In this Honda crf 300l vs crf300l rally video I cover the benefits of the 300l vs the 300 Rally.
Having looked at the pros of the Honda CRF 300 Rally in one of my latest videos, I thought it was time to revisit the CRF 300L and discuss the reasosn why you would want to choose this model over the Rally. I also had a blast thrashing about on some local tracks.

I watch because of the beautiful countryside and your a fairly good rider. The compression wipes out the higher production values as well.(:-)

Thanks for the feedback. Always good to hear. Agreed re the compression. The file sizes of videos get huge if I up the quality but it doesn’t always show once uploaded.

After a year you know by heart all the trails near your city, so either you ride again and again the same tracks or you need a trailer attached to your car with the 300L. The Rally is better for exploring far away when you already know all your near area (it will happen soon). In my opinion the suspension is not that terrible to start with and you can upgrade it as you progres to long trips with load or more tech tracks (near or not). Nice video mate.

True, I’m always looking for more tracks. Ive spent all day upgrading parts on the 300L so looking forward to taking it for a ride tomorrow.

I think it all depends on what your riding priorities are and how much you want a ready to go solution vs doing a few upgrades.

@TripleB6036 I have an 1st Gen sv650s for the road, not the most comfortable for touring but it's a dream to ride. I was veering towards the rally because of the extra fuel capacity but as a new rider, I'm going to be dropping the bike, a lot! I could just strap a jerry can on with extra fuel and stick a wind deflector on. I also have a big van, so if i did want to travel around, I'd probably stick the bike in the van. I think I hadn't really considered weight at all until I watched your video. You made a lot of good points I hadn't thought of, much appreciated

I have Rally 300 (well 250 here in Indonesia...). The suspension is a bubble gum joke, I got YSS shock and did Racetech gold valve plus second spring, it's awesome now ($1000 usd). My bike has Euro 5 ECU, terrible off idle fueling, fixing that but as it's weird 250cc bike, not easy. I suggest buying lower crash bars/skid plate, it sure saved my plastic few times already (m15 performance products, made here in Indonesia). The steel bars are also super soft, so fat bar and proper hand guards should be on your list (like the L). I do lots of "adv" rides, 75% small roads, 25% dirt. With stock tires, the front end never felt good, the bike would tip excessively into turns.....After few tries I am now happy with Dunlops D605s ($120 for both here), good balance for both road and dirt. Once you set up the Rally (I got $2000 in my), it's the ultimate, Asian adv bike (just came back from a 3300 km ride). The L is a trail bike, but for that I have a locally made CRF150L, stripped down a bit, at 115 kgs. Good vids, be safe.

Great feedback. Agree about the shock. I have a Rally Raid shock coming from the UK. I have installed Outback Motortek crash bars. Have Acerbis handguards on order and may look into lower engine guards and skid plate although I don’t do too much rough stuff on the Rally so may get away without them. The fuelling on my 300 is great, no issues there. The heat is way better than the 300L which im sorting with an ECU tune and full system. I’m tempted with Fat bars on my L with risers as I don’t like the standing position on it currently. How are the D605’s in the wet? I’ve heard some complaints about them. Love both bikes for different reasons. I used to have the CRF 150L , nice bike but underpowered for what I wanted to do on it. Thanks for commenting.

@TripleB6036 I ride on side roads that typically are already contaminated with sand and such. When riding in wet, I simply slow down a bit. The 605s are great for my riding style.

I run the MT 21 Pirellis front and rear and they work well in all conditions. The throttle works great on my L with the EU ECU after doing a throttle reset. The stock suspension is horrendous off-road. I did the YSS shock and open cartridge forks. This makes a huge improvement although the shock fades quickly when pushing the bike over rough ground. If I had it to do over again I would go with Öhlins or Rally Raid suspension.

I own a few bikes which I ride quite sedately but once I jump on my crf300l I feel 16 again and ride it like a hooligan which the bike seems to prefer. It feels happier and smoother in the higher rev range plus I find I get a pokier performance when using the better e5 fuel so comined with its lightness, I love it. Oh and with regards the suspension which everyone seems to hate well I love its plushness on the UK potholed roads so I think its pretty much faultless apart from the small fuel tank...just my two cents.

I’m exactly the same, feels like the bikes I started out on but with a bit more power. A Yamaha DT50 and Suzuki TS125. If this was around when I was 17 I’d have been over the moon. I’ve got some parts arriving for it, hopefully this week but I’m leaving the suspension for now. I’m amazed how bad the roads are in the uk when I come back to visit. Fuel is t an issue over here, there’s a petroleum station every 10-20km.

Nice summary. I had a 2018 250 Rally and sold that, signed up to a new V-Strom 1050 that I still have (looks nice and well made but very heavy) but miss the little Honda and will probably get the 300l next.

