Seán O'Nilbud It’s because the screen on the Audi has nearly no bezels, and it has no buttons on the screens itself. The i30 has fat bezels for the buttons, which means he said it will age badly, not ugly.
My Leon FR 2.0tdi 150 Manual is in that colour (well the prefacelift blue). Absolutely love this car; best handling and looking car on the market for the price. Never get tired of driving it.
I changed from Leon to Civic in 2018. I loved my Leon but the Civic is something else. It has a totally different feel and it is a cracking drive. I got it in black so all the weird grills disappear. The touchscreen is no problem, as responsive as you need it to be and the sat nav is far better than the leon (unless it changed after 2015). All in all I'm well chuffed, I might go for a type R next time!
I got a civic sport 1.5 turbo and I love it can’t imagine owning the other two. So comfy to drive yet it has so much grip. The CVT gearbox makes it so smooth without sacrificing speed either.
Can you plan a drag race (standing + rolling start) with the Hyundai i30 N Performance vs Peugeot 308 GTI vs Golf GTI Performance vs Ford Focus ST ? That would be brilliant
SkizomanX Maybe a non-Performance i30 is more closely matched to these cars (247hp vs the performance making 272hp). Or maybe a clubsport Gti would compete better with these cars as they stand. I just feel like a Gti PP making 245hp is a little underpowered, but then again, VW does love to underrate their numbers.
No, because don't forget that the i30 N is the heaviest, and on paper those 4 are quite close. The GTI clubsport is not sold anymore (but yes that would be intersting too). Like you said, VW underrate their numbers. Anyway, I hope that Carwow will do that ^^ !
drag races are dumb, lap times tell much more about a car in the german press the 308 gti just beat the Golf GTI Performance (again) and the i30N 308 gti = most underrated car
A lot of people are interested about pure performance, and since Carwow doesn't do laptimes... so there is nothing stupid about it since straightline speed is also a factor to get better laptimes. Those cars are not only made for racetracks...in fact those are more of dailydrivers than track cars.
test data from autobild sportscars (german press) 1/18: Hyunndai: quartermile: 14,22 s, 0-200 kph: 22,4 s, 100-0 kph 33,8 m laptime with base street tires 1:42:68 Peugeot: quartermile: 14,30 s, 0-200 kph: 22,0 s, 100-0 kph 33,1 m laptime with base street tires 1:41:14 VW: quartermile: 14,60 s, 0-200 kph: 22,8 s, 100-0 kph 34,8 m laptime with base street tires 1:43:66
Finally! A correct outcome from a comparison review. VAG won't be happy but it's about time people looked beyond their so called reputation. Honda looks class all rounder (apart from rear!)
I didn't like the Civic before, but these 2018/2019 models have won me over for both exterior and interior. It's gorgeous! I'd have it in the 1.5L turbo though.
I really like the new Civic design, however I can see why some don't and think it's 'over-designed' so to speak. But you know you're getting a very reliable and performing car from Honda.
CyclingDaz I like the new one, it looks the best since the 90s, but still, its still looks like a 15-year-old with a Halford's club card designed it. Says more about me and my age I think. at my age, I just couldn't own it. Though out of theses, id gets an Octavia I think it's a little nicer in vrs trim over the Leon fr trim. Admittedly the vrs is a few grand more, but so would be the trim of all the cars featured. I'd get the 184 diesel in the Fr trim in estate form. which is cheaper by about 1k over the diesel vrs. Same car, different frock. So it would come down to looks. Also, the seat drives a little better than the Octavia, it's not only sportier it's less harsh. seat has done a good job in the Leon fr. Though I've only driven the 184 Leon fr st back to back with the 180 Octavia vrs estate. I went in to test drive the petrol vrs, 230 iirc, but also took out the diesel. And as seat was nextdoor I took out the sister car the leon st fr diesel. So my decision is two fold, petrol over diesel.1.is the extra grunt ,and less noise worth the mpg hit , about an average 27mpg vs 38mph in the deisel . If the answer is no, the the 2nd question then is do I then save the 1k plus and get the Leon. Its just as good , if better in some ways , except looks imo. I've written far too much . if you got here, hello, all the best and happy new year .
I can fully agree with both of you and I'd consider myself young at 25. I'd rather get a Mazda 3, especiallythe upcoming one if it's true to the concept.
@@KaneTheMessiah I have talked to a Mazda salesman and he told me that the new 3 will indeed look very similar to the Kai Concept. Interior will not have that widescreen infotainment like in the pictures but it wil be 8.8 inches. If so, i'll probably order it next year.
