hippie milking is actually better then twice a day, more natural for the animal. Blessings to you all, best wishes for the new year - thx for sharing, love hearing all your ideas during my morning coffee!
One of my favorite things is giving myself permission to take rests like that from some habitual obligations. It's so nice to take your own "vacation" when you can!
Happy Holiday's. Stay safe and warm. I just got order #1 from Baker Creek yesterday. Order #2 will go in in 2 weeks. Then have to get a few thing's from Growers Solutions , need 9 or 10 cattle panels, to finish the greenhouse and the bean tunnel and make covers for all the raised beds, and we're ready for spring. Their saying a wet spring and summer like we had last year or worse. God bless
I would love to hear more of your thoughts and opinions about the following subjects; cheese making, hugelkultur, food forests/permaculture, grey water storage, fruit tree guilds, herbal remedies, herbal/medicinal gardening, essential oil use, and garden planning. I really enjoy the garden and kitchen tours as well.
Regarding the All American pressure canners, a great place to get them with a huge discount is on Craigslist or Facebook's Marketplace. I've seen them for as little as $100 which is a significant discount!!
I would love to see a tour of your orchard and learn more about permaculture and food forest concepts. We want to get started on our own orchard this spring. Merry Christmas!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday and new year with your family.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I am planning on learning to make cheese this coming year. Carolyn, since you make some of your own will you be doing a class on Making Cheese? I love learning from you and it would be great if you do.
I would really love a class on cheese making. I am milking 2 dairy goats and would love to make cheeses. May y’all have a Merry Christmas and a blessed new year :)
Please share your Rumtopf recipe and the cake you make with it. My mom's family used to make Rumtopf every summer then the adults would enjoy it on their vanilla ice cream. My mom did make a cake using it in her last years with us but she used a store bought cake mix for it. I have made her version several times (it's delicious!) but I would like a healthier version if you have one. Thank you! And may you all have a blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year! God Bless!
Thank you for all you information and your sweet way to present it to us!!! I thoroughly enjoy the excitement and respect you show for each other as well as all the great information. Please next year show more information on how to use milk Kefir and also how to make hard cheeses. I want to learn that craft. Once again thank you for all you do. Wishing you the Joy of Christmas as we all celebrate the birth of our Savior. Enjoy your time off. Thanks and Merry Christmas
I have been teaching my friends how to make their own sourdough starter from what I have learnt from you. I have also given them your website to where they can sign up and get your canning, bread and cheese making video's Thank you Carolyn and Josh I have learnt a lot from you both. I can't wait to start our garden next year.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. We will see you in the New year.
Carolyn, I noticed as soon as the video started that your hair looked like it had much more body, especially close to your scalp. Looks like it's working great! I'm tempted to try it since I am blonde and have very thin hair, I don't think I'd have the problem that your friend had with not being able to get it out. So in searching what garbanzo beans are, I discovered they are the same as chickpeas. You learn something new everyday! Thanks for sharing!
AKA Mrs. Minuteman 72, lol. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your RU-vid channel. I have learned SO much from you. And, I now have a kitchen makeover thanks to your Pantry Chat! We took the doors off a cabinet, and have some jars with chalk labels (Looking for something better there), and my husband bought me two spice racks and matchy matchy jars. My cast iron set is growing, and has a pretty new home to show them off. I am learning so much from you about canning and preserving. My mom passed away before I became interested in flowers, gardening, and I was terrified of the pressure canner (even though Mom never had an accident). Merry Christmas to your family, and thank you for your encouragement!
YES! My grandmother would ferment fruit to use in her fruit cake and also as a topping on pound cake! Please make a video on this that I can share with family. She would use fruit cocktail and sugar as I remember. My mind is faint on the rest.....
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Ideas for next year....where should I start lol.... I think my number one would be the zero waste like how to convert paper towels and laundry soap, fabric softner, health and beauty products and general cleaning supplies. Iv been working on some items starting small and trying what works for us( just me and hubby here) but he isnt as all in as I am so sometimes it takes a bit of work lol. Also I look forward to the home remedies!! I LOVE my herbals!! So also something that others might have questions about is finding places to store items. As in ur canner and jars and herbs not just to keeps them in there best condition but also for ease of movement and use. I love watching and learning from yall looking forward to an exciting and knowledge filled new year!
Merry Christmas to you and your family! I am so excited to see what the new year will bring for you! I am interested in so many of the topics you mentioned in your video. We live on 2 acres with fruit trees, a pond and a 45' x 75' garden, in northwest Ohio where I home school our four out of six children. My husband and I put the garden in and planted most of the fruit trees. We also raise chickens and rabbits. The waste from the aminals works out great to keep our compost bins active. My husband and I have been working our homestead for almost twenty years and there is always something new to learn! May your new year be blessed abundantly!
I would love videos about homemade hygiene products. I've tried multiple deodorant and shampoo recipes but it seems that baking soda makes my skin rashy. My shampoo recipes looked great at first, made my hair curly, and then it started breaking off ALOT. I'm always up for trying new recipes. I'd also like step-by-step videos on how to lay the black plastic mulch and how you handle it while the seeds are sprouting. Do you do any sewing? I'm also interested in simple patterns or where to buy fabrics in bulk for good prices.
