Wow you could visibly see his distress slowly start to lessen as he practiced the exercises! What a blessing! What a courageous man to be willing and open to do this in front of a cameras, no less! He looked visibly lighter at the end. You could see he felt hopeful. There was still a fraction of something left in there, but he looked so much lighter and brighter. The power of hope is really something! Through mindfulness, that therapist gave that man hope by guiding him to see himself more clearly and showing him that he's worthy and he's in charge of his desires and urges. We all are! We've been so conditioned to think we have no power over ourselves, that we're just animals or objects to be acted upon by our urges and appetites. Mindfulness is such a wonderful gift! It allows us to finally catch a glimpse of our true, beautiful higher selves, without judgement (imo as God sees us). Society would have us believe that we're merely the sum of our desires, that we have no control and therefore no responsibility for ourselves. We're so much more powerful and wonderful than that! Thank you Thomas for a glimpse at your beautiful soul. And thank you, therapist for your courage in helping him with such a delicate subject.

So, he needs to become straight before you could see ''a glimpse of his beautiful soul.'' No hate here. Just an observation.

In the same way, you can practise mindfullness of shame and guilt and so lessen it while still enjoying the sexual feelings.

Something I noticed way before discovering any video like this, that I had been following some young fit bodybuilder obsessively, but suddenly he posted a "before" picture of him, full of acne, belly bigger than I ever had, with a video of him crying to get to the gym and suddenly I lost any interest in him in a second. This is what I also notice when dating, I meet a guy who feels special, attractive but as soon as discover than he is less stable than me and that it was just a face mask, I cant even do anything with him anymore, it switches from something exciting to a disgust. I live in big US cities which are gayest places on earth but compared to my other gay friends, who are happy by who they are, I could never manage my sexuality. It's a only for a very specific college type guys with specific features, which after turning 30 are harder to get, but even when I was young, I never found any happiness in sex with them. My sexuality was just one big obsessive-compulsive disorder which I could never control. Given that im in my 30s, and dudes that im mostly into are 20-25, I just find comparing part of this excercise a bit more challenging, but I just thought I may use my old pics to compare them agaist them. Btw I feel like I am at the end of this journey anyway. Now looking back, I feel like my attractions vastly deminished anyway older I got. I just started looking at myself in other way - im goodlooking, 6'3 muscular guy and I started noticitng it over years - the fact that I'm not missing much. My problem is fetish related more, I walk happy, confidently and suddenly see (less and less over the years) some college dude wearing specific outfit and then suddenly this anxiety hits me, I have to check him again and again. The feeling is horrible - like some fear, anxiety, I feel not worthy, not masculine, like some weirdo and like i have to act out. Like I dont know if I am into him or he just has something I actually want. This totally can destroy my day, my confidence. But again this happens less and less - I mamage to fight it with comparing myself - seeing that the guy is for example short (im tall), not in a perfect shape etc but I know this is not mature way anyway. I will try some of the excercises I saw here. I also, over the years started to get curious about women, went on some vacation last year to asia and I slept with few. This gave me a lot of a confidence - like a conclusion that Im not missing anything as a guy. These feelings I have are mostly around sporty college guys - which I could never buddy up with since I was fat and horrible at sports. Again, i feel like a mature way to approach this is to understand that not everyone is into sports, and not playing group sports does not exclude me from being 100% male.

I subscribed to the tenants of Dr Joe for many years as endorsed by my religion. I wish I had realized then what I know now. I gave testimonials, my transformation captured in books, but it was not real change. Since then, the Mormon Church stopped endorsing the program and I find that mindfulness and meditation help me find peace and purpose as a very authentic gay man. I will not repeat the mistake of telling others where to find happiness. Each must walk their own path. But I do hope you spend less than the 25 years that I spent actively working to force this path to feel "right."

Yes because lustful attraction is not appreciation, it is worship which by definition includes self depreciation and shame. When you really see yourself and another for who you each are, the other person becomes a person you can accept as a well rounded person rather than as a sexual object to serve a purpose of making you feel good.
@ala9961

@@yomama...isaverynicelady thank you for that point of view. So why not having for title: Lustful attraction is not what you think it is. It's will be more accurate and helpful for many more.

@@ala9961 Your criticizm is fair. The reason im okay with the title is that theres particular aspects of the experience of trauma derived homosexual attraction that do not apply to other lust related complexes. For instance a young woman who has a ravaging lust towards older men will at the root also be experiencing a shame based attraction that is perceived as a way to cope with the trauma. However, she is not comparing herself to the man in that. She is perhaps comparing him to her father. Well, I could add more detail but long story short, at the root all complexes and sexual dysfunction share the same root in my opinion, but there are distinctions in the experiences so there are times it may be necessary to specifically address informative materials for people who deal with one specific type of issue.
@ala9961
@ala9961 3 месяца назад
@@yomama...isaverynicelady Once again, we come to this subtle parallel, conscious or not, that homosexuality goes hand in hand with trauma and dysfunction. Although many homosexual experiences are tainted by trauma, we must not confuse causes and consequences. Just as a young boy discovering a countertenor voice in adolescence will not have the same experience depending on whether he evolves in a developed artistic and lyrical environment or in a remote area where boys must be baritones , the immediate social and cultural environment influences the self-perception that the acceptance of one's homosexuality develops. But, hey, this has all been repeated for years now. It's up to everyone to find their way and be master of their ship with the benchmarks they choose.
@yomama...isaverynicelady
@yomama...isaverynicelady 3 месяца назад
@@ala9961 I don't think acknowledging there are forms of homosexuality that are trauma based coping mechanisms is the same as saying that people are not free to decide whether they think that applies to all cases or just to some. Of course people who are insecure about their lgbt identity (although they may claim otherwise) will be angered by anyone speaking about their experience overcoming trauma if it resulted in a change in se-ual attractions. But the real reason it angers some people is because they believe they are shamed by the world for who they are and want everyone and everything to validate that anyone identifying as gay is born that way so that they can feel "it is how I was born. it is not my choice. so you don't have a right to judge me for it". But to be real, in going at things in that way, they are narcissistically dismissing the pain or suffering of others as not worth talking about because it reminds them of their own insecurities and trauma (whether their insecurities or traumas led to their own se-ual urges or not). TLDR: Everyone is free to tell their story and live their experience and pretending another person's story and experience is harmful to some other person is narcissistic and illogical.

I found this video from curiosity on this topic. While watching I looked up signs of DISHONESTY. Notice how he blinks a lot and his face and body language don't match. This seems like an INAUTHENTIC way to get RID of his sexuality. No matter what your beliefs are I hope people FEEL me on this.
