@@danielevertsson7978 Lol if you didn't know already, Sabine Schmitz is a female racing driver and an expert of this track. She has done hundreds and thousands of laps of the Ring. Go watch some of her videos with Top Gear, it's really fascinating.
Maybe the 14 HP actually more is almost enough, I think so. Previous FK2 was 306 HP. Note that this is the 320 HP EU version and not the 306 HP US version.
People say 4 cylinders and FWD are lame... It must be such a joy to drive, so responsive and quick. Currently trying to beat the record in a virtual FK8:)
What "people" ?? The most successful racing engine in Indycar was a 4 cylinder (Offenhauser), the most powerful ever Formula 1 engine was a 4 cylinder (BMW M10 with limitless turbo boost in 1986). In WRC rally virtually all winning cars the past 40 years have bee 4 cylinder (minus the 5 cylinder Audi Quattro). And then we haven't even mentioned all the touring car championships (WTCC, BTCC, Italian Superturismo, French Supertouring, STCC, etc) And the most reliable car ever in the Guinness Book of Records is a Volvo P1800 owned by Irv Gordon. He drove it for 5,3 million kilometers from 1966 to 2018 (when Irv Gordon died). The Volvo P1800 is powered by the very reliable B18 engine... which is... a 4-cylinder engine.
Berk Karataş Please check what did VW. They removed rear seats and air con. So, they cheat big time. Where is Honda, just compensate the weight of adding roll g cage for safety and remove rear seats and entertainment system , to make the same weight as before. So, VW is suck big time. Don't protect them, just because you like VW more then Honda. Type-R simply is much better machine
Roman Just as a note... the removed rear seats and A/C in the Golf GTI Clubsport S (note the S designating exactly these changes over the non-S) is how the car was sold. Big difference and not a point you can use against their record attempt. So much for "cheating".
Hey, I understand you feel cheated (I'm a fellow 9th gen Si owner as well) but to be clear, Si models are developed by HPD which is a subsidiary of Honda North America and has VERY little to do with the actual Honda R&D in Japan. I don't know your age and your field of profession, but engineering is a decision making process to solve problems (or achieve goals.. and in the industry, such goals are often defined by the marketing department. In the end, companies need to make profit). Just because the Si can't beat a 10th base model, it doesn't mean it's not engineered well. Take it to a local autocross or racetrack to find out what I mean. It's not perfect but with some minor tweaks here and there, the 9th gen Si can be a very capable car.
I have a Honda Civic 1.8 from 2008. Nothing ever breaks down and driving it is so smooth. Very easy steering and shifting. And NO oil consumption AT ALL! The level of reliability of these machines is inhumane.
William Stewart if i ever get one, i'll be so happy owning it even if the competition outpass it as will eventually happen one day! I understand your opinion and respect it but only if it was the same when the golf gti clubsport broke the record too! I am sure that all these helped the new type-r to make a better lap but i believe that even with the production car the difference won't be that big! IMHO!
Spyros Skam Tires alone can make for a drastic difference. I would never buy either as someone my age would look like a fool in a hot hatch, just stating my opinion that's all.
Of course the CTR is more hardcore in terms of looks and the Golf on the other hand is much more subtle. Its a good second car to have in your garage. In my opinion even the Golf Clubsport its not a good first car.
William Stewart i have a family so i wouldn't buy one either. As you know dreams are still free and even family guys must dream as well. The ctr will cost more than 50K in Greece so it can only be a dream car for me.
Am I missing something? In all this Honda Hype and native advertising the real hero is missing, THE DRIVER! The Honda logo is on just about every second of this video. I never saw the drivers name. Did I blink and miss it? Or is it so inconsequential it didn't garner mentioning? Here is the real headline: " destroys Nurburgring lap record in Honda Civic."
Jim Mero; Z06, ZR1, etc. He is actually the chassis engineer though also. Corvette wanted Jan Magnassen to drive at first, but ended up letting Mero and he's been the guy ever since.
I think the wider/heavier back end of the new Civic distributes the car’s weight well for great turning. The Turbo operates very smoothly. The aerodynamics of the car is good also, resulting in a smooth ride at high speed.
@@quandaledingle7564 It had upgraded tires and an undisclosed amount of other supporting modifications. Plus it did not encounter any overheating problem that the car was famous for during the entire lap, which was odd and led to the hypothesis that the AC condenser was removed to aid cooling. Fast forward 4 years later, honda released the limited edition which had the same stock tires as the car that achieved the 7:43 lap time (sport cup 2) and no AC.
Picked up my 15”(9th Gen Civic Si )few months ago and it’s a Dream come true/hard to express in words the feeling to have Honda Civic Si finally🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏 Honda for life!! The Power of Dreams🏎
“The extra weight of the cage was compensated for by the temporary removal of the infotainment system and rear seats. The car was using road legal track-focused tyres.”
