Homm3 Hero Portrait Remaster: Knights 

Wonderful work. I think Sylvia and Catherine gain the most. Especially Sylvia, with the shadows and depth. Really brings to life these characters of my childhood.

Knights is arguably the most difficult hero class to remaster; Largest class with 13 images, lots of chainmail, sword handles, and arrow fins, 3d renders, Sir Mullich, and the set contains some of the most recognizable and legendary characters. Moreover, image quality is somewhat poorer than with other classes, and some expressions and facial shapes just didn't play out well in higher resolution. I actually started this project with knights almost a year ago, and they've remained in the backlog ever since. But now that my workflow has refined and quality standard has changed, the first iteration was pretty much nullified and I had to start from scratch.

Wonderful, but somehow the harsh faces, menacing eyes, wrinkles and deep furrows disappeared (not because of the pixeles) and became much softer and decent looks. Just look at Valeska for example. Her dangerous eyes, and her rough cheeks as her original looks.

This should be in hota :)

Fantastic work as always! It's quite funny that I saw Sylvia as a young robber knight who preferred adventures and surprises for ambushes, and in the new version she is a seriously woman knight leading a fleet 😁 Tyris turned out quite interesting. From a thin face to a juicy bun. But the neck is shown more clearly, it always seemed either massive or went to the right side 🧐 Lord Haart become to Jaime Lannister 😏 Sorsha is very beautiful, the only thing I think is that the helmet is a little longer. Interesting detail, I didn't know that Edric had a beach with sea and rocks in the background, I always thought that there were only castle walls behind him. How exciting when there is so much hidden behind the original painting! 😮 Catherine woooww ❤❤

It's like a totally different character. Everything seems better and sharped, but is also toned down. The eyes smaller and have that new Jill Valentine looks to them, Lips smaller and passive expression, brows in some cases like they were on a make up artist or were drawn, cheeks flattened and overall the expression. Can you feel the legendary rage of Catherine when you look at her? I love AI, but without providing it more details, it will steer us off into it's direction instead of the other way around.

Thanks for making these, they are quite amazing. Nostalgia hits pretty hard seeing some of these characters coming alive.

Valeska- I like the details on her chain mail. Her face also looks nice, though a part of me also thinks that her face looks a little too smooth. Sylvia- She looked like she saw something horrible in the original portrait. I like the remastered portrait and how it gives Sylvia a more determined expression on her face. Orrin- Simply amazing. I love the details on the chain mail and the background. Tyris- I like the details on her hair and the castle behind her. She looks like she's ready to keep marching on and move on to whatever battle that awaits her. Lord Haart- It like how he's awaiting for your command in both portraits. Both are good portraits IMO. Roland- He looks like he's happy to see light again in the original portrait, while he looks more solemn in the remaster. Makes sense since he was captured and tortured by the Kreegans. Don't give into your dark thoughts, Roland! Christian- I don't like the wrinkles above Christian's eyebrows in the remaster. But other than that, the portrait looks good. It looks like he's saying, "Sir Christian, reporting for duty." Young Christian- His portrait in the original looks like he's done with everything, while the remaster looks like he's either drunk or homesick. Or it could be both. Kendal- His portrait in the original looks like he's trying to look behind his back, while Kendal looks solemn in the remaster. Sorsha- Isn't she supposed to be wearing a chain mail like Valeska, Sylvia, and Orrin? She looks fine otherwise. Edric- He looks better in the remaster, though the remastered portrait has less light than the original. Catherine- Aw, the remaster took away the angry expression on her face. In the original, she looks like she's ready to defend Erathia no matter the costs, while in the remaster, she looks like she's happy to see her home. Mullich- I like how you made the portrait look more like David Mullich. His face looked too bright in the original, so I'm also glad you lowered the brightness in the remaster.

