Honda Accord Rear Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly Replacement. In this video I show how I remove and replace the rear wheel bearing and hub assembly on a Honda Accord. You can usually tell when there is a bad wheel bearing because it will make a lot of noise. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2012 Honda Accord SE Sedan. 2008-2012 Accords should be similar. Enjoy!

You can also put the wheel back on temporarily and slowly let the wheel down and the weight of the car would pry that wheel hub off easily. There would be no need for banging....
@stans5270
@stans5270 4 года назад
Just put the 2-3 of the 4 bolts holding in the bearing in, loose to protect the bearing from popping out all the way. You don't want the bearing to pop out and the car to be sitting on the wheel. [or your foot]

Excellent Video. One tip, try using penetrating oil on those hub bolts. PB Blaster is a penetrating oil, WD40 is not. WD stands for Water Displacement. Not that it matters to much on what you are working on. That thing looks brand new. Never in my life have I worked on a car that wasn't all rusted up. Especially after 5 or 6 winters up here.
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 2 года назад
If you look closer you will see it is actually WD-40 Specialist Rust Penetrant spray, not the regular WD-40. I used to live in the rust belt, glad I don't anymore! Thanks for the comment!

Oh I am aware of the conversions lol! BTW, the actual way it is listed in Honda service info: 98.1 N·m (10.0 kgf·m, 72.3 lbf·ft). So even the first listed spec isn't a whole number! 10.0 kgf·m is a whole number but I am not aware of anyone that uses that on cars in the US. Thanks for the comment!

Great video I did mine this afternoon went for a drive and all my traction control lights came on my abs light low tire light, I never removed the speed sensor so I’m kind of puzzled. Thinking I might have a bad sensor now that I replaced the hub?!?!?!
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 4 года назад
Did you use an aftermarket wheel bearing/hub assembly? Two things I would be looking towards if this happened right after an install (and everything was ok before install), either the sensor or wiring was damaged during install or the new wheel bearing does not have the proper ABS magnetic encoder in it (or it is damaged). Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it!

Big Dog5001, can you please make a video with recommendations on Honda's brake caliper replacement? Honda OEM caliper replacement costs a lot of money and there are cheaper alternative aftermarket parts, but almost all of them are rebuilt. Do you think it is safe to use aftermarket calipers? How do you choose which one is good and which one you should never use?

Cylinder 2 and 3. Got a genuine Honda starter put it in. Cleared the codes and did a ckp relearn car runs like new. I have 3 studs that are broken. Those are impossible to put in. Even grinding off half the head still wont go. Do I need to buy a wheel bearing assembly?

The wheel studs can be replaced separately if you want to go that route. A new rear wheel bearing assembly (or front hub assembly) will have them already installed.

The spec was 72.3 foot pounds because the rest of the world runs in metric. 98 Newton Meters is the exact measurement and 72.3 is the conversion.
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 3 года назад
Actually this is what the spec is from the service manual: 12 x 1.5 mm 98.1 N·m (10.0 kgf·m, 72.3 lbf·ft). Not even Nm (which is what they list first) is in a whole number.

I'm guessing the torque spec for the bearing assembly bolts is actually 98 Nm. That converts to 72.3 ft/lbs.
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 5 лет назад
I thought that too, but the spec from Honda for Nm is 98.1 (or technically 98.06). The only round number they give is 10 kgf-m. Who the heck uses kilogram force meter???
@HallStevenson
@HallStevenson 5 лет назад
Hmmm, yeah, not sure that 0.1 add'l Nm is that critical but if they spec 98.1 vs just 98, that's interesting ! Even though the Accord is designed and built in the US, almost everything will be in metric (Nm instead of ft/lbs) from a design standpoint and what they'll publish.

Great video! Replaced both of the bearings in the back of 09 Accord. I didnt have to undue the parking break though, may be a little harder to get out and in but I didnt want to mess it up. Thanks again.
