@@luisurrutia7344 if you're still having a problem with surging idle then here's a recommendation you really won't find anywhere. The two screws that hold the electronic sensor to the IAC valve, sometimes they allow air to pass through where they are seated. Get yourself some gasket maker and apply to the heads of the screws. This fixed my surging idle. Be sure to burp the car if you replaced coolant also as this can cause hunting idle problems.

You know coolant runs through this iacv, so make sure your radiator is not rusty and clogging iacv with rust fragments. A way to check for rust is to remove coolant reservoir and tilt as you look inside the bottom. If you see dirt or rust, replace radiator as you clean and replace iacv gasket with oem one (very cheap). Bleed radiator of any air. IF that doesn't fix idle problems, then replace iacv valve.

Please help me DIY Auto Repair. I've got a 1999 Civic that is starting to drive me nuts... A few weeks ago it wouldn't start, so I had it towed to a shop and two days later it was ready... The guy from the shop told me that it had been the distributor (some parts were out of place...) and that no parts were necessary, just some re-adjusting... When I got a chance to open the hood, I found out that the throttle cable had been tightened somewhat... I noticed right away that the car was idling a little lower than usual, but since it drove fine, I didn't make a big a big fuss about it... Anyway, it would always start with a low rpm, but it would go back to normal shortly after, when I would coast or stop. However, a few days later, when I went for a drive and sped quite a bit on an open road, the car's idle has changed significantly... It idles at around 1500 rpm when coasting until I come to a full stop, after which the idle drops to 1200 rpm... On cold starts, it revs up to 2000 rpm, but gradually drops down to 1200 rpm, so I guess the IACV is ok... I've checked the spark plugs which have about 12000 kms on them and look almost new, I've tried readjusting the throttle cable, but to no avail, cleaned the throttle body, searched for any hose with damage, trying to find a vacuum leak with water, I also tried troubleshooting as in the shop manual, where you cover the lower port of the throttle body, where it states if you cover it and there is no change in the idle, then you have a vacuum leak and there is no change to the idle when I cover it... However, if I cover the air inlet tube to the air filter, it makes what seems to be a suction noise... When I have the air inlet removed and stop the engine, a strange noise comes from the throttle body, like two or three hisses... Does this mean I have a vacuum leak? Sorry for the long post... Thanks in advance.

@HOLYHOUSE

Yes. Take both bolts off. Then take the electrical connector off first. This will give you better access to the driver side hose. Then get needle nose pliers and spin the hose clamps around so you can get a better bite on the clamp. Pinch the driver side clamp with the needle nose pliers and slide it down the hose past the hose barb. Grip the hose at the hose barb and work it down off the barb. Then do the same for the passenger side hose.

Good video but probably not a good idea to attempt to spray it still connected as the spray can enter the (black end) motor part of the IACV damaging the unit. Better to disassemble completely, hold vertically so that the black motor is upward so when spray (use straw) to clean -- the spray doesn't go upwards into the black motor area

Rosa Nieto a lot deals with idle, from the iacv, map sensor, throttle position sensor possibly the knock sensor and if not any of that it could be intake manifold gasket or a vacuum leak which is one of the hoses.

I feel like it depends how he was trained. Some mechanics dont take shortcuts and follow the manuals to the T. As an aircraft mechanic, i see some jobs with steps that i feel are needless , but they are steps i have to take according to the manual. iE. Everyone tells this guy not to drain the coolant.

This misguided me. This is not the IAC valve. This is the IAC sensor. The IAC valve is located on the other side of the throttle body and has one hose going into it. You should probably clean both but the valve is usually the bigger issue (actual valve may require disassembly or replacement). Also, when cleaning this part (sensor), you should spray throttle body cleaner into the pipes (where hoses connect). I recommend removing the part and doing this in a well lit place with adequate space. I also do not recommend replacing this part unless absolutely necessary, as cars can be finicky about the replacement. The valve is usually fine to replace... the sensor, better to clean.

you were misguided by whoever gave you that info. That is the Idle Air Control Valve he replaced. The one on the bottom is the Fast Idle Valve. Used for cold starts to warm up the engine quicker.

I changed mine on my 95 honda accord. Bought a new idle control valve with lifetime warranty. I still have high revs when I turn. Anyone know what else can be the issue?

Yes air in your coolant and or a sticky dirty throttle body thoe even vacuum leaks can cause that.
