUTIFUL! IT IS GOOD! It is the texture that The Most High God gave us, so please stop putting it down and referring to it as something bad or not good enough. As a matter of fact, “wool” is used to describe the hair of the one you call Jesus (Revelation1:14). Our hair has been legislated against time and time again in these United States, banned from public viewing, banned in the workplace, and banned everywhere. We have had to tie it up, cover it up, press it out, use all sorts of chemicals to straighten it because the general Caucasian population (other nations too) have a great disdain for the natural texture of our hair. It grows naturally curly out of our scalps!!! As humans we seem to be able to appreciate the differences in nature (animals, flowers, sea creatures), but when it comes to people, somehow people of African descent are seen as less than, inferior, not good enough, one-fifth or a person?! This is 2019 and we still have to fight in the courts to wear our hair in its natural form www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/10/14/black-hair-laws-passed-stop-natural-hair-discrimination-across-us/3850402002/. This is what Creator gave us and HE said it is good, so why the legislation against what is good. People are offended by our hair. Why? Carolyn, you are a teacher so I think you’ll appreciate this teaching moment. This is just ONE article out of thousands on the topic www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2019/08/09/412886884/the-racial-roots-behind-the-term-nappy. In addition, this video presentation by Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary, Professor at Oregon State University, is a must watch. She presents her research on Posttraumatic Slave Syndrome ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BGjSday7f_8.html. It is my opinion that every American needs to see this. If you really want to know what’s really going on with the so-called black people in this country, watch this documentary. The so-called blacks are really the Children of Israel, suffering the curses from Deuteronomy 28-31, mostly from the Tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi. Don’t believe me? Watch this preview to the VERY WELL-RESEARCHED documentary called Hebrews to Negroes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4kvKH7e5TaY.html. More resources can be found here thenegronetwork.com/. Now that you know... Look, I don’t hate you. I have appreciated and been blessed by the great information you have shared and have been sharing and I commend you for putting out great information in the world. Humanity is better off for it. What I greatly dislike is ignorance in all of its forms. You’ve spoken without wisdom on a topic you obviously know NOTHING about. Most people think African-textured hair cannot grow, which is a great fallacy. It is the most fragile of all hair textures and it grows, and because it is naturally drier than most other hair textures, it breaks frequently. This is why women of African descent have to put A LOT OF STUFF in their hair to keep it moisturized. Because it is the driest of all hair types, this is PART OF the reason African-textured hair breaks and gives the appearance of not growing. This is also part of the reason for the “fancy” protective hair styles. I could go on and on, but I think you get my point. I’m sorry for this long dissertation, but I had to “get this off my chest.”

The no poo method didn't work for me, three years later the breakage and damage is still trying to grow out. I don't know if my thick hair will ever come back. It may work for some, but it didn't for my hair and I regret trying it.😩
@deltas4114
@deltas4114 4 года назад
I tried Baking soda, and organic apple cider vinegar....and did it 4-5 times a month. No commercial shampoos. I had noticed my thick hair was starting to look thinner, eek! So I read about this method and it has helped my hair thickness and the look and feel. I am 60, so I am so glad to hear from others, "Wow, your hair looks so healthy", one man I went out with asked me, "why is your hair so much prettier than other woman I've seen around your age?". I guess that's when I really noticed it was working. I did also try other no shampoo methods and this is the one that works for me. We as Americans wash our hair way too much, and with such harsh chemicals. It took a month or so after starting to start seeing a difference, you have to keep doing it.....it isn't instant. It is worth the wait. Good luck.

Caroline when you are talking about bugs in your food I almost cringe. You talk about diatomaceous earth that does not always work and you talk about sealing your food grade containers well. How about if the bugs are already in your grains. You talk about freezing for 3 days. How could you freeze all your grains for 3 days. You are forgetting one very important method of storage and that is the use of Dry Ice. For those that do not know, dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. Dry ice sublimes (changes directly from a solid to a gas - there is no liquid state) at -109.3F. Once your container is full of carbon dioxide there is no insect that can live in there at all. In a 5 gallon pail put about 5 cubes of dry ice and then fill with your wheat or rice or what ever you are storing and just PLACE the lid on top (do not seal the container) wait a week for the dry ice cubes to sublime and then seal the container. You will never have a problem with bugs in that container because there is no oxygen in there for anything to live. If there were insect eggs they will immediately die as soon as they hatch. I have 2 x 40 foot containers full of 55 gallon drums of grains stored in this manor. You could open one of these drums in the year 5000 and it would be as perfect as it is today. I am now in the process of filling other containers with other foods in the same manor. There will never be any rust because there is no oxygen for metals to rust. This is the most perfect way to store for veryyyyyyyyyyyy long term storage. If anyone has any questions please ask. God Bless Joe Scott

I think the conversation about factoring in quality when discussing making vs buying a loaf of bread might've missed a major point on both sides. There are so many people that are just barely scraping by and at that point it doesn't matter the nutritional value/quality if homemade bread or whether or not you want to eat the crappy megamart bread- that 10 cents you save buying vs making is 11% of the cost of your next loaf of bread. On the other hand, however, typically I could buy all the ingredients to make a basic white using the cheapest ingredients and it would cost 37 cents a loaf. The long term cost is cheaper, but there could be a barrier to entry when it comes to up front cost. You can even take it a step further- grow your grains, collect wild yeast via sourdough cultures etc. And decrease your cost even more. It just depends on whether or not you have the ability to invest up front that makes the difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have the same issue so first I stopped conditioner and switched to all natural shampoos with no phosphates or sulfates. I did it because my scalp was constantly breaking out. I noticed after a couple of months that my hair wasn't as oily. Now I only have to wash my hair once or twice a week. I'm going to try the baking soda and vinegar combination shortly for the no poo method and see what it does.
