The Honda Accord is one of many stylish saloons on the market tempting car buyers.
Although it offers the usual chiselled exterior, road domineering front-end and comfort driven interior as other saloons, the Honda Accord tends to fall under the radar a little when compared to its Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia competitors.
The Honda Accord saloon has also received some bad press for its slightly 'outdated' interior design, albeit it is very comfortable and practical.
But does the Honda Accord have enough on offer to trump competition?
We put it through its paces in our latest Honda Accord road test.

I've been a mechanic for 25 years and have always witnessed engine problems with BMW, Audi, VW, occasionally with Ford, but never with Honda. This is a bit of crap review as most BMW and audi engines will start to fail (electric water pumps, timing change issues and very high oil consumption) around 80 to 100k miles. The Honda engines will continue to work without fault. If you're putting a load of money into a car you don't want to be giving you issues in the future, then get a Honda!

Framus 1634 superb, spot on. I’m on 120000 miles on my previous shape 2007 Honda Accord. It goes like a rocket and doesn’t seem to use oil at all. Also my petrol one, at least, doesn’t seem to get louder, even if you thrash it!

@@itsallrobbish i was a bit unlucky, when i bought my 2008 Honda Accord 4 years ago. it was at the car workshop for 4 months out of the first 6 months i had it. but ever since i i have not had any problems with it. It is on 79000 miles now.
@itsallrobbish

Goggarin1991 like you say, that’s pretty unlucky for a Honda. Good for you for persevering. I’m sure you’ll get years of reliable motoring to come. I quite fancied getting a Civic next, but I hear the Accords are so well made, I’ll just get another one, when the time eventually comes.
@itsallrobbish

Brilliant, I hear this all the time. Such a shame the UK won’t seem to ever get another Accord. I’ll get one, once I’ve had enough of my 2007 model

Why on earth would you buy this over a Mondeo or Insignia? Why, because it’s much better, especially as a long termer proposition, the resale is on a par with the BMW 3 series, it looks great and the build quality is in another league, including anything German. The German manufacturers may have the thunking doors and the soft touch interiors down to a fine art, but build quality also includes the electrics, precision shut lines of body panels, strength of door hinges, longevity of gearboxes, running gear, engines, corrosion resistance, paint quality etc etc. and the Honda is a superb quality piece of engineering that excels in every area.......it’s such a shame HONDA won’t bring them into the UK anymore.

Kronos my account got hacked The previous version of this. You might get a 2006\7 Honda Accord Euro, great reliability, nice looks which look modern and contemporary. I’ve had one for 4 years. Brake pads, droplinks and a ball joint, the only expenses. I’m get 42mpg+ from a 2 litre petrol.

Looks like Great car! To me, the reviewer was nit-picking to find anything bad about the car. And then over all only gave it a 3.5 rating? Strange. Honda is known for reliability. Unlike ford and Vauxhall!
@itsallrobbish
@itsallrobbish 5 лет назад
pmktravel “interior build quality needs looking at” yeah, right, super soft touch plastics look and feel great in the showroom, but even 6 years down the line, most cars will start to look a bit curly around the edges, a Honda Accord will feel and look pretty tight for nigh on the next 10 years!

The mondeo is no comparison to the accord. The mondeo is a cheaply built shit box, a commoners car, with very little appeal to real drivers. Let face it, your not going to turn heads in a mondeo, but you will do in a GT specced accord.

A mechanic once told me that out of all of the modern diesel cars he's seen (that is, manufactured after 2008), the Accord is the most reliable! If reliability is your thing, then look no further. These beasts are built to last, unlike German cars, which you pay a fortune for but then are worthless 10 years down the road!

Comparing Accord with Insignia, Mondeo.. That's a laugh. These car are no way near to Accord. What's the point of getting the cars shown above, when every month they are taken to the garage for one thing or the other. I am not saying all cars, but i believe review in this video seems not to have done a fair review of the Accord.

if you compare the Honda Accord with something else from Ford or Opel you don't know nothing about cars! the engine and gearbox reliability and performance are reasons alone to pick the Honda. try to get a Ford Mondeo to 130 km/h in 3rd gear and you will collect it's nuts and bolts from the side of the road in a bucket!

I have to say, I'm a 17 year old and am about 5'11 and have sat comfortably in the middle seat of the Accord for 2+ hour journeys, it's not too bad to be completely honest, but you have to keep your legs in the side passenger footwells

My dad has the 2009 Honda accord. (We live in UK) We have the auto mirror feature thing the he was complaining about. Also we never had a problem with the navigation system speaking and we have the car since 2009. So he is just talking shit. Also my dad now has a 2017 BMW m5 and he doesn't drive his Honda much now but he doesn't want to sell it either because he says its a really good and reliable car and also since we had the car it never broke down and we traveled quite abit with that car. We went to France and Spain multiple times in that car and never had a problem with it. Also in the Honda we have there are way WAY MORE features than this guy presented.But we do have the executive edition so yeah

Comparing Accord with Insignia and Mondeo, may be other brands would have top nosh features, however you will decide, that you want your car to stay in the workshop or the road. I had owned other cars (mainly used / second hand), however my personal experience was not good, so i am a true Honda lover, as there cars take you A to Z with no issues.

This appears to be the base spec ES. I have the EX GT and it has everything. The Sat Nav brightness can be adjusted (as with contrast and menu colour) and it is particularly easy to use however I agree the resolution is a little low. 3.5 stars is a little harsh, I think 4 stars is more realistic.

+Simon Jolly 3.5 is about right, it's up against the VW Passat, Mazda 6 and BMW 3 series. The mondeo is a much better drive and is was far cheaper new but strangly has held its value better used than the Accord.

@SYMONYSSUS
@SYMONYSSUS 8 лет назад
The Mondeo is a good car but you are mistaken. A similar spec, age and mileage Accord holds its value much better than the Ford. Build quality has to go to the Passat, to drive to BMW and for value maybe the Mondeo. However book price of the Accord looked high all dealers offered huge discounts from new. Not knocking your review just thought it was a little harsh and some comments like the spec should have reflected the particular model under review.

Spot on, but even build, I’d give it to the Honda. Passat’s have issues with corrosion after a few years and with the benefit of writing this in 2019, this looks so much better than Passats, Mondeos or Insignias out there.

I came here as I'm looking at a 14-15 edition of this car. Suspension being 3.5 for being too hard? I would say only 3.5 for being too soft, but that's the norm for this kind of car in this price range. Let's say there's a lot of subjectivity in it. But putting it below Opel and Ford in terms of 'ownership' (mechanically if I understand correctly) is ver strange as these engines (both diesel and the 2l petrol) are supposed to be quite reliable, also they make awesome manual transmissions, and I haven't ever heard of electric problems being a stereotype for Accords. I read (and heard from friends) about both Ford and Opel engine problems which can be a 10 000 problem in a bad case scenario, perhaps 3-5 000 in a good one, so I must say the experts of this channel were completely wrong in 2013. I know, old story, but still it's supposed to be experts...
