Great video. Of all the driveshafts I've replaced for worn inner joints, I never took one apart to actually inspect for wear because they all had a core charge. Next, let's see one for a worn outer joint!

Had a similar issue with my '05 Element but it would only vibrate from a stop and not at road or highway speeds. Bought this car with one remaufactured axle and one aftermarket. Tried a couple of new aftermarket axles to no avail. Ended up solving the problem with two OEM Honda axles from a scrap yard as a matched pair from one car. My theory being that if the car had a matched pair then this was a car that didn't have axle issues. Note: At risk, I also bought an unmatched OEM pair from LKQ and these worked fine too and these are the set on the car now. The pair from the scrap yard are my "backup" pair.

Take my advice and rebuild the factory CV axle. I bought cheap aftermarket ones from ebay and rock auto. 2 new sets and 3 of the 4 were faulty. I had thrown my original ones in the trash. Ended up going to Napa and got a decent set but still have a slight vibration. I have an 09 ridgeline and replaced the rotors, inner and outer tie rods, struts and lower control arms before I realized the new axles were junk.

Yes this can happen for sure although not many are qualified to rebuild them themselves. There’s some decent aftermarket ones out there for a fraction of the cost.

Tangent incoming, so I had to replace my passenger front CV axle in my 2017 Ridgeline. I wanted to go with OEM but they are backorder so I went with aftermarket as there was slight seepage from the axle seal Well after 1.5 years the Aftermarket is toast, boot is split grease everywhere ( to be honest there was no clicking or 'weird vibration' I'm at 185K miles there will be some age ) saw the mess when I changed the oil. It has to have been fresh since the grease was still shiny. Tried to order an OEM online from hondapart, honda college, and Hondadirect backordered; in fact, hondadirect showed in stock so I put in an order, but after a few days they canceled my order due to backorder. Went to the dealer it was still backordered plus they want me to pre-pay 400$ for no ETA! I figured aftermarket would last for a year or two before I could order OEMs, had I known this chaos I would have had the OEMs rebuilt
@tonyisme4934
@tonyisme4934 Месяц назад
If rebuilding / reboot & re-grease you have to mark exactly all the parts how they came off the spline and they have to go back on exactly the same way. I use Super Met-al white parts marker ink. Or white meanstreak sharpie. Maintains the balance. This in honda shop manual
@tonyisme4934

@@hukmaiI had this problem already on a Toyota 4Runner buying aftermarket axles. The rubber boots only lasted maybe 2 years. But the joints are still good no clicking and no vibration is it possible to order maybe OEM boots and try to rebuild using OEM real rubber boots and not the cheap rubber boots of the aftermarket axles. Also Beck Arnley brand might sell boots
@tbskirk

Just replace my driver side axle because it was clicking like mad only when I was going around a corner and accelerating. The boot was fine so I guess you're right they just kind of wear out over time

Yep lots of times the grease just thickened up and/or the joint itself is just worn out and the boots are fine.

On my wife's 2005 Accord they were making a growling noise that got noticeably loud. The local dealership service manager is really good about getting deals on parts, but both OEM axles installed still cost over $1,000 with a discount on the parts. Aftermarket axles are a lot less expensive, and the dealership has tried some at customer's requests, but found that they often had issues so they stopped doing it. That cup and bearing shouldn't cost too much, but Honda charges crazy money for a lot of their replacement parts. A boot strap kit is inexpensive, and good moly grease doesn't cost much, so changing the grease can be done for a very reasonable price. It's not difficult - just a bit messy. If you're doing your own work, consider it as a maintenance item.

Hi i have 2005 honda pilot. i used to have aftermarket cv axle had no issues because boot is broken , i went with OEM on both side. i am having vibration issue at steering at 20 mph NOT while accelerating only at cruising at 20 mph .. momemt i accellerate vibration goes away... i dont know if this cv axle . i do see a play on passenger side cv axle. in and out.. not up and down. question. 1. does in and out play is normal, i assume up and down is not normal. 2. can i assume if virbation doesnt come on acceleration then it is not a cv axle issue 3. based on my symptoms do u think if this is cv axle or something else.. 4. Not sure if intermeidate shaft will cause this issue. much appreciated. thanks in advance. rest all like sway bar busing, control arm, struts they are pretty much new.. i am feeling this symptom after replacing OEM cv axle , weared part of it. just want to run it with you that i am not missing anything like drive shaft etc.