Valeska - good. Sylvia - she lost some kind of pirate craziness in her eyes. New face is too serious. Orrin - received brutal chin and became to look older. But probably for the best. Tyris - good. Lord Haart - looking good, but... I do not know. There was some kind of cold and deadly threat his eyes. And it weakened in new picture. Roland - became more serious. But that is good. More suitable appearance for the king. Cristian - looks a little bit too young. Young Cristian - looks like almost a child. General Kendal - good. Sorsha - lost angry threat in her eyes. Edric - his gaze became calmer. Well, thats ok, i guess. Catherine - lost her anger and fury. Became to look older. I guess new look is more suitable for the queen, but in Homm 3 she is young and spending most of her time on the war. Sir Mullich - lost his angry squint. And that is really bad. He doesn't look angry and agressive like he should.

Very impressive work! Liked how Sorsha turned out remastered, in this version she reminds me of Cassandra from Dragon Age. Catherine also looks excellent. Funny how the younger version of Christian has eyes of different colour than the older version in the original.

3:30 no idea how Kendal got his big head into that small helmet...but I think he will never get out again.

Great work. This has to be the most important sets to remaster. I feel that so many of the old photos had weird shadows or eyes. You improved them immensely

Very nice job on them overall. Sylvia, Valeska, Tyris and Christian stand out to me as the face lifts that looks the most faithful to the originals - well done! Lord Haart and Sorsha not as much if we're throwing in some constructive critisism - Sorsha looks quite model-ey which doesn't quite fit the medieval/fantasy-esque vibes of HoMM, and Lord Haart looks quite bitter and stern compared to his original quite neutral expression. But overall - really good job! :)

Kinda lost Sorsha's mean eyes and Catherine's mad joy but in Catherine's case it certainly worked in her favour. Roland looks a lot better remastered and I think the others came out well.

All amazing, but I think Sylvia and Catherine have fiercer looks, like those crazy bloodlusted knights from medieval times which liked to crush enemy peasants.

The in-game version of Sorsha looks not much unlike the original, but in the the high-resolution version feels off: I believe that, just like Valeska, Orrin, Sylvia and Edric, he's supposed to be wearing a mail coif, while here it's clearly fabric. But overall, these are great. I like Edric, Catherine and Christian in particular. Also, turns out Tyris is a female. Yes, now that I checked the in-game description calls Tyris a she, but I never realized.

I always assumed that Roland is smirking. And Sylvia looks like she just saw her ex-boyfriend with a girl hotter than her.

Catherine has a specific symbol on her crown which is retained through the series and shouldn't be changed, imo.

I pretty much despise all kinds of "remakes" and "remasters". They are usually done by people with little talent of their own and no new ideas whatsoever (let alone AI). You don't mess with a masterpiece, trying to "improve" or "modernize" it, thinking you know best. You simply don't. But I have to admit, that this is probably the most faithful, subtle and elegantly done remaster I've ever seen. I still prefer the original, though. With all its quirks and "imperfections". Unlike code, game balance or even interface, that usually can be changed and improved, the art design is such a canonic thing, that any "fixes" to it would inevitably ruin the charm.

Turis is a little bit fat, Christian is a little bit girly and his blue eyes was changed for some reason, others are perfect. Katherine is even better without her crazy eyes.

if i were a crusdader, i would die for Sorsha ! if i were a homm3 character i would love Catherine ! Roland looks so real ! Orrin and Christian's eyes are a bit too green and blue. Tyris is wonderfull! Never really liked Sir Mulloch. That toon was just too unbalanced. Sylvia looks older and angry, she looks happier in the original version. Never seen young christian nor Kendal, maybe characters from the campaign ? never played it. Lord Haart, uhm i dunno, somehow, he 's devilish, i know he is a knight but his beauty is unatural ! i like to play him tho. Great work again !

I expected it to be a fail and it is a fail. As I said before, all human faces in your projects are just boring, dull AI faces, all in similar style with one another. It's not your fault, I guess, AI is just unable to express enough emotions. There isn't a single portrait among these, which I would like to use in the game.