I'd go for the Seat, whilst it follows the german recipe of literally EVERYTHING that's nice being an added option, it is the nicest and the most sleek car
Sleek = refined and timeless and class, tacky and overdone ages bad and looks cheap, ecxample, 8th gen Civic hatch and Hyundai Veloster and no doubt this civic too.
Surprisingly the FR does 0-100km/h in 8s, making it as quick as my 2013 Toyota Auris 1.8 Hybrid (it too does it in 8s flat). That is totally unexpected. I spec'd the Leon FR similarly to my Toyota Auris and the FR will cost me 36k Euro....So it's as fast as a damn Hybrid EV in a straight line, not suited for long trips, only performs well in corners...I'm not so sure about it. Also the FR has totally zero road presence. I got my Auris 1.8 in Pearlwhite (offset white, looks like frosted ice during winter, sparkles during summer), with 19" rims, blacked out roof, blacked out windows, chrome package, the Auris looks totally hardcore. I tried to get a hardcore looking FR, but it just can't happen, it will always look like a cheap car that can't even outrun an Hybrid EV car...for the price, a very bad choice.
Clorex Bleach i have a brand new seat leon fr 17 plate and love it brilliant car everything i need for my little family. Power when needed and i think its a really nice ride and i love how it looks. Top car for me obviously everyone has different opinions and views but i love seats had an ibiza before and loved that too. Cupra next too haha
Own a 2014 leon and overall it's good to live with. The ride is firm around town and a bit bouncy on some badly surfaced B roads but superb on motorways and dual carriageway where you hardly feel bumps at all. The 1.4 turbo is nice. Good for overtaking yet fuel economy varies between 40 and 50. The interior is well made but needs more flair. Lacks wow factor. Overall I like it. But the civic does look interesting and a softer ride would be tempting.
I'm sorry but why is the Honda considered a " compact hatchback"?? That car is longer than a 2014 Mercedes C class! You can absolutely not compare it to a Leon.
The Leon just sucks as a daily driver car. With the Leon, expect a back surgery the next year...you're going to need it...The Civic, even though it is larger, the price is not that much higher.
All cars are growing. Look at the Clio! Though an extreme example, the trend is there, look at all cars, Fiesta, even the current ka is bigger than the first fiesta. It's, not just ford either. Look at the first civic, which looks amazing looking back. You could probably park the original civic im the new one's boot. I once owned a rover 420sli, at the time a quite big car, my current car a GTC, (a 2 door Astra) i noticed in the supermarket is as long and wider than my old rover. Decent car that was, it had the Honda engine
@@slick1908 actually you are right. At the time I wrote this comment I hadn't done any research. The Honda suffers from oil dilution. Japanese cars in general are going down. Some with the CVTs, other with engines. Kia and Hyundai are doing really good and I even have an eye on the Kia Sportage AWD.
I had similar cars to choose. Took the middle ground which is seat. (2019 FR) I did get the ski hatch, the wierdness of the passenger seat is still there (if you want people behind to have room, you wont be able to open the glovebox, they did add a box to store things below the seat tho). The sport suspension you can feel a lot. Sometimes it is annoying. The consuption is very very good. 6 speed manual with 150hp petrol gives me around 5.5 l/100km. It cost me around 23.000 euros due to some added equipment. However, it is a perfect car for young people that enjoy driving and things like that
To be honest I'd get the Civic. My parents have always had Hondas and they're hard to kill. My first car was a 2010 CR-V and it still runs great. I actually like the look of the Seat though, agressive, and I assume the Hyundai is a pretty good car. I also like the comparisons between cars like these, not over the top but still quality. All in all, you guys have one of the best car channels on RU-vid! Keep it up guys
Completely agree with the seat leon FR sporty suspension. As a 1 year owner of a 66 plate, one thing i hate about my car is the comfortability. There is no "comfort mode" so you are stuck with a harsh suspension throughout your experience with the car. You will end up hating the car if like me you do alot of local/ city centre driving. Next car is gonna be either a golf or a class.
I think the Leon FR in its estate form looks the best. If you get the 184bhp diesel, you're getting a cheaper diesel vrs. Edit Back ten months later, next month I'll be taking delivery of the ST FR 2l tsi 190 👍. I still don't like the looks of the model in the video trh 3 door SC and 5 door ST are both better looking to me. I wanted an Octavia vrs estate, but I just couldn't get use to the new front lights the Octavia has, so went with the ST FR 190.
Thankyou. I know these reviews are probably boring to present and produce, but they are the most useful. Buyers of an Audi R8 or a Mercedes E class or whatever aren't going to look at a comparison or review to decide - those people have already made up their minds based on what plastic badge is on the bonnet.
