Honda’s FAKRA Connector Recall 

Lol yea I’m in 12 years and so much changed and can only imagine another 30 years from now

I have a 2019 Passport... this recall was completed but the audio system popped and crackled... I took the gauge cluster out and the audio unit... unplugged and plugged everything in, made sure all the connections were seated properly and that seemed to fix it (I had previously cut the zip tie on the connections on the right rear control unit near the spare tire (don't know what that unit is) as those 2 connections were really tight. Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem, hence why I took the dash apart.

@@shawnpedri7948 honestly the majority of the issue that we see is all routing related. If there’s to much tension on the connector your gonna have that issue that’s why we use the borescope to check how it looks once it’s in place. A lot of times it looks good when it’s out but when you put the gauge control module or audio unit back in the wires get tensioned to one side

I appreciate the feedback I think showing the consumer what we do at the dealer for the recalls helps them understand better. As for disassembly It's not as bad as it looks these are super easy to disassembly the interior once you do a couple. At my dealership we tell customers a few hours and advise them to drop it off, if possible, the job itself depending on the year and trim anywhere from an hour to 2 hours but we can only do so many as our dealership is a bit small, so we usually don't bring them in rite away. For the Touring model the right rear panel must be removed to gain access to the connectors at the Tuner Unit so your vehicle may take about 2 hours to complete. As for the brake warning system Yes, we do see pilots come in complaining about the issue. A lot of times its due to different driving conditions the glare from the sun reflection from the road or other vehicles or if the radar cover is dirty and has debris on there it could possibly cause issue. It could just need to be aimed if there was any slight front impact. I would definitely mention it to the dealer when you bring in for the recall maybe there's some code stored that could help. As for the batteries, Where you live does have a huge impact on battery life. The Touring's should have an AGM battery installed as it has the Auto Idle Stop feature if you had it repalced maybe someone installed a regular battery? Hope I was able answered all your questions!

Really? That’s interesting this recall usually takes care of the issue and I do agree the odysseys do have a good amount of recalls which can be frustrating as a consumer. As for the battery our battery testers that we use at the dealer is better than the ones used at a parts store plus if the person using the tester dosnt enter in the correct information like if it’s a flood battery or an AGM that can mess up the test as well and give you false readings

Yes it should be avail to purchase since there’s a part number you would have to call your dealer and ask if their willing to sell the kit 2. I would recommend using the newest bulletin which is performed in this video. But the majority of the concern is usually routing of the wires that can solve a lot of the issues as long as there’s kinks or sharp bends you should be good

You can always decline the recall if you want you just have to sign stating you decline the repairs. I’ve had multiple customers not wanting it done because the did have issues and it’s finally fixed and they didn’t want to run the risk and have the issue come back. I spoke with a Honda field technician that was at my dealership this past week and I asked him how was the recall going because I know in the past before this recall was released that was a lot of his calls was to try and figure out the issue after we did the repairs and he said it’s gotten a lot better after this new recall coming out he barley get any complaints about it so that shows it’s working and you should be concerned hope this helped

Is it just completely black or does it give you an error message if one of the connections came undone it might have a black screen and network communication error message Honda with the back housings being backwards and the arrow not facing the red tags the connector inside the housing isn’t seated correctly but I don’t that that would cause the problem

@thehondatechnician its completely black. No error messages no sound. Has power, ground and communication. Although i don't have access to any wiring diagrams.

No accords dosnt have FAKRA connectors

yes its probably affected, but to make sure call your local honda dealer with the vin and they can run a VIN inqury and see if it is eligable.

anything can happen but not likely. nothing with the HVAC gets touched that would cause that.

Unfortunately the MOST system sucks but it comes down to the wire routing and making sure there’s no tension on the wires. I’ve fixed so many of theses issues just by rerouting the wires in some cases the dash harness or tuner unit replacement fixes the issue.

I took the car in this morning. Found out when something is in the rear, driver’s side cubby in the very back, the “check tuner” comes on and off, speakers crackle, and then the whole screen goes off. Only when something is in the very back though. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m hoping the dealership figures it out this time. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Yes they came out with a lot of recalls and service bulletins for this concern but the latest seems to take care of 99% of the problem

Hm interesting depending on trim model the rear is included in the recall

i didn't buy them, but I'm sure you could buy them from your local Honda dealer just call and ask the parts department.

Odysseys are a pain a lot more has to be removed to do this recall

Depends on the trim level but usually around an hour to an hour and a half
