If you have water leaking into your del Sol trunk and/or hear trapped water sloshing around when you drive, the drain tubes in your sail panels might be clogged. It's easy to check and fix!
(Note: if you have a very bad issue with debris that has entered your sail panel, you will eventually need to remove them to clean all that junk out.)
Tools needed:
Phillips screwdriver (preferably stubby or 90-degree handle)
An old speedometer cable (or a length of thin tubing - not too stiff, not too floppy)
Possible replacement parts:
Side skirt retaining clips 91513-SM4-000
Side skirt underside clips 91503-SP0-003

I used a child’s fishing pole to push through the drain .. worked perfectly and now my ECU unit is talking to my MAP sensor, and on every single try hours and low temps in between.. the mighty Honda Scarab Civic Del Sol starts without hesitation.. thanks for this video it saved me hundreds of dollars in diagnostics

Very smart. I always knew you could clear the tubes out via removing the entire interior rear compartment area (quite a time consuming job). This method is not only highly clever and quick but much less invasive. Kudos to a great video!

@Hondatsun Fan great vdieo ... Hey at 2:41 you show one of the jack points for the car that you can use the scissor jack on ... as you know there are four of these jack points around the car .... are there any other reinforcement points underneath the car ( back or front) and I am not to sure where to put solid jack stands as there is to much plastic (i.e. sail panel) to know where to put jack stands .... thanks

You can jack under the rear tow hook. There is also a factory jack point under the front of the car in the center. Reach back about two feet from the bumper and you can feel it. Obviously use a real floor jack, not scissor jacks.

Is this why I have a sloshing noise in the Winter when it rains? I didn't have it this year for some reason but 2 years ago all I could hear was this sloshing noise go back and forth... couldn't figure out what it was.

Probably. You might also have some water in the compartment that your rear window retracts into. You can see in there with a flashlight to check.

@@hondatsunfan1011 OH! I thought this drain was supposed to Drain that! It doesn't have it now as it's been super drying California this year and I just didn't drive in the rain this year. I would put a towel over the rear window gap rolled up, when I would go into the stores. So is there anything you can do other than wait for spring for it to dry out from the rear window? Thanks!

This video shows how to drain the sail panels.

@@hondatsunfan1011 Yes, I understand that! I was just wondering if this also drains the water that comes in front the rear window like you mentioned above? Thank you! P.s. what kind of seats do you have in your car? I am looking to buy some new seats! Thanks again!!

Those are separate drain tubes that come out underneath the car near the gas tank. You don't need to remove anything to get to those.

Drops of water keep getting collected underneath my trunk lid. Do you know what the problem can be?
@ugh.idontwanna
@ugh.idontwanna 2 года назад
Moisture in the trunk. Apart from checking for clogged drains like in this video, I would check the tail light gaskets. If they've never been replaced, my money is on the gaskets. I got my replacements from Restotuner. They are pretty easy to replace. As for getting rid of the water afterwards, check for water under the spare tire and wipe it up if you find any. If the floor liner feels moist, bring it inside overnight.

What about all the garbage in the sail panel? Wouldn't it keep reclogging the hole?
@hondatsunfan1011
@hondatsunfan1011 3 года назад
If there is a lot of debris in there, then yes, it could get reclogged. But unless that is happening often, I still would not risk undoing the sail panel, because there are some very fragile clips in there. I personally would just redo the process I showed here.

another tip is to cut the drain plug end "nose" so the dirt can get easier out.

You also get it from inside too
