18 ATAS myself, picked her up on clearance earlier this year and could not be happier... Love the 30th anniversary paint scheme!

Such a great bike. Enjoy the next 200,000+, probably/mostly maintenance-free miles.

I love my 2018 ATAS ! What a great bike. It has made me a better rider because it’s so capable. Thanks for the review !

Glad if you're enjoying, and thanks for the note. We don't keep bikes for too long in fleet operations, so we'll be curious to know how many miles/years you can get out of yours. What a great bike and value. RIDE on!

Great review! I'm stuck at home because of this shitty Coronavirus and it's refreshing to see someone riding in the wild, freely. Thanks mate.

Daniele, thanks, but what virus? : ) -------- Glad if you enjoyed. Actually, great way to separate ourselves, full-faced helmets creating at least somewhat of a barrier.

I love my 2019 ATAS! Did a 2,200 mi Texas through Mexico trip and loved every mile. It’s not exactly a nimble handler at low speed but that’s to be expected. Also cruise would’ve been nice but not a deal breaker. I like the simplicity…fewer parts to break on a long trip.

Thank You So Much for the great vid and review.....Love the scenery (I'm a SE Washington guy) and your info is helpful as I'm just researching bikes to extend into the adventure riding segment of biking. The Adventure Sports calls to me because even though I'm a street bike rider, I started riding on my older brother's YZ's and other dirt bikes (TT?). Would be great to re-connect with some dirt riding and seems like the AT might be the ticket :-)

The adventure riding community is growing, and the fastest growing segment of motorcycles being sold (according to what we've heard.) So great to have a bike that "does it all," so we'll see you out there! Greetings from Bend.

Great review!! Planning on buying a ATAS shortly and can’t really decide if to go with a low mileage 2019 or a 2020. The 2020 is like 35% more money 🤔 but have some extra features. At the same time I want simplicity and not to many buttons 😂
@RIDEAdventures

Thanks for saying so, and yea, simplicity and $Savings$ are tough to ignore. Either one is a fantastic fun machine, so enjoy what lies ahead : )

@09:23 I laughed so hard when you said that with the grip heater. I have the same problem. When I ride in standing position, I always hit those button unintentionally.🤣🤣🤣
@RIDEAdventures

Can't imagine how they didn't figure that out during original design! It's not even close to being okay/clear : )

@@RIDEAdventures exactly. I own a dct for two years now. The second problem is, sometimes the dct "thinks" they where smarter than you and shifts up in the corner, when you just a split second before had manually shifted down. And sometimes, this bring in a little instability, what is for me a bit discomforting. So, when I want to drive trough the Italian mountain roads, I prefer the total manual shift option. Switch from D to S mode, go from Auto to Manual and then bring it on...that's how I like the atas😍....I really like your videos. Really good work
@RIDEAdventures

@@3h55, thanks for the great feedback. Interesting to know that about the DCT. Honestly, none of us have ever tried it yet. Hundreds (maybe thousands?) of inquiries to rent our Africa Twins in Patagonia, Peru, and here in the U.S./Mexico over the past 4-5 years, and only twice has anyone requested the DCT. And those 2 people wanted that because they have DCT on their own bike at home, and love it. ----- Sounds like it has its high points, but yea, there's something to be said about the goodness of manual transmission still. Thanks for sharing........RIDE on!

@@RIDEAdventures in Germany with have a term for this: nörgeln auf höherem niveau...like: nagging on a high level...i mean i love the dct but sometimes its like: c'mon girl, you don't have to do this (yes, i speak with my bike😅). I have to thank you for your response...and sorry for the grammar, it's not my first language

It would be nice to see a review of the new AT AS 1100. Am thinking the best one is the manual transmisión with a quick shifter and ES. To save some weight. Cheers from Perú.
@RIDEAdventures

In 5 seasons of offering the Africa Twins, we've only had 2 requests for the DCT transmission. (And they were owners of DCT back home, preferring it.) Not sure what that means, but just as info, and yea, we'll have an ATAS 1100 in operation soon to report on. (Last year slowed down fleet expansion, and the Tenere 700 is by far the most requested bike right now.) Thanks for the comment.

Do you have any of the fuel pump/fuel tank debris issues with any of your rentals? Apparently it only impacts the larger tank on the AS trim.
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 3 года назад
Good question, and yes, finally this past July, we had a couple of ATAS's plug-up on a trip. We'd had only Regular AT's for the past 3-4 years until a year into these ATAS's, (about 10,000 miles each) some riders who were very "throttle happy" were not getting fuel through the filter. Fortunately, it's not such a big deal to pop the tank off, clean, and reuse the original filters in the tank. Once you've done it, and with the right tools, it can be done in less than an hour. With 3-4 years on the Regular models though, never had a clog, never had to clean them.

