@@alanj7306 Fuel is awful to stock. If there is a black out you will fight at the gas station to get some. It smells awful and it reduce the lifespan of your generator and need more maintenance. Totally worth it

@@tamivanthof8132 Just measure the thickness of the "mixer" (the part that is lettting the propane gas into the carburetor) and use regular metal washers. 4-5 washers should be the same thickness like that nylon washer. It's needed to avoid crushing the air filter housing when tightening the nut.

Its a system known in the trade as Suck and Burn. Suitable for engines running at fixed revs and loads. Though ideally you need to change the spark plug for an LPG model. Trouble is theses are eye watering costs. For my V8 LPG Land Rover Discovery, the standard NGK plug are £7.94 each . The LPG are £18 each! I and I have 8 of them! Fortunatley the standard plug does run it OK,. When fittting the gaskest, use a GAS approved sealeant, and on all threaded connections. This ensures no leaks and cleanear burn.

Forklifts are used indoors such as warehouses running propane because they do not produce carbon monoxide IF they are set up properly, I.e. not running rich (excess fuel).

I always run my generator sitting on a small board like you have yours. It keeps it from vibrating on the ground and making a dust cloud in dirty camp grounds, which result in it eating its own dirt.

Thomas Cunningham It does because Propane and Natural Gas are lower energy density fuel sources. I believe it is approximately 15% less wattage available from P/NG.

Good stuff! I run large diesel gens for emergency back up power, so we derate our units for use with different fuels (JP8 V JP5 V DF2). Didn't know percentage wise for propane however Edit: Spelling

What happens to the gasoline fuel pump when the generator is running off propane ? Is the pump still pumping and does it damage it running with no fuel going through it ?

Typically small engines like this are gravity fed fuel systems which are regulated with a float needle valve in the bowl of the carburetor. No pump required.

I did some reading and more video watching and found out they make a switch for the 2000i that has to be added to shut off the pump since it doesn't have the 3 way switch like the 2200I has built in . This switch when set at the gasoline off lp gas on space it shuts off the pump .

When you start the honda count the flashes on the run light. Each flash = 100 hours. Harbor freight Predator is 1/3 the cost and a much better value. Good generators Honda is usually but HF is fine. HF honors the warranty, Honda will not.

Used to have a heavy truck that had been run on propane as part of a pilot project. The oil was absolutely clean but the truck was GUTLESS and used more propane (which cost more) than gasoline when I converted the motor back to gas.

That was a good video. Clear and concise. I'm pleased to see how easy it was to add the propane parts. With the generator on propane, it will not pollute the oil as the gasoline would., You can probably go far longer with oil changes. On that note, I highly recommend using synthetic oil. It is so much better.

Bought one of these generators and the separate conversion kit 3 months ago....we lost power 1month ago for 2 days....I went out to the garage, and the generator started on the second pull, and I ran it continuously for the 2 days, saving all the food in the refrigerators......PHENOMENAL....can’t sat enough great things about the LP conversion kit, and generator...

Any idea yet how long the generator will run on a 20# tank of propane? Is there a significant increase/decrease in run times for the generator? (No more getting up in the middle of the night to refill the gas tank on the genny?) Also, have you calculated cost differentials between the gas and propane versus usage times? Also...I like how you handle some of the more confrontational comments below. I don't understand why people have to respond so aggressively. If the conversion is not for them, why not simply move on with your life? Or why watch the video to begin with? You two are a nice young couple with a GREAT channel (one of my top two!); never let those trolls or negative-nellies get you down. Last thing: I LOVE that Hank Hill comment! Funny stuff.

From what I'm reading online, a 20lb tank has 4 gallons of propane in it, and would run for roughly 28 hours at 1/4 load as compared to a gallon of gasoline providing 8 hours of run time. This is just secondhand information from the internet though, I've emailed Hutch Mountain for a confirmed run time. I'll let you know what they say when I get a response. And yes, we have grown quite a thick skin to negative comments. They really don't bother us so we're able to respond with a cool head 👍

Depending on how much power you're drawing as well. An ac unit on will reduce the run time due to larger draw. Just my experience.

@@FateUnbound i have a Honda 2000w with less than a gallon at low i get 11 hrs and with the roof ac on(364 installed frm MicroAir) i get about 6 to 7 hrs of running time..! $2..$$ Imagine if i have to go like everyday to buy a propane tank..$20..that is way expensive%..bro..!..!

Hutch Mountain got back to me and said 30 hours of run time at quarter load, 22 hours at half load, and 12 hours at full load off of a full 20lb "bbq" size propane tank. I think that's pretty good!

