@MrBobbyloc Yes, you should clean it. My Civic runs Great now. If you have the Rotary IACV, it's easy to check if it's stuck. You can easily remove the Solenoid with a long Philips screwdriver. Then you can access the shaft. If it doesn't twist freely, then it needs cleaning. With the car running, you can play with the idle if you want 2 b sure. Just turn the shaft slightly to see if you get steady idle.You can test the Ω on the Solenoid(3 Term). Put probe in #2. Test #1 and then #3.16-26Ω each.
The critical part of this clip is the shaft that the poster is turning. If it doesn't turn freely or is binding, it ain't normal. I watched this clip more closely and redid mine (same model) a 2nd time. My shaft was frozen - I wouldn't have known the 1st time since I didn't take off the sensor with the 2 screws. Hit it a bunch with carb cleaner and the hunting idle is gone plus the idle is much smoother. I didn't have to remove the throttle body-you can get to the IACV with the air housing out.
Have described already how to get them out it's hard I know but if you use ratchet instead of screw driver and just tips of philips screw driver those one u can buy in set of different sizes will make the job easy. good luck
This help me out alot and was easy to do. My idle was stuck reving high and it was just dirty. My mechanic said I had to buy a new idle air control valve save me $200 bucks. Not hard at all thx
@jeepbme Hi there You are perfectly right it's hard job ,just use ratchet with the extension and some small socket like 4-5 mm that holds good the screw driver bits get the one that will fit perfectly the screw and it will go like a dream :) I'll try to make a video later.
Hi there in my case it worked so You can try because is easy to do by yourself. sometimes the throttle body can be stiff try to clean it up and make it opening smooth if it will be possible. Try to change the TPS sensor as well and see the difference just borrow one from someone got honda, accord 2.2 is ok they the same. cheers
? That valve that you're cleaning is not the fast idle thermo valve? Are the IACV's in different places on OBD1 and 2? I thought the Si still had the IACV on the back of the intake manifold?
Yes the worst part is screws in plastic but just do it with ratchet and small socket that you can insert some of this little screw driver tips that they sell in sets.
dude its a youtube video.... its free... shit.... heres the BEST tip i can give you, go to autozone and purchase a Haynes manual for your model year, and make of car. this manual will tell you how to locate, remove, and reinstall every part of your engine (excluding internals) ! its how i learned all i know. very imformative!
I know this is 4 months later but here is the dx for a hunting idel. First, bleed the radiator system, check for vac leaks, after that is iacv, and last is tps. Disregard any of these steps if u have a check engine light fix that first
+Guitar Dave See fuel filter,fuel pump,spark leads,or some cracked vacume line.I would go first for fuel filter and change it,TPS sensor depands what car is it.
I found it , it's a 93 Eagle Summit that had poor First Gear take off , I put it on the Highway and just Ran it , and that's what it needed was to really be ran good . It had sat up for 2 to 3 years . I thank you for your help .
Does the shaft mate with a cam or something inside the sensor housing (the plastic thingey held on by the 2 screws). BTW...thanks much--exactly like my Civic's...idle hell.
Incase anyone sees this in the future, non chlorinated brake cleaner or sensor cleaner would be best to use to spray this application clean. As for description, I don’t believe the person whom made this spoke english
So much easier to remove the 4 bolts of the throttle body..don't attempt without removing the TB..of course I couldn't get one of the screws out of plastic motor housing on the control, one of the philips was so tight the screw head just stripped. Cleaned as much as i could..the problem now happens before the car warms up. Time for a new IACV..I tried.
I don't know how many times youve already taken this apart to clean it but anyone whose worked on one of these knows they don't come apart that easy. The screw especially holding the sensor on the iacv is welding up it seems. Cleaning is the easy part, the tutorial should be how to get the fucking bolts and screws out.
would be nice if you explained how to LOCATE the IACV and then explain in detail what you are doing with each part so that we can learn the part NAMES so that when we talk to ourselves; we know what we are talking about and when we answer ourselves we won't feel crazy
Ive got a hunting idle on my EK civic after warm up. My IACV is identicle to yours and ive cleaned it out but still have the hunting idle problem. Any ideas? thanks
I just thought that the one being cleaned was the fitv and not the iacv. The iacv sits beside the intake manifold while the fitv is right under the throttle body.
Adam, I have a 1999 Honda civic that until lately runs great except that it dies occasionally when driving (not idling ) Took to the shop it ran perfectly. no problems starting, they drove it off and on for 15 miles over 48 hrs no errors in computer, nothing. I pick it up and it dies on me 5 times going to the store. WTH !
+steve Zweifel I have a similar problem on my '05 VW GTI where it would die out occasionally while driving. I think it's actually my fuel pump acting up on my car, but I believe what your problem may be is what's referred to as the Crank(shaft) position sensor, impulse or speed sensor. Good luck!
steve Zweifel my dad's Express van does the weirdest shit if you leave the headlights on you can turn it off and pull the key out and it will still drive and if you use the indicator to turn right the passengers window will roll all the way down so we disconnected the passengers side window and we have to turn off the lights in order to shut off the Engine... We bought it off Craigslist it's a work van :/ ... Craigslist
Steve, does your check engine light come on then go away when it happens? Mine gave me code 15. Does the car start right up or does it not start after that? Mine would start sometimes.. I have a 95 civic and it would randomly die(engine shut off while driving). It had no particular pattern. It had this problem for like a year or so. Some said it could be ignitor or ignition coil. Turns out it was a bad ICM, Ignition Control Module in the distributor. Used icm from junkyard cost me $4 & it took about 30 min to remove icm from inside distributor. Car never had that problem again.. hope this helps.
I did this and it fixed my idle problem. But after driving for 15 mins, the check engine light came on and it started driving really choppy- like it wasnt getting enough fuel. When i put it in neutral and open the throttle by hand (or with the pedal), it is not smooth, causing the engine to bounce when it rapidly fluctuates rpms. Any ideas?
@@amalik456456 after i cleaned it, i got the engine hot and the idle problem went away. So i drove it for 15 minutes and then all of a sudden that light came on and the choppiness started. You think that iac valve needs to be replaced? it wasnt broken before i cleaned it....:S
HELP GUYS!, i need to know some things,im looking at buying a 98 integra gsr but it idles weird and the check engine light is on and the guy whos selling it says it needs a new (idle air control valve) it revs up a couple hundred then drops back down in the rpms,but the car pulls good,it also needs oxygen sensors,is this a big deal,could i end up getting into big money? thanks

Assaulter Probably something like gumout. i used carb/throttle body cleaner. it worked like a charm to remove the black deposits. for the coolant side, i used a screwdriver to remove any calcium buildup.... Never let friends put non distilled water in the radiator!