RIDE Adventures Thanks for the response. I am picking up a used ‘19 ATAS with 574 mi. In a few days. I am going to install this filter combo which others said pretty much eliminates the issue. www.guglatech.com/en/prodotto/honda-africa-twin-crf-1000-1100-fuel-pump-mazinga/

Had a 2014 KTM 1190 R, traded it for a 2017 Africa Twin. Too many MTC failures, I just didn't trust the KTM to not leave me high and dry. Love my KTM 500 EXC, the 1190? Not so much.
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 4 года назад
MTC has definitely saved a few hides (mine included) from surprise oil/sand patches on otherwise perfect surfaces. But yea, it can be a distraction otherwise, especially if it's having failures. Glad you enjoy that 500 though. Great bike : )

I have a 2018 ATAS but don't have any off road experience. I may go trial & error or I may go to someone like Rawhide to get some experience. For probably 80/20 maybe 70/30 what tires would you recommend.
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 4 года назад
After about 10 years of heavy use now, we've gotten great results from the Heidenau K60 Scouts, (although yes, some people say they're not as sticky as others when wet. For that, we remind riders that unless they're racing.........) ------The question of what ratio (70/30 for example) also depends a lot on the multiple variables within each side of that ratio (types of pavement/types of off-pavement.) For example, on simple, flat, hard-packed tight gravel & dirt, sometimes a "90/10-ish" pavement-focused tire will have so much contact on the ground that it may perform as well as a more 70/30 tire. Best news is: Every mile & smile you put in out there sampling different tire types, pressures, and terrains, the better you'll have a feeling for which is the best set for your next trip. ----- We've also done videos on whether to Sit or Stand, and had some suggestions on how to approach training courses, so feel free to check those out as well.

I can tell you from my experience with 50/50 off road usage of a 2014 Triumph Tiger 850xc that I had that Shinko 705 tires for use here in Arizona are amazing. They provided the same if not better grip of tires I had been paying twice as much for over the 4 years (39k miles) I owned the bike. They make a more aggressive 805 but as they start to wear they suck on the hwy. Especially at 85+mph (Oh, you mentioned Rawhide so I knew you were somewhat close (I think! 😂) 👍

Did you swap a rear spring being a bit larger than the average bear? 😜 I do know with luggage the rear is a bit soft.
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 3 года назад
Aaron, that's the original suspension, and Eric's like 240lbs at the time of filming. We keep our rental fleet with all stock suspension, until a Customer reservation requests otherwise. --- Yes though, it probably should be swapped out for 240lbs, but is not too bad just by cranking up the preload.

Hey, great video! I am a proud owner of an ATAS myself, I love it! (I also had the old XRV 750 Africa Twin). I wanted to ask you about the headlight guard, where can I get one of those and if it mounts on the original ATAS “crashbar”? The reason I’m asking is because I don’t have the original crashbar anymore (bought an aftermarket one). Thanks!
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 4 года назад
Longhorn Rider, thanks for the great feedback. ---- We're using AltRider hard parts in that video, but you'd have to ask them if their headlight guard will mount on whichever crashbars you have. We use their skidplate in this case, too. Have fun farkling :)

My 2020 ATAS came with Metzeller Karoo Street tires. Do you use those on any of your rental AT’s, or are they insufficient for the dirt?
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 4 года назад
Yep, ours came with the same Metzelers, but we generally take them off right away, as Customers are relying on our rental bikes for more approximately 50/50 dirt/street riding. The Metzelers are ultimately fine in most dry dirt situations as well, especially if hard-packed. But of course the Heidenau K60 Scouts and MotoZ Tractionator GPS's we put on are most appropriate for our routes. --- Thanks for commenting, and RIDE on.

why your ABS and Traction lights is on? Trying to figure out. One bikes is off, your and one I trying to get from neighbor lights is on. How support to be? thanks

On a lot of bikes, the light being "on" indicates that the ABS/TC is "off." Hope that answers the question.

Steve; I had that problem on my 2016 Honda and discovered that the forks were pitted, had them buffed once but pitting continued, had to get new forks at 5,000 miles then the seal problems stopped.

RIDE Adventures I heard at owners are having better luck with kyb seals or Kawasaki seals on their atas, have you heard or tried them? Looking for a permanent fix! Thanks for the reply
@RadimStrnad
@RadimStrnad 4 года назад
Front fork started to leak after 22000km so the sealing has to be replaced. I spent last 2000km in the mud off-road in Romania so I don't blame Honda but rather the mud
@RIDEAdventures
@RIDEAdventures 4 года назад
@@RadimStrnad, of course sometimes we're able to just swipe-out the seal and remove the grit with a plastic piece....and that helps. Neoprene fork booties help overall as well.