I have a Champion one and I guess if you ran it constantly it would last 2-3 days or more with propane. I use my when working with power tools and it lasts over month because I close the valve when not In use it’s pretty amazing

We agree, we are so happy we can ditch our gas can and dont have to deal with gasoline anymore. Inevitably every time I fill the generator with gas I get some on my hands and they stink of gasoline for the rest of the day.

Thanks for this video. I love that it's an either-gas-or-gas(oline) and not a gasoline-to-LPG/LNG conversion. I look forward to trying this out on mine. Two questions tho: How did it change, if at all, the behavior on eco mode, and how has the noise changed? In the video it seemed louder than mine on gasoline.

Note of interest: Propane burns cooler - less BTUs - so, the generator will not produce 100% of its rated output for gasoline on propane but appx. 80% to 85% of the rated output. Keep this in mind when determining what size generator you think you need.

Electrician here, I've installed tons of generators and the best ones by far use propane. Quieter, less gunk, engines last longer than the heavy fuel gen sets. Good Job!

KingTesticus for stand by units that run infrequently, yes propane/natural gas is best, but the fuel has far less energy content than diesel. Diesel is still better for a piston engine being used as a prime mover, for efficiency reasons.

I also recommend using fuel rated Teflon tape or pipe joint compound on the threads of the fittings, to make sure you have a good seal.

It's a demand regulator. When the generator stops running (sucking gas), the flow stops. That connection should always be under negative pressure (vaccuum) when there's gas in the line, so the only risk of a leak in the joint is the engine running slightly lean.

Why not just drain the carb with the drain screw on the carb out the pink hose's. I find even after running the carb dry through the fuel off knob it still holds fuel.

Ordered my Hutch Mountain kit last weekend, it arrived today. I install it tomorrow. Our EU2200i is new, haven’t even put oil in it yet. I will be breaking it in with gas, then switch to propane for primary use. I ordered the Quick Disconnect kit so I can run this off the LP port in the front of our AIrstream and plug into the generator port in the front as well. Will be able to chain it to the A Frame for security as well.

Great video guys. How long does the eu2200i run on that tank of propane in the video? I recently had to fire mine up during this Texas ice storm and gas was very hard to obtain. I wonder if propane would be easier and how long can propane store for? Do they sell propane tanks that will last 1 week or so? I'd love to ditch the gas cans.

but as another person commented, it may be “cleaner burning”, but now you will have no warning of poisonous fumes because of it being so clean burning. this is why they add odor to propane and natural gas, so you can smell if there is a gas leak.

Like I said I don't use a generator but if I'm camping next to someone who does I sure would appreciate a cleaner unit that's burning propane instead of diesel or gasoline. The dangerous fumes? It's not inside their trailer....

Something almost nobody keeps in mind is that the tuning to run on propane is different than gasoline. While these absolutely will run on propane with a stock tune, you’ll absolutely shorten the service life, often significantly, by installing a kit like this and not re-tuning for propane. I’m all for it, just the people making these mods oftentimes are not mechanics and don’t understand the differences between gasoline and propane and how it effects the hard parts over time if not properly set up all the way.

They run hotter for sure. I converted an Onan to propane in 2000 but it had the stelite valves designed for high heat from propane use from the factory.

How does the Propane gas pressure regulator handle cold weather? Propane (LPG) systems in cars need to be heated with coolant fluid, otherwise the pressure regulator will freeze.

I would have love seeing comparison time consumption between 1 full gas tank fully electric loaded vs 1 full 20lbs propane tank. The instructions video was crystal clear even if i don't own that generator 🙂

To be fair it would have to be one 20lb propane tank vs 4.5 gallons, give or take, of gasoline. That way you're using the same amount of fuel to figure the run time.

Well, as a pipe fitter I actually recommend tape then dope on every threaded fit up. BUT ½ inch or smaller either is usually fine. And I don't do gas lines often at all really. So there might be something I'm unaware of for gas lines. We usually do air and water.

On a side note. You can buy this kit and did it your self with no legal problems. But a small engine repair shop can not do this for you legally unless the have the proper permits and licenses. I know because I work in a small engine shop and we get people from time to time wanting us to install such conversion kit. IF we did we would get fined like $50,000 and lose our business license because we are not propane certified. So do not buy one of these kits thinking you local small engine will install it for you. If they do and they are not propane certified they are risking a lot of trouble.

