Bonus video this week! I had a special request to do a video on how the tilt and trim functions work on the B100. It was a quick and easy video to make, so enjoy this extra episode!
Hey! Did you know that you can push and rotate the preset pin handle 180 degrees (upward) and the lock lever will just fall straight so you don't need another hand to make it straight to pull through the preset hole. This is a fancy little weighted design.
On most of them, yes...this one was either purposely filed down, or the weight, was just worn down so it flopped to either side. But you are correct! Good tip!
Tanks so much for the vid man! I have one question, is there a way to tilt the motor back down in the water? I know now that you have to adjust the locking lever and set it to fit the Chanel you want it in so the motor can tilt all the way down, but how would you do that from inside a boat?
Yeah, no easy way...gotta reach down and pull that out of the channel and let it down slowly without pinching fingers. Once it is past that middle setting, you can let it down with your fingers out of the way.
Google searched...should be able to find it here by the model number located on the top of the mount, under the lower front engine cowl- www.iboats.com/shop/basics/serial-number-year
3:21 thats only because you try to untilt it by moving the metal bar with your fingers. But your fingers can get squished so is very dangerous and difficult to do. When youre in the boat, youre supposed to lift the motor by the cover handle then use the locking lever you touched at 0:31 to move the metal bar lock thing.
When you are in the boat rolling with the waves, you can't be bending over the transom while at the same time lifting the cover and using your finger to slide the lock lever to the long slot to get the motor in running position. It is supposed to slide to the proper slot when the cover is lifted and then move the slide handle to run. On my Honda 8.5 HP which is mechanically identical to this motor, the rod fails to slide to the long slot like it used when it was new and gets stuck in one of the shorter slots. Any suggestions other than replacing the tilt link you removed and re-inserted?
Typically wouldn't need to tilt the motor up or down when out on the water. When I had this engine and dinghy, I only tilted the motor out of the water after being tied to the dock, or boat on trailer. The link that I removed and reinserted is the preset trim...which, once set properly, would never be adjusted because it is set for the particular boat the engine is on. I hope I'm understanding your comment correctly. Thanks!
@@WiscoBoater When the motor was new, I always tilted the motor out on the water to avoid dragging it in the water. You indicated that at the dock with the outboard tilted, when you went out again and set the motor to running position, did you have to use your finger to get that locking rod in the proper slot or did it got to the correct slot by itself? I was looking at the assembly drawing and there is a horizontal "tilt rod" with a spring, however the spring is no longer available. I wonder if that spring is too weak now and not seating the locking rod correctly, but cannot tell because the Honda drawing does not show the vertical part that falls in the slot.
@@alfonsohernandez41 Ah, I see what you're saying now. Mine did not have a spring either, and I did have to use my fingers to release that rod. Never liked doing that...I don't know if mine ever had a spring. Didn't have the engine long enough.
Hi. Im from brasil, poor english. Can gelo Me? Same engine i have , i Need to charge a batery with the output from the side. I measure 9v on idle and 23v At high rpm DC. I need tu put a (retificator ?) to stabilize 12/14v Cc to put a batery. What motorcicle piece is compatibile tô me ?
@@WiscoBoaterI know this is an older video, but the one thing I heard was to lock your motor while in the run position. But with my experience you should leave your motor in the "unlocked" position while the boat is going. This is to prevent damage to the lower unit or undo stress on your transom should you hit a stomp or if your motor hits the bottom. In the unlocked position the motor will simple pop up when it hits something.
@@stevencartlidge6574If you leave it unlocked and need reverse, the motor will pop right out of the water. Always lock it down…never leave yourself without the option of reverse.