Had the Leon FR great car. Now its a Leon Experience Lux. Bigger boot bigger engine. Extra bells an whistles. The only thing I miss is the driving modes found on the FR.
The Civic sedan is absolutely gorgeous, I’m not a fan of hatchbacks but I’d go with the Civic because of the interior, its newish and slick, its just the back side of the car that is well, not really that attractive.
It is C segment hatchback not a Mercedes S class, Honda interior plastics are the same as in VW golf or in some places even better at least here in Sweden. Plus Civic is really fun to drive :)
@Haris Mak Better plastics? There are many different shapes of the same hard plastic. There're almost no soft ones unlike in the Golf which has the highest quality cabin in the segment (even the door bins are padded).
Seat and hyundai are too common. You see these cars everywhere, boring. Civic is more unique, different and very practical. Ugly plastic trims on rear but i can live with that. You wont see them when you drive LOL
Seat sells like 500 cars in my country per year, same for Skoda.. while in europe Seat and Skodas are fucking everywhere so here is a plus. Well, except when someone says "nice chinese car" or "it looks pretty luxury for a chinese car" - Skoda Superb: i am a joke to you?
albertrll that "Hot hatch soul" is a very bold statement. It's the first try from Hyundai in this car class. And a serious one indeed, it does look good overall. But it has to demonstrate a lot of things still. The Cupra is on it's third generation now. It was a record car in the nurburgring. And released all of the tech that the Hyundai has now. DCC chassis, electronic lsd, Drive modes.... it has 300hp and near 100kg less than the Hyundai. Given that the Hyundai is just being released, I still prefer the Cupra. Some time later on, we'll see how good the Hyundai really is. I hope it will not dissapoint, more competition is always good in this class.
albertrll are you from Spain? Me too haha. The Cupra is not that expensive in reality. The brand's configurator gives an higher price than the one you can get at the dealers. Talking about the performance pack, all the Hyundai features are standard in the Leon without that pack. The Leon's performance pack adds Big brembo brakes and Michelin cup tyres. That's another plus. I did a short test drive in a Cupra 280 dsg without pp, and the car was VERY good. But to be honest, I prefer manual gearbox over faster times. I hope I can do a test drive in the i30N, so I can actually have a real opinion about It. My current car is a Focus st mk2 with mods.
albertrll muy cierto. Y que siga habiendo máquinas así, que ahora con lo eléctrico parece que tienen los días contados. Un saludo y felices fiestas. ;)
I don’t agree RE: the i30’s styling. Here in Aus you can get a model called the SR with a 200hp 1.6-litre turbo petrol and it has 18-inch alloys, a rear diffuser and the dial pipes and it looks much nicer and more unique than the Euro spec model used here.
Hi Mat, I am considering the same Leon with the automatic, but extremely nervous about the reliability of the DSG7, would you you recommend this gearbox in terms of reliability?
Ali Salahat No you are not, I find it it extremely attractive, most people don’t find it ugly, they just say it is because their favorite auto journalists says it is.
Civic -> Seat -> i30. The Civic is more comfy than the i30 and more sporty than the Seat. So why not go for the Civic? Civic also looks way more dope if you prefer the sporty Seat.
But it's by far the most expensive, especially in the highest trim or with the 1.5 liter engine (or both) - it can cost as much as VW Passat and that's just too much.
@@sic22l yes but when the passat is in the bone yard the civic is still fresh. The civic is technically the cheapest of all cars when reliability is factored in
@Getthe cansin It's not. With long warranties and lease plans where people don't keep the cars reliability means less and less. More - Civic had some issues (electronic stuff) even though it's the newest here. Third - japanese cars are traditionally stupidly expensive to maintain and more importantly - repar, at least here in Europe. Old Passat is still much more mature, comfortable and quality car than any Honda.
@@sic22l Ok agreed with some of that but if you're relatively poor like me I still think the honda ,if you keep it beyond warranty, it it still be cheaper. Anyway I've never purchased a car 'in warranty' as they are always at least 5 yrs old at the time. Be nice alright to have a new car in warranty then change after it's up. Thanks for the reply.
And the FAMILY hatch winner is the new Skoda Octavia Hatch in SE Technology spec, with the 1.0 TSI motor, a 6 speed manual and maybe a couple of small extras, for just about 20k gbp.
The new Honda graphics for the 2018 models here in Canada (and I'm assuming the US) are actually the best I would say. It honestly feels like your using a fast android tablet as apposed to a high latency infotainment screen, though I'll agree the older systems are meh.