I like that this is not conversion from gasoline to propane but to a multi-fuel setup. Propane is cleaner burning and easier to use, but a little more expensive and less energy dense. If you're in the boonies though and the propane runs out or isn't not an option, you can make electricity using gasoline.

I would suspect Honda 'wouldn't' honor the mod if you did it yourself. The reason is, there are too many "nut jobs" out there that would do something not mechanically correct and crack the manifold, bend the gas line wrong, and so on. I would be willing to be they would 'honor it' if you had a Certified Mechanic do it, because then they could come back to the Mechanic if something went wrong, and they could show "They followed all the proper precautions.

I've watched a lot of "Do-It-Yourself" demonstration videos on RU-vid and this one ranks right up there amongst the best available. Very clear and concise yet detailed with excellent video shots of what is going on. Bravo! On a separate note, it just blows me away WHY small engines, be it generators of lawn mowers, have to be so damned noisy. I can walk out my driveway when 5 cars are sitting there running, awaiting a stop light change, and I don't hear anything. Each of those engines is capable of producing way beyond 100 horsepower yet they run very silently, other than those whose exhaust systems have been specifically modified by insecure individuals to make as much noise as possible in a "hey mommy, look at me" frame of mind.

its the sound deadening provided by the engine bay and engine size helps too, bigger parts mean lower frequencies and high pitched whining.

Hi love you chance. I work a round low pressure cylinders and the only need to be open 1/2 to 1 turn of the valve. That with all fuel cylinders. Thats way if sum thing goes wrong you can shut it off quickly

A real professionnal mechanic WON'T recommend to do this conversion by ourself. This "thing" is "you work with gas" and no one is legally nor skilled to take this responsability. You must engage a certified technician in propane.

I'm a school bus mechanic with over 36 years experience with all manner of internal combustion engines and I'm a certified electrohydraulic engineer. I've done so many propane conversions on forklifts for indoor use I've lost count. My 15 year old daughter could install this kit with the instructions they provide. Thank you for your input. Definitely do it. We've been running our honda for 5 years now on propane and it's so much nicer than gasoline. We've had zero problems.

Absolutely. You can switch back to gasoline anytime. The kit in no ways limits the type of fuel used.

With this kit it's now a dual fuel generator and can switch back and forth between gasoline and propane.

That is a special on demand regulator. It only lets the lp out as the engine sucks it out. It also regulates the lp pressue. Some kits have the pressure regulator and the on demand regulater seperate.

Great idea. I would like to have it. But I would mention a few things. I have done gas conversion for 3 of my cars. a.) The engine runs hotter. b.) Gas has 100 oktan but still the engine has less power. c.) The gas "washes" the oil from the cylinder wall With cars I came away from gas again. It was interesting to do it but the power loss and the engine cooling and no chance to have a jerry can with gas with you was something it brought me away from it.

Richard Estrada it’s essentially the same theory as a car Richard. The more load you have on your car the less gas mileage you get. If you load the generator (asking it to make more power) it will consume more fuel (on any kind, gas or propane). When the generator is asked to work harder it need more fuel

Be aware that the energy density of gasoline is much higher than LP or NG. A 5 gal propane bottle lasting a day hurts a bit. 5 gals of gasoline would last many days. I have this generator and it will hold my large fridge while idling and it will run forever at idle.

From Hutch Mountain: There are a few factors that change the runtime on propane. First, the length of run time depends on the size of the generator model and the size of the propane source. On a standard 20 lb. BBQ Tank a full load will run for approx.. 12 HRs, Half load for approx.. 22 hrs., and a quarter load for approx.. 33 hrs.

@@_JimboSlice That's what is quoted for vehicles. I have a V8 3.9 Land Rover Discovery on it. I'd like to see them try a cold start on Propane alone. The engine needs to be warm to vapourise the propane. I have a friend who runs an ex military Onan genny of it. The system just used a ring , similar to a gas cooker put on top of the carburetor.

@@johnjacobjinglehimerschmid3555 I have some imperical eveidence from an Ex British Military Onan 3.7 KVA genny. That used about 1.5 Imperial Gallons of petrol per hour. A 47 kg Propane bottle, runs about 72 hours. Conversion is just a ring placed on top of carb. Cold weather it does need to start on Petrol for about 5 minutes then shut of and change to Propane. I also have a 3.9 V8 Discovery with PG. The same procedure is starts on petrol and automatically changes to gas when engine warms. In practical terms, there is no noticable diffrence which fuel you are on, though the 'Words' say you lose a bit of top end (in an off road Disco , who cares?) and about 10% of range.