Agreed about the 1050, I really liked mine. I only sold it as I left the UK but didn’t want to pick up another one here due to the weight. I did pick up the new VStrom 800 which feels much more manageable than the 1050 even though on paper it’s not worlds apart. Now jumping on the CRF300L like I did yesterday is a blast.

I haven’t tried the V-Strom800 but my love is singles or V-Twins hence the 1050 and I loved the retro looks of the bigger v-Strom more than the 650. Parallel twins like the 800 don’t quite ‘rock my boat’. Anyway I prefer off road given the choice & when on road my ADV350 scoot is actually better for touring than the big Suzuki in many respects (not top speed but certainly storage, comfort, ease of use and weather protection).

⁠⁠@@capitalsoftwoodltd7435I’m not usually a massive fan of parallel twins but the 800 is certainly a good one. The retro looks worked for me on the 1050xt too. Which colour did you go for? I used to be purely a road rider but Offroad is fast becoming my preference too. Thanks for commenting.

I used to have the CRF 250L in Thailand and did much the same style of exploring riding, only holding off going crazy due to lack of rider gear & emergency care compared to back in the UK. Did you have a go on the older 250? I'm wondering how much better the new 300 is?

Haha yeh, I’m definitely aware of the 2 hour trip to a half decent hospital here which makes me hold back a little when riding. I had a 2019 250L. Never did a video on it. The 300 engine just tips it over that point of not feeling underpowered. The clutch is way lighter, the bike feels a little lighter too. The gearing is much better. It’s not worlds apart but all the little changes add up to make a difference. The 300L kicks out a lot more heat at slow speeds though. I’m hoping to sort that with the Yoshimura and ECU I’ve got coming.

Dude, this channel is exactly what I'm looking for right now. I'm in the process of getting my license and my first bike. I want something to travel New Zealand's highways and (more importantly) our gravel roads. I don't want to go fast, I want to get to remote places on roads used by 4WDs also. The bottle neck for me as a learner is CC rating, can't go over 650cc for the first 2 years. So I'm looking at bikes like the 300L, 300 Rally, RE Himalayan 450, KTM 390 Adventure, etc. I'm leaning toward the Rally at this point, parts are cheap and easy to find, there are a lot of upgrades available, whereas something like the new Himalayan kind of seems like a hassle for aftermarket stuff and even parts. My concern is highway speeds getting to the off road sections I want to travel. How do those 300s handle highway speeds? Can they keep up with highway traffic on hills comfortably?

The Rally comfortably cruises at 90-110KPH which is about as fast as I’ll go on the roads over here due to conditions. It will go a little faster but doesn’t get there as quickly. I’ll be doing more videos on both the L and Rally as soon as I’m back in the Philippines later this month.

One big difference for the weight is mostly going to be noticed if you ride American highways say 60% or more of the time. You'll want that extra weight while riding at 70mph w/ all the traffic. ChronicleofSolid Channel did a pretty good split on these 2 bikes and why he chose the "L" ..... lol, lighter, more agile, and on the single tracks after picking her up all day you'll want the lighter bike. But I know nothing, looking at the Rally as a 1st bike... peace

Until 2 weeks ago I had no idea the "Rally" was a version of the 300L..... lol, I kinda thought it was a key-word thing that Riders called their bike at a certain point in the mod process >> > I was wrong but pleasantly surprised at the stuff that came stock on her. FuelGear indicators on the display was one & the wind screen will do a lot more than people think. Fuel capacity is pretty good & I've got 2-3 months until I'll have the money to buy her.... @@scottlocke3645⁠yeh it’s safe with the usual provisos of not going in shady areas at night, be aware of your surroundings and don’t look like a victim. Ive never had any problems here in 10 years as long as you’re respectful then people are very kind and friendly. Just be aware of girls who profess their love very quickly, claim to be a student but can’t afford to finish their studies or mention of sick relatives very early on in knowing them. They’re almost always scammers trying to get money. Basically never send money or give to anyone you don’t really know and you won’t be taken for a fool. But as a general tourist it’s safe and friendly .

I'd like to go back to Grande Island that place was very interesting. Somewhere I have a picture of me behind the prison bars in one of the dugout cells. Thanks for the info,be safe😊

Great video and comparison. I decided to go 300l. I don't plan on doing much traveling on it except to some trails. If I want to travel, get a windscreen and a rotopak, and good to go. The videos are quite good that you do. But when you do some traveling and exploring, maybe better quality to catch the beauty of where you are living. Be safe and take it easy.

Yeh I originally chose the L for the same reasons. Noted re the videos. Locally I just don’t want to get the drone and proper cameras out but when I travel for sure I will.
