Great job Jimmy! This shaft brings back memories of the good old days. Crust Rusty Vehicle. Glad you were able to fix it!

You can replace just the bearing of the drive shaft - Yes, Honda says to replace the whole thing for some reason, but there are expert shops who replace just the bearing. I had this done for my moms crv at a place called Cardanic in Toronto. Only cost $300. If a shop convinces you you need a new one, call another. Called a handful of places before finding Cardanic. Don’t stress, light issue. It was a 2014 CRV.

300?? At that point your better off buying a new one off amazon or ebay there under 150 bucks.

its crazy that you have to change the whole shaft for a worn bearing .. have to change mine :(

Is there are companies now that make hanger bearings for Subaru shafts, I would check around online to see if there's anything for the CRV. Most likely there isn't because it is older. Good luck my friend.

can you tell me what the sizes are of all the bolts that hold the drive shaft in I've miss placed mine
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic Год назад
Sure no problem. For them both to the rear differential it is an M8 by 1.25 thread pitch Bolt. However the studs are unique and should be bought at the dealership. The nuts are just generic not to make sure to get the lock washer. For the hanger bearing I believe the thread pitch is M10 by 1.25. I'm not sure what the length of Bolt is I believe it was roughly about 2 in. Again I would go to the dealership because they have a number of washers. Or you can go to the scrap yard and pull them all off. I hope this helps. Good luck

How's it holding up? Decent amount of rust under there.
@JimmysAutoClinic

It was holding up well, the customer sold the car I think last year and I haven't heard any news about it since or seen it in the news LOL
@Evangelist-Harold
@Evangelist-Harold 9 месяцев назад
@ 3:06 what are the exact size for these bolts?
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 8 месяцев назад
I don't remember what the exact thread pitch is. They were a 14 mill head and I believe they were an M 10 x 1.25 thread pitch. But the easiest way to find that out would be to call the dealership with your Vin number and then ask them what the part number is for that specific bolt type in the part number to Google and then usually the thread pitch and diameter of the boat will be listed.

My hondas driveshaft broke. And for some reason its having electrical problems too. Not sure what they have to do with each other
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 2 года назад
Hey Mike I don't think they are related. From what I can remember the only electrical problem you could cause Yourself by having a broken drive shaft is if it's smashed the rear O2 sensor. But I don't remember any wiring in the area of the drive shaft other than the O2 sensor so I think they are completely unrelated. Of course this is depending upon what kind of electrical issue you have. I hope that helps you. Don't forget to subscribe.

@@JimmysAutoClinic ok. My o² sensor was missing when my catalytic converter was stolen. It was still driving well
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 2 года назад
Well you should get the O2 sensor and converter replaced for the best operation and fuel mileage. What's the electrical issue that you're having?

@@JimmysAutoClinic the tachometer goes to 0 at times when its running. The lights are dim like the car wants to die and the abs light comes on. Wipers are also slow on full speed
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 2 года назад
Yeah that's definitely completely unrelated. Looks like you'll need a proper diagnosis. From the sounds of it I would look at the alternator to see what it's charging. You could have it failing from time to time.

You don’t need to mark or line anything up
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 2 года назад
There is no need to mark anything. Just make sure all of your mating surfaces are cleaned and debris free and straight and you can put it back together.

@@JimmysAutoClinic The one you're using in the drive shaft. My bolts were missing already because the drive shaft was removed. Im looking for the same bolts to attach the drive shaft.
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 3 года назад
Okay so the bolts that were on the drive shaft flanges were I believe M8 x 1.25 pitch. The head is a 10 mm 12 point head. You don't have to use the 12 point style of Bolt you can use a six-point which is just a regular hex bolt. And the hanger bearing bolts I believe for M10 X 1.25 pitch. I can confirm the bolt sizes for the drive shaft when I head into work later today. If you are from Toronto you can come by and I can give you the bolts if I still have them.

Not good advice, in my opinion. Just replace the universal joint, not the whole driveshaft.
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 3 месяца назад
This is technically a non-serviceable part. There are ways to service it however the majority of people will not be able to service it properly without taking it to a drive shaft shop, which are sometimes hard to find with the capabilities necessary to repair it. So majority of the time the only real option is replacing the shaft. There is no point to me showing people an option they won't be able to do 9 times out of 10.