You may as well stop reviewing Hyundai. Nothing wrong with having an opinion, but your cumulative bias against the brand is glaring in _every_ review now. It speaks volumes when the _only_ Hyundai that impresses you is the i30N, and even then the snide comments get tossed in. It gets old.
theRealAV8r thats what reviewer use for... Its not bias, he just stating facts from car... If you review most of the matt watson car review, most car reviewer mocking honda design..
It's annoying because he doesn't even hide it. Really makes me wonder if some of the reviews in the classes in which Hyundai and Kia compete are realistic.
Fabius Irvan Fabian Abron You can hear over several reviews that he _starts_ with a bias against the brand, then has to be almost grudgingly proven wrong. Pretty much like a lot of people with their old uncle or father's very dated view of Hyundai. Like I say - that is *so* old now. And to be fair, there are other reviewers who are just as biased _for_ Hyundai as he is against, which is also unrealistic. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what reviewers' biases are, over the last decades Hyundai have proven themselves to the entire planet. If they had not, they would have failed out of the car market years ago, not grown to become a top tier brand. No matter how you're financed, if you produce crap people don't buy you'll fail - period. And finally, today in the global mass production market, just freaking pick whichever car you like from the leading brands, because every last one of them will have winners, losers, recalls for part failures etc etc.
I agree, Hyundais might be more expensive comparatively than in the past but you still get way more as standard on, for example, a mid range I30 than a similar level of Golf or Octavia or even the Astra which is a much closer and fairer car to compare it to.
Louie Spence Matt more like Frank Spencer good review though always entertaining and to the point as for the cars depends on your budget i prefer the seat the civic is too brash for me prefer the clean lines of the seat and the engine is superb.
If you take in account the equipment, the extra size and the overal performance and handling, the Civic is worth every penny of the premium. Styling is a matter of taste, but at least it stands out!
I just want to say, after an appealing experience with my previous hyundai i30 I will never buy another, the engine reliability was the worst I have ever had
i know this is an old video now, but looking at getting a mk10 soon so been rewatching. 1 think i never understand is the headroom comment for the civic. when you back your head on the roof, your leaning back over the headrest .. try actually using the headrest. if you extent the headrest into the correct position, like you would on a front seat, then you'd be resting against it whilst in the more upright position where your heads isn't hitting the roof
Trobu Exterior is down to personal taste but the interior doesn't match the Hyundai or the Honda and the entertainment system regularly has problems with freezing, glitching out and it's very slow to start up. It also doesn't have Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
@SICEM_Rex Mazda's interior (especially in the highest trims) is miles above the "cheap plastic showroom" called Honda Civic. Mazda's infotainment system is pretty bad but there's one that's even worse. It's in the Civic.
i have i30 wagon. cant complain. i was honda fan, but after 10th gen civic introduction, i started to look for another car. cant cope with the fugly looks. as for i30 space, its more than enough. its possible to transport 1,80cm logs, office seats and so on :) oh yeah.... at first i was doubtful about hyundai, but when i saw reviews, i decided to give a try. before that i had 2 civics 7th gen, 9th gen civic and audi a4 b7. of course if i had a higher income and more spendable funds, i would go for and audi (its a german enginering!)
lisajason111 yeh was thinking that! Its been cold as shit for a while now so I’m wondering when this video was uploaded..probably a old tape that got lost so someone decided to upload it
I own a Civic 1.5turbo for a week now. I think it has a beautiful nose. But the rear end is a bit awkward. Not really a elegant design. But the interior is very nice, it's very spacious. It sounds good in sport plus trim and is pretty fast and fun when you want it to drive it like a grandma and you'll never notice there is 182 horsepower. It's very quiet in low rpm. The entertainment system is good for me. 🙄 Haven't noticed anything I have a problem with. You can change all the important stuff on your steering wheel.
lot of people complaining about the civic's 1.0L 3 cylinder turbo engine, but it does produce 130hp. Now compare that to something like BMW's 114i with a 1.6L twin turbo engine producing 100hp which is no where near as efficient, and it doesn't seem so bad as an entry level engine.
7:01 not a fan of that load cover design. It’s really thin and has a bit of a gap round it so you can easily hear everything moving/rattling in the boot
vasjakur i think Hyundai concentrated so much on beating the VW Golf in Price/Value ratio, they forgot to be themselves. The other two succeeded, but i'd still buy the i30. For me it's the best value.
Can you please adjust the volume on voice over/non-voice over so that they match better? I keep jumping from around 20% volume all the way up to 80-ish%..
