Great video. Very clear instructions on the CRV oil change. I did look into the Fomoto valve right after viewing the video but based on some of the negative reviews on the valve itself decided to just stay with the plug. Thanks for the great video, please make more of them.

I bought another oils cap then drilled a hole to fit my funnels. It's a lot cheaper this way. I know there are company out there making a special funnels for this, that you can just screws in. Thank you for those lift points, i was afraid to use it. I only use the front and back lift points, they are just a little inconvenience. After seeing you did it, I am going to use that from now on. Thanks.👍

What a great idea on the oil cap funnel. I’m definitely going to do that. I actually almost bought one of the special funnels, but I think it wouldn’t even work that great. Your idea is much better!

You might look into installing a Fumoto drain valve with a hose attached. Look it up. It is a 1/4 turn ball valve with a detent at the closed position. I have had these on four vehicles, and the two I have now. If you have a skid plate under it there is no worries about knocking it off. I ran one on a built Toyota FJ Cruiser for ten years(with full skid plates) off road and never had a problem. Come oil change time, just reach through a hole drilled in the skid, turn the valve and let the oil drain. Easy as can be……

I love the fumoto drain valves. Makes life easier. I have them on 2 of my cars. @4:48 in this video you can see me adding it to this honda's engine. This car has a flimsy belly pan and no skid plate so I opted for the valve that rotates out of the way. I like your setup of a hole drilled, very smart!

I use a Stahlbus Oil Drain on my 2019 CRV. I have no issues with this valve & Oil changes without leaving a mess.

Those look pretty cool. I’ve seen people use these to suck oil out on Mercedes but not drain. Pretty cool. I’ll have to try one out for testing. amzn.to/3Q1EuYx

@@johnguest3788 Can you confirm which Stahlbus Oil Drain plug you use… M14X1.5X12mm or the M14X1.25X12mm? It would suck to not have the correct pitch when I change my oil.

Nathan. Sorry I don’t remember the thread size. Send Stahlbus an email and they will get back to you within 24 hrs. That’s what I did before ordering the drain valves for my vehicles.

I did the first oil change and transmission fluid change on my wife’s car. I would suggest people to invest on a few good ramps and a fluid pump. Overall, it took me about an hour to do and about $90. Dealer quoted me $210.
@fixitwithjake
@fixitwithjake Год назад
That is some nice savings Leto! Especially since most Honda owners do this more then 20 times over the life of the car! What kind of fluid pump are you using? Great point on the ramps! I should get some. I had think Ramps a few years ago but sold them when I needed to move. That would speed up the process and be safer.

Excellent video JAKE, thank you for making it. I was intrigued because of the use of the Fomoto Valve. I've used them for years on Subarus and never had an issue. I switched to Honda cars ('21 CRV) & a new '23 Integra both with 1.5 L turbo engines. I was going to install the valves on both but I ran into an issue with the CRV. I ordered the F106N and was unable to install it on the CRV. The clearance just above the the drain opening was too low and could not thread it on. Is the F106SX model the best solution for this? Looks like there is a part of the assembly of the valve that detaches and you can easily thread it into the oil pan drain. Am I seeing that correctly? Please advise. Thanks Again.
@fixitwithjake
@fixitwithjake Год назад
Yes, correct. The 106SX design is made for the easier install to avoid obstruction when needing to tighten it down in place. Without seeing your exact clearance it is hard to say too much but it certainly worked well for the tight spot on the CRV I was working on. I have it on hand next oil change and see how it fits. But keep the old drain plug just incase u have any clearance issues. Free returns anyway. From Fumoto "The SX can rotate 360° which allows orientation to achieve a smaller profile and maximum protection. The unique through bolt design can be tightened independent of the valve body, allowing for a simple installation that easily avoids obstructions."

@@fixitwithjake That is great information. I will opt for this Valve and install on the next oil change which will be soon I have a feeling. Another question I have for you and actually a short video I made. Could you check it out and tell me what you think? ru-vid.comFgtZ8uSZATg?feature=share
@rafars2246
@rafars2246 2 года назад
The regular F106S (the one I like) can't be adjusted, so you'll have to screw and rotate the valve opening mechanism. Do you think is enough room to do that? Of course you don't have that problem because the F106SX doesn't need to be rotated, just adjusted to your like. I like the F106S because it has less possible leak points.
@fixitwithjake
@fixitwithjake 2 года назад
It is hard to tell if there is enough room. I think I remember in my research there was another youtuber that did get the F106S installed OK. But if I was doing this job myself…… I would have both valves with me so that if it did not fit I would go with the other one. Amazon free returns with that link in the description. Hope that helps!

Since removing the oil filter results in significant oil spillage, is there really an advantage to using an oil drain valve?
@fixitwithjake
@fixitwithjake Год назад
Very good point you make. No way around the messiness of removing the oil filter. But by using the drain valve, it’s significantly speeds up the process for me and is one less spill out of two. Also, I am able to get it directly into the containers that I will recycle it in and not have to dump all the oil into a bucket or oil container. So basically it’s half as easy with the oil valve. I have them on all my cars.

@@fixitwithjake I've always found that cleaning the drip pan is the biggest task, but I suppose that getting less dirty oil in it would make that task quite a bit easier.
@fixitwithjake
@fixitwithjake Год назад
Ya. I’m with you. I’m one of those people that cleans out the oil container carefully EACH time. But I just got a new one that’s sealed. I plan to leave dirty all the time in the garage and empty as needed. Should only need to empty every 6 oil changes or more bc of the valve. The valve dumps majority of the oil into recycle containers. Only thing into the drip pan will be filter and it’s left over oil. This is for 2 cars and a boat. amzn.to/3PO3ar7

Try taking a hammer and a nail or nail-punch and tap a small hole into the bottom of the full oil filter while still in place. The excess oil can drain straight down into your tub, then filter removal is a lot cleaner.

Oh, that’s because I did not install it yet until after this oil change. So it has the standard oil drain plug that I removed and I installed the drain valve on this oil change. I have had it ever since now.