The issue is the inner or inborard shaft cup pits just where those 3 bearings ride... Another issue is the stands in which the bearings sit on, the 3 prongs which hold the bearings can also het worn down too... causing play in the inboard end of the axle...so during acceleration the cv rod isn't centered anymore which causes vibration...One thing that accelerated this wear and tear is the absence of the dynamic dampner...and as you can see, this cv axle in this video doesn't have one.

I just bought today a 2007 Honda Civic Type R and it has a vibration issue when I go full throttle and it gets progressively worse at speeds of 70mph+. I think the severe vibration was present when I tried coasting at around 100mph with the clutch depressed, I'm gonna try tomorrow again to verify. Do you think it's the driveshafts that are the cause even if it the vibration is present when coasting? I can't feel the issue or it's not that bad when speeds are below 60mph.

sent an IG message related...! I just bought a 2009 Ridgeline with 163k miles and the vibration happens around 60mph and above... not really a steering wheel shake but more of an intense humming vibration... had the wheels balanced today and it's better BUT has not solved the problem. manager at tireshop mentioned they've replaced rear driveshafts on Pilots (same platform as Ridgeline). acceleration, cruising and slowing down above 60mph is when it happens and low speeds, under 40mph are smooth. thoughts? going to take to an independent (Honda/Acura) shop tomorrow as my dealer that did the pre-purchase inspection can't fit it in tomorrow
@BCautosolutions

One way to isolate the rear from the front is to removed the driveshaft and test drive it. Where the tires road force balanced or just high speed balance? Are the wheels true and not bent? Is there fix a flat in the wheels?

@@BCautosolutions sorry for late reply BUT.... yes, the wheels have been road-forced balanced AND one of the wheels was bent (wheel shop straightened it)... had the rear propeller shaft (drive shaft) looked at and the center carrier bearing was on it's way out... and the front u-joint was pretty notchy but rear u-joint wasn't AS notchy but still had knots in it... unsure if there's any fix-a-flat BUT tireshop told me tires are dated 2019 so may be time to get new ones even though lots of tread left (Michelin Defenders)... noise is noticeable after all this BUT not nearly as bad and not much of a vibration... maybe tire time! you should be in the Boston area so I could bring to you!

I have replaced worn axles hundreds of times for a steering vibration and I have confirmed this hundred of times.

I have vibration on speed 35-45 mph in case of switching gears(2-to-3, or 3-to-4) on 1500-2000rpm, replaced both axles assembled. It didn't help 😞 If I push gas pedal above 2000-2100 RPM It doesn't have any vibration on switching gears(2-to-3, or 3-to-4)

Chances are it’s the inner joints in the axles like this. First place I would look 👍🏻. Report back when your issue has been fixed and congrats on your purchase. Love the cross tour!

60-70 vibration usually is tires needing balancing they come in and out of phase where they cancel the vibration out or amplify it drastically. There is a Honda service news/bulletin all about vibration "excessive steering wheel shimmy or chassis vibration" that can be found online that details numerous scenarios that it could be. I highly recommend anyone with a Honda and vibration to thoroughly read it for insight on this.

@@brogren802 if it’s only under acceleration it’s not the tires, it’s 100% drivetrain related.

@@brogren802 I got the issue fixed already, took it to Honda and they replaced both Axles( I had warranty so that was a relief). The reason I I said 60-70 under acceleration was because I didn't put it pass 70, the shaking was horrible and felt like it was wobbling all over the place. They realigned it after the instal and good as new again. Tires are still the same, no issue there.

@@MarkAnthony-rb7fp I have the same issue 2011 accord v6. Only shakes from 60 - 70 mph. My mechanic told me it was torque converter slipping but I have been driving it like this for almost a year with no check engine light wish I could figure it out

Hi I have a 2006 honda accord with 302,000 miles. Ive been having this car for 8 years. The check engine light is on because of the oxygen sensors. Very common. What I have noticed lately is that when I am driving at a normal speed let's say 40 mph doing doordash, my car starts shaking from the front and then goes away when I let go of the accelerator and doesn't do it again when I accelerate. What could that be?
