Nice job on both the repair and the video. You should be getting more views of this. But for those of us who have found it - much appreciated.

Assembly lube to help hold the keepers in place on reinstalling was a golden tip. Best $13 I ever spent! Works great. I tried the second one without it and dropped a keeper.... I will be using the lube on the remaining valves! Great video thanks so much for posting!

I used a 13mm socket on my 91 Mazda Protégé BP01 head and it destroyed one of my stem seals. Luckily I noticed before I put the valve spring back on

Hi, very nice job bro, grateful for your video. I am working on it also now but there is some oil and it became a little bit carbon on the two cylinders. Do the car burn them out by itself or should I buy something and put to tank?

Blue smoke at acceleration usually is a indicator of bad oil rings. Seals would be at startup that goes away after warming up

how long did it take you? i have to do it but i’m going to have to go the rope method

Nice job. I have a 1999 civic that is starting to use oil. I suspect the valve stem seals are the problem. It was interesting to see how to change them. I think it's a little beyond my level of repair, though with the help of a friend I did change the timing belt. About how long did it take you to change them?

Was it the seals or piston rings?

Nice vid! I’m also burning oil was going to remove the head before watching this! Could you explain the rope method aswell ??
@ilikeautosdaily
@ilikeautosdaily 4 года назад
Tomsky real simple, all you do is push a bunch of rope in the spark plug hole then rotate the engine so the piston pushes the rope against the valves holding them in
@mctomeister

Ilikeautosdaily thanks for reply bro I managed to do the seals with the rope trick didn’t take long at all!

Oil around my exhaust manifold studs, hopefully it is valve seals and not a cylinder issue.....

Can I ask why you did them? I am on Vancouver Island. I have a d16y8 less than 2000 kms on it but burning blue only when I am decelerating and then get back on it. Nothing at start up. Compression test at 180 and leak down only 3 percent variation accross all 4. Motor was all rebuilt but sat for 5 years in the car in the driveway before being used again. I am leaning towards valve seals and they are the easiest to do. Debating on oem or the super tech ones. Thx!
@ilikeautosdaily
@ilikeautosdaily 3 года назад
Mine did the same it was a low km engine and would puff smoke after decel and compression was good. If you’re mechanically inclined it’s a fairly easy job to do for peace of mind.

Did the rocker arm assembly sit flush? Every time I try and put the assem back on, it doesn’t seat and when I try and tighten the bolts it feels like my bolts are about to snap and I didn’t touch or mess with the rocker arm assembly
@ilikeautosdaily
@ilikeautosdaily 4 года назад
i believe everything should sit flush. there are thin dowels in the oil passages that need to be aligned before tightening the bolts. if you've bent one of those it will not bolt on properly and oil flow could be restricted.

Is timing an issue if you don't set it at TDC before disassembly and then back to TDC before reassembling?
@ilikeautosdaily
@ilikeautosdaily 3 года назад
as long as nothing moves between disassembly and reassembly it should be finr but it is highly recommended that you find top dead just do be sure that nothing has moved.

I bought a rebuilt Head for my Del Sol and head the pistons and rings replaced and the cylinders bored out etc. etc... 7 years ago, I assume it came with new Seals... I'm not having any problems just looking at what I can do to make it better and or take care of it... she's running strong!!

Rope. Feed rope into the spark plug hole and rotate the crank so that the piston pushes the rope up to hold the valve in place.
