Honda Africa Twin 6000 Mile Review ~ AltRider CRF1000L Adventure 

I'm an old Harley guy, ridden cruisers for years. My back is so bad these days, I couldn't stay in the saddle of my Softail Custom for longer than 20 minutes without having to get off the bike and give my back a break. Sold the bike last year and thought my riding days were over; really bummed me out bad. Drove my son to the Honda dealer when he was picking up his new CR300F. I never paid much attention to Honda's before, but for some reason the AT caught my eye. I took a seat on it and really like the feel of it. Sale's guy talked me into a test-ride and BAM! A whole new world opened up. Altogether different feel, and the cornering ability and low speed maneuverability just blew me away. Got back to the dealer, got off the bike and when I handed the key back to the sales guy I said, don't lose my key, I have some paper work to fill out before I ride it home. That was just over two weeks ago and I've put almost 400 miles on it already, in spite of all the rain we're getting here in Ohio this Spring. This bike is a dream; the versatility is off the chart, I can take it down roads I would never consider riding my HD on, and the saddle time for me has been multiplied by a factor of at least 3 before I need to hop off and stretch my legs. Sorry Harley, but I found another lover. Hey, thanks for all the great vids, Woodzman, going to add much of what you have done with your bike and steer it towards a sport/touring venue with a dash of "off the beaten path". Would love to do some serious off-road, but the old damaged back wouldn't take kindly to that I'm afraid and I think I'm too old to learn those sorts of new tricks. Anyway, thanks again. Glad to see you happy with my Honda and haven't crashed it . Went down to get one and left with a CTX 700 n as solo weekend duty and kept the DR for crashing around the single track . Thanks for your reviews .

Thanks Woodzman another great video I cant wait for my altrider crash bars to arrive been waiting since january i been told 2 more weeks.

I bouraght a 2018 KTM 1290 SAR and changed the seat to a 2 person seat, taller windshield, top box,skid plate but the best comfort mod I did was get rid of the ridiculously small foot pegs and installed the wider and longer rally pegs. With a size 13 boot it completely changed the riding experience. Why they put those tiny foot pegs on these type of bikes is beyond me. Sweet looking bike you have there.

Commenting to say that your videos inspired me to do a channel focused on me working on my KLR (Africa Twin one day!) and adventuring around the Kimberley region of Australia.

Man, I wish you could have brought your bike out to MMM, it would have been cool to show everyone all your ALT Rider stuff out there. I don't know for sure how many Honda Africa Twins were there but there was several. I think Jeremy would have been proud for you. Good stuff my friend.

You did a nice job with the mods. I too am a fan of AltRider, however, I tired of waiting for a full set of crash bars from them so I cancelled my order and got Touratech crash bars instead. Unfortunately my skid plate from AltRider did not fit with the Touratech crash bars without a little modification. Safe riding!

How’s it going sir, I just took delivery of my Africa twin 5 days ago. You convinced me on getting it. I had a cbr600rr but was really uncomfortable for commuting to work (18 miles) one way. I can’t wait for it to warm up to ride it. Thank you

Looking good. I would suggest looking in to an exhaust. You'll drop a little weight and gain some HP without adding any noise.

Great vid! My AltRider crash bars just shipped yesterday. I also don't plan on changing the silencer...the stock unit is OK.

Those tires look aggressive, Mike, a friend I met up at MMM had them on his bike as well and he agrees, they are wonderful tires. You need to have Jemery send you some foot pegs, since you have some really good tires for offload, you need some foot pegs to match. I think I am going to get the bigger windscreen, it is not tall enough for a long 1000 mile in a day ride. You need Jeremy from Alt Rider to send you the new Gear shifter, It will be a good deal for your bike when shifting as well. Man buddy, that is a great walk around on your bike, I cant wait to see the Alt Rider gear you get from them. Gonna be awesome. Hi, it seems like you are one of the few guys using a TRX7 on a bike. It has caught my attention but I've got a few questions I hope you can answer. I noticed that you haven't used it in the last couple of videos. Do you still like it? How visible is the screen? Bright days, reflections, vibrations, text size? With it being an Android tablet can you use Google Maps for street navigation? Thanks and keep the videos coming!

Good info. I am partial to Altrider crash bars myself and found that you can buy the lower ones with or without the installation bracket. Why would you not need the bracket?? Just curious.

Great film , I got one of these bikes a few weeks back , after six thousand miles your spokes look really good , what do you use on them or is it just a matter of keeping on top of cleaning? I had a crf250 and the spokes look like crap after just a couple of thousand miles. Cheers from England.

Maybe I misunderstood ...are you saying 6k is the first oil change after the st one at 600mi? So 5400miles on the oil? It's everyone's personal choice of course and who even cares what the manufacturers say... I dont like going over 2kmiles on high performance motorcycle oil changes...anyone who buys my old bikes is getting a pampered engine ...just seems wrong not to ...yeah synthetic I get it but I just dont trust doing it ....even the family car our newish mazda says full synthetic yet 3k miles oil change interval ...but a car does not SHARE OIL with engine transmission and wet CLUTCH! Wet clutch just has to be hell on oil ...I mean do what you all want but I have to object...if it is just money then I say use cheaper oil and replace every 2k ...I know people are really funny about this subject and really who can prove anything.... But if you thrash a bike at all? Slip that clutch a lot? I say no way to 6k ish mile oil changes! ....My only caveat would be if one were doing commuter mileage just droning along at 70mph all day long ....THOSE kind of miles I feel fine with going thousands of miles ...the clutch is not involved hardly...otherwise? no way, my brain wont allow it!

Not to trash Altrider, im sure they make quality products, but the welds on my old 650gs Sertao crashbars split off the bar with in the first 3 months. Almost all on advrider that bought the bars returned them, to only of been giving the same exact bars. 100% garbage product. Search it.

I can't afford that Honda Africa so I'll just a used 1985 honda xl 85s

there must be a reason everyone is buying the non dct version.
