I have 2018 Accord 2018 1.5 turbo. Because of this oil 🛢 condition, I change it every 2500 to 3000. I do this when oil passes the orange piece of the dipstick which it happens around that range
I changed the oil today on my 2020 Honda Accord LX after nearly 5000 miles. I have a Mishimoto oil catch can. I drained about 3.8 quarts of oil out, the catch can had less than an ounce. My shortest trip is 30 miles though.
I have the rhino ramps as well. If it doesn't clear, use a piece a 2x6 to help it clear like on the video here. If you have issues because the ramp is too slippery in the garage floor, keep trying very slow. If you accelerate too much the wheels will pull the ramp back and it will not work. I usually don't do it in the garage unless its raining, the ramps work better-outside.
I am not but I recommend draining the oil at the next change and see how much oil you get. I swear I collected an extra quart than what was supposed to be in there due to excessive oil dilution or perhaps shops overfilling the engine with the usual 4.5Q vs the 3.6Q this engine needs...... It was very dirty, smelled of gasoline and we drained an extra quart than what was put in. The previous guy may have overfilled the 1.5L engine. My friend said the gas mileage went up like never before after the change so maybe it was historically overfilled
@@WorksforMe So you are suffering pretty hard as well from oil dilution. Me too I believe. My car is brand new 4500 miles on it and dipstick smells. Was the oil dipstick level very high? Do you think this oil dilution problem could ruin these engines down the road? Want this car to last a looong time. Honda said they made a 'software' fix but that is just not true....
@@bkhavityoway23 Yes, i've confirmed this on a 2018, 2019 accord. The oil level was crazy high on the dipstick. Short trips apparently are bad for oil dilution because the engine hasn't had time to warm up. Not sure how the reliability would be affected, but i'd do oil changes every 3-5k miles to be safe.
@@WorksforMe Gotcha. Ok so an important question-- Do you put in the recommended 0w-20 or do you go with the slightly thicker 5w-30 like others have recommended? I don't want to void my factory warranty
@@bkhavityoway23 always use only recommended oil on the oil fill cap. Oil dilution is due to excess (unburnt) fuel in the combustion chamber from the GDI fuel injectors. I am not sure why anyone recommends using a thicker oil, if there are any sources that recommend that I would like to see why. Typically thicker oil is used when the car is burning oil, common in older engines with worn piston rings.
@Grant Klopfenstein well I control the cleanliness of the filter so i'm confident of no-contamination -- i've done this for years so its OCD by now. But i agree with you, i dont think i need to fill it up with oil, a number of cars have oil filter sideways which cannot be filled up first but the ones that have filter top to bottom i will probably continue to do it, just old habit