Fancy way of saying DOT-legal cheater slicks. This time is a joke, I'll believe it when an independent source does it with a car fresh off a random lot.
@@kacperziajka7920 First of all, not the stock tires that come on the car. Second of all, there are slicks with just a couple of small grooves to be *TECHNICALLY* street legal, but are completely dishonest and not representative of a practical street tire, hence the term "cheater slicks".
@@nunyabusiness896 Fair enough on the fact they're not standard, but as far as I'm aware they're options. So, if they're road legal I don't see why they'd be unfair or impractical. I can see why they're a bit on the cheat side here, on a track where these tires are best within legal road limits, but if they're road legal (even if impractical), it's the owners decision. Definitely agree on the option fact. Can't deny that they're not the stock tyres. But, if it's an option, it's part of the car so I can understand why they used them. It'd be a different story if they were tyres you couldn't even option.
@@kacperziajka7920 I don't think they are an option. These DOT-legal slicks would be almost dangerous on public roads and don't grip well without being at elevated (race) temperatures. The point still stands that it's an extreme advantage to be on tires like that and if you're going to claim a record, other OEMs should get a run on the same tires. IMO all car comparisons should be done on equal tires.
This would be an ideal car for daily and on the track. Would definitely consider getting this as my first car once I work as compared to a 370z, Golf GTI or Subaru. The perfect blend of form and function in my opinion.
They added a roll cage for added rigidity and Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for increased grip. Some have said they also increased boost for more hp. Not exactly stock.
Late to the party but next year i'm looking forward to getting an FK8 2018 or 19 Type-R. Always been a fan of the Type-R now is the time to experience it. The aggressive styling looks great, the interior is nice and practicality makes it perfect for daily driving.
Its only 8 seconds off the tesla model s plaid which has a 1000hp, a 1000nm tourque, awd. The civic has a third of the power, less than half the tourque. a single clutch manual transmission and front wheel drive. It also costs a 1/5 of the price to buy. You do the math
everything about the new Fk8 type R is almost the revelation to future FF cars design. The grunt as shown in the high gear at low speed, the short throw of the manual transmission, the speed of which the front end turns into a corner.... the thing is though the video should be much more clearer... Porsche GT3 on the Porsche channel did a nice job on that
I'm not hating on the car but thanks for calling out the WRX, the car that did the same track in 6:57.5 Mins and don't say that that car was modified for that run because so was this, no excuse to be made sorry.
+Christopher Lam calling the ra nbr just as you would any wrx or even sti is disingenuous bullshit. it's a limited edition track car that just happens to be road legal and would make for a shitty daily driver. the extent of the type r mods for this lap vs ra nbr mods are not even remotely close.
Amazing how chassis design has helped over the yrs, not to mention braking and suspension technology. The fact that an old jaguar xj220 with 540hp did the ring in the same time as a 300hp Honda hot hatch. Unbelievable!!
If youll look closely on the water temp gauge, it did increase a bit around half the lap and stayed there till the end. Another lap more and it could be overheating...
Yeah they do have this problem as most all oem turbo car does. Bigger intercooler and better oil cooling system is the first mod to go with if you're pushing the car
Great job, Honda, excellent performance!! Was that Norbert, Tiago, or Ryo driving? Good luck this year in WTCC!! (The FK8 seems to corner so much smoother and accelerates more promptly than the FK2.)
Congratulations Honda!!!!! you have a new record on 2018 Civic Type R!!!!!!! 2015 Honda Civic Type R: 07:50:63 2018 Honda Civic Type R: 07:43:80 (New Lap time!!!!) #ThePowerofDreams #HondaCivic #TypeR
man... for the price tag... you are getting some serious performance. I am not even a fan of the civic, but dang that is a hell of a car. I wonder how long it actually lasts for.
I am just so glad to own an FK8! I live my FK8. It's funny how, I can't wait to wake up just to drive it. Can't say I've ever felt this way before. I really love driving it. Always what we 90s fan boy wanted. A turbo honda right from the manufacturer. So so awesome!
Nazwrok brok No. Only used for the record lap. By the way, it's only a rumor that the tyres are the Michelins, because Honda didn't reveal the exact tyre model. But they indeed said it was a road legal track tyre. So cannot be the Continental sc6 that the car will have in the showroom and the street . So not that credible this laptime.
so many people mad at them for using racing tires. What do you expect? Do you wanna them to go to a race track with ice cream tires? Save your street tires to your way to the groceries shop. I wanna see what the car is capable of at the conditions a sports car is supposed to go to the race track.
Hello does it is possible to know, oil used and water used for the track...? On this video the motor doesn't overheat..? I'm French and sorry for my English but I really love my fk8.., I'm just so upset to hate to stop after to laps on track for overheating... Thank you very much