Merry Christmas! Do you have any thoughts on planting perrenial food-providing plants at a home that is starting to feel temporary, as we approach empty nesting and we might move to a post-retirement property within 4-8 years (no clear plans yet)? We're in the suburbs now, with just a little space to garden, and I'm the only one in the family interested in homesteading practices. I have a lot to learn in my annuals garden still, and haven't decided how much to venture into planting perrenials - new learning curve, and is it worth it if we'd be leaving around the time they really get going and producing? We do have a section of yard that I could "play with," but I'm feeling a bit intimidated and hesitant. I've had bad luck with attempts so far, like blueberries and asparagus. Thanks! And enjoy your break. 😊
Plant them - you'll learn from every year you're there and take that knowledge with you if you move. If you don't move, you'll be glad you got started!
Haven't even watched the whole video yet but Carolyn your sweater is so beautiful and cozy looking. Merry Christmas and God's blessings to your family.
We use cloth bags for Christmas gift wrap. Buy clearance material after Christmas and sew all sorts of size bags with ribbon or drawstring to close. My mother passed on her’s to me.
Please do a video on self care products such as soap, shampoo, laundry detergent and any products that you make to limit your waste and that are better than what you buy mass produced.
I'm in Colorado today and it's almost 70° so I am thinking about gardening and I have had not great luck with my soil I have gone back and looked at your videos so I could try to amend the soil and I just cleaned out my chicken coops and put all that down on top of my garden I'm going to have my soil tested do you have any other suggestions I appreciate your time and suggestions
Thank you for the time stamps! I fell asleep and missed some. The time stamps made it easy to find what I missed and what I was especially wanting to hear. 😊
Josh! What a beautiful family! So glad i found your family's channel! You're living the good life! From your old school friend Dana Olney. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy blessed New Yr. Looking forward to being in your sour dough bread classes! I recently went from being extreemly active to being in a wheelchair. I fight everyday to hold onto my loves of homesteading! I still put up, store up, freeze up, can up..but slower and a bit less. My gathering is what suffers. Sad about that, but I'm very glad that my parents taught me to be a fighter! Love you guys, hugs.
I am an urban homesteader and looking for ideas on maintaining soil health. Also I would like more environmental friendly cleaning product recipes like laundry soap.
I've tried to make starter with white wheat and unbleached wheat flour and both bombed. I'd heard it needs to be with rye and I'm not at all fond of rye bread. Help
I was ordering the beginners kit of tools from the homestead store. I tried using the discount code but it said it was invalid. Was this for a limited time?
Marry Christmas and Happy New Year. Love your show, informative, encouraging to all of us. What I like to see is more pics, for example of your Christmas tree, The beautiful home made gifts, the embroider Thanksgiving table cloth, for me will be a beautiful Christmas present to receive from your Family. (I am an avid admire for all hand made things) All the Best to all of you and your followers. Teresa
Another wonderful video! You always share such great material with a lot of variety. You are also a great teacher, making things so clear. I have saved soooo many wonderful recipes from you. I can’t wait to see what new things you have planned for your homestead. Enjoy your little break that is so much deserved! Will be looking forward to when y’all get back. Wishing y’all a Very Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁 I pray for continued blessings on you, your family & your homestead. Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍❤️😁🙏
Wanting to say Happy Holidays! Thanks so much for sharing your lives. May this next year be your most fruitful. How did you guys meet, how did you decide on your family size and on how you would set up the way you would love life ( seems while stay inside in the kitchen for the most part and Dad is outside)? I'd love to hear a more detailed story of how y'alls journey started, where it started and why you chose where you are now? I'm also curious to what your thoughts are in regards to our nation ( politics) and if the rumors of a civil war has had any effects on where you live now(why you are where you are)? I heard you touch on the prepped stuff a pinch in a video a few months ago and really enjoyed your light-hearted response. I live in VA and am not up to par on political things or serious pepper stuff. It all kind of freaks me out. I just don't want to live my life in fear of the unknown. Then again, I don't want to turn a blind eye. You all seem to be very balanced which I find very comforting. So, should I be heading to the mountains, pulling our 401 k, living off grid or head to the north west? My hubby isn't concerned and I hope he is correct. Thanks and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas! I have been enjoying your videos for quite a while now. Love, love all of them. I would really like to see a video on how to cook grass-fed beef and pork (steaks, roasts, chops) so they are not tough and dry. I can't seem to get it right and I have to buy this type of meat from a local farm and it is not cheap. Tips and tricks for each cut would be amazing. Oh, ribs too! Thank you
Hello my name is Dawn and I am a new viewer and I am now doing the lessons for Bread Making I just did the 1st one and I am looking forward to the next one. I found this video and realized that you have a website that I am looking forward to getting to know you guys. Also, I wanted to tell you that my Grandma grew, canned and froze her garden for years and I loved that part of my childhood.
Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy your sleep-ins! I've got 2 weeks off work and we plan to go to the beach and relax as it's our summer holidays. ☀️🎄 Have a good one!
I would really like to know how you make the garbanzo bean no poo mixtures d how to use it? Merry Christmas to you and your family! You guys a true blessing to us that learn something from every video you show!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! I’m interested in composting items for my urban garden! No manure here! Just my kitchen waste! I also save our old cold coffee for it as well! But more ideas are needed! Love your channel ! Nancy from Canada
Happy Christmas to you and all your family, have a well deserved rest! I made the Parkerhouse rolls and they were wonderful! It took longer to rise than when you made them and I ended up putting them into the fridge overnight and cooking them in the morning so we had fresh bread at breakfast.
Before our house fire we used to cut our own every year. Since then we have a fake tree thankfully because we couldn't afford a real one right now. We sure do miss it though.
I hope you’re going to show us how to do the shampoo. I also think he needs to use it in his beard. And also show us how to do the cheese the different types of cheese. Pleeeease
