Indeed you are correct but saying that some drivers of hot hatchbacks are over 20 years old and aren't fans off big wings and supermarket car parks yet they still want sporty type drives but with comfortable quality interiors.
@@markrhoden68 many or these have been sold to much old customers, 50, 60, 70's!! No everyone wants to buy a car that nobody looks at twice because it's so understated. The interior is fairly decent and ride quality is better than anything German. Go drive one
@@davidkelly2542 I did drive one and as you said great drive but come on the interior is not on par with German high end cars that simply isn't true. Come on everyone talks about its looks that not because they have some personal issue with the car its because it is so over the top, everywhere you look there's a Golf r or an RS3 etc not a type r and the German cars cost a lot more so why is it so many Golf Rs are sold and not the type r? People who can afford to spend this type of money on a performance hatchback don't want scratchy plastic interiors vulgar looks and race car ride everyday yes they want fast but not all the time
@@markrhoden68 but not everyone thinks it's vulgar. I have also driven the Type R and it's epic, the interior is as superb as the seats. Yes you are correct re everyone drives a Golf R, that's why when a Type R appears, it has prescence, no one takes any notice of a golf, a dime a dozen and no where as exclusive. I've had my Sonic grey RS for just over three years and even now people still come up to me and remark on it.
@@akie64 hey don't get me wrong I get its following and I get people like a car for different reasons but like I said I just don't get all the wings and bright colours etc stc but im 51 and a lot more reserved than when I was 20 driving a 205 GTi.
Looks like the Limited Edition is the real deal. The FK8 may represent the end of an era of pure Hondas, as the next gen Type R (if there is one) may be subject to Honda's electrification goals, may be heavier, etc. Since 2017, there has been a growing recognition of the engineering marvel the FK8 is. The FK8 Limited Edition is positioned to become revered as the Integra Type R is today about 10 years from now. I remember when the S2000 Club Racer was released in the US. Many exmples sat a dealers collecting dust because Honda was ahead of its time and people did not yet recognize how good the car really was out of the box (and people got stuck on how the CR looked aesthetically). Now look at how desireable s2000 CRs are today and the significant price premium it commands. I hope at least some Limited Editions get driven on track as Honda intended. Honda's genius tends to creep up once in a while, giving us something truly special. This is one of those times. Seize it!
Go and do it even if you're not going to buy one just test drive it for the fun i'm owner Civic Type-R from 2007 And it puts a great big smile on my face every time I drive it, ok fan every incarnation of the Civic Type-R and they're all great in their own ways, the latest one is a bit more grown up but you can still take your family out and it but decent boot space as well even though the people moan about the spoilers they're actually functional2👍
I just got to drive my dad's new 2021 Type R as a birthday gift from him 2 weeks ago 😂❤️ Man was it the best thing ever. You definitely need to find a way to get 1 drive in. You will not regret it man. Once you shift to 2nd, just punch that baby to like 5rpm and then shift to 3rd and then punch again. It's just phenomenal 🙏🔥
do it bro, i driven 2 now one 2018 and another last month, i ordered one 3 weeks ago , got to wait till may june next year, be quick to order one before too late...
Good review I'm very jealous you got to drive the limited edition, I own a an old Civic Type R gt a great big smile on my face every time I drive it and I've driven every Civic Type-R in carnation and they're all great in their own way, people who moan about the looks and the spoilers and events they are actually functional Honda don't do things for the sake of it unless it's some sort of expression which this car is it's not a boring rep mobile. There's not many cars that you can take out to a track and embarrass most sports cars and some super cars in corners and still take your family out shopping, the fact that you can't completely configure the driving modes is not really a big quibble it's either suitable for the road, lanes or the track which is what it was designed for very well by the Honda engineers. They have to be celebrated as these type of cars are going to disappear soon
Excellent review of The Type "R". I just bought the 2021 in boost blue pearl, and I still have to wait a few days for the carbon kit, etc. to be installed. I can't wait to give it a test run.
Great review. Absolutely stunning cars, I bought one for my 40th and absolutely love it! Fast, practical, cheap to run, an absolute blast on the b roads. For the money there is no better hot hatch.
Looks brilliant would like to see a comparison of the ek9, Ep3, fn2 Mugen, fk2 and the limited edition FK8 type R on track and B roads comparison test.
I have 2021 Type-R and upgraded from 2020 Honda Civic Sport. The Type- R is super fast and cuts corners like a champ and every time I drive it it just asks to go faster.
Every time I circle back on buying a type R there something happens to dampen my enthusiasm. First it was the 10K markup here in the US. When I first heard of the sport version it was yes finally a car that I want ! No garish wing and kidney jarring 20” rims. But for a additional $2700 for the sport Honda has seemed to find another way to disappoint. Life’s not going to end , I still have my ‘91 NSX
Drove a pre facelift Type R on mixed roads without taking it out of R+ mode, personally I don't see it as anything the average person couldn't live with on a day to day basis. I've driven more firmly suspended faux by 4's!
Hi really like the type r special edition. Already waiting for my special edition. How was the drive ? The color and style? Does the yellow looks amazing?
the practicality thing is massive. it makes it far easier to convince your spouse that this is the most practical hatchback you can buy. look it has isofix BWAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!!!! sototoh, Braaaaaaaaam!! neeeeeeeeeeh neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh Nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawm
“You would sometimes drive in sport mode but most of the times in comfort mode...” Really? If you buy a Type R you buy it for a good reason, which is enjoy the +R mode!! Else you better buy a 1.5 Turbo model.
the dont allow to chose different drive mode because it can be dangerous in some situation. honda does think of all possble outcome and income of what the car should offer people. sure u can have a soft suspansion and race transmition. but if it comes around a danger. car could go sideways if its twoo soft can role over.
I know the Type R is a great car but the styling is....different! Why do they not make such a great car just a little more orthodox in looks to attract those of us who appreciate it but for whom its ridiculous styling is just silly and puts it out of the running as a potential purchase. Loved the Original first Type R. after that it all went very silly IMHO
As a Honda fan, i am sorry to say that i just can not warm to the present generation of the Honda Civic Type R. I understand that the Smelly Thunberg's of the world are killing the fun of motoring BUT this car has lost its charm, it's slim and menacing design. It looks too big and bulky. Also keep an eye out for the 2021/2022 version... It seems to be a very lazy redesign of the present generation. Honda is loosing its way in the Hot hatch division i feel.
I understand what you're saying about size, compare the FK8 to EP3, it's a lot bigger. However, the chassis was designed from day one to be a Type R and this shows in its road and track manners. It's a very serious machine rather than a buzzing, revvy hatch.
The year is 2020, not 2021. When this car hits the classifieds next year, it will also be sold as a 2020...... because that is what it is. Funnily enough, you did the same with the McLaren piece on the 'other' channel. Please don't resort to this pathetic American marketing BS practice of allocating future years to currently available cars - you're better than that.
Fantastic car ... BUT ... looks like it was designed by a 9 year old it's Quasimodo ugly, the worst part is the front seats don't match the back ones .. seriously wtf 32 grad car and Honda can't make the seats match ..
