This was actually based on the Yoshihiro Hattori murder. In that case, he rang the doorbell and was shot walking back to the car when there was no answer. The shooter was also acquitted.

i love this show but this episode was rediculous--a crazy kid dressed up like kiss trying to get into your house--i'd have killed him, too. and that bit about applauding his death--they were applauding because a good man wasn't going to jail for defending his family.
You’re kinda missing the point of the show, which is what all this means to a person who have to live smoking and make sense of it, every day… Because it’s his or her job..
