Honda Fit GD3: 2022 Sundae Cup Record at Lime Rock (No Chicanes) with Telemetry (

For 1st place of 12 at Lime Rock in Gridlife Sundae Cup on August 19th, 2022. This was Heat 1 of 6 during the course of the weekend, and contained my fastest lap of the weekend.
This is far from a perfect lap... Many corners are overcooked, or required throttle lift to make it through, it's just that the conditions worked out in the morning of the first day to make this fast despite being on RT660s with 8 heat cycles in them already. Fluids dumped on the track in other sessions made T4 and T6 particularly slick as the weekend continued.
On the other hand, the Fortune Auto 510s did extremely well this weekend after switching to 12k/12k springs from 14k/12k, and eliminating any pre-load. It became possible to take kerbs and mash the throttle without any discernable hop compared to Mid-Ohio and NJMP two to four weeks ago.

90+ mph through that final turn seems pretty stout in a Fit!

Yea, it was surprisingly composed. The Fortune coils kept the car VERY stable through this corner, and it definitely would have taken me more attempts to take flat out with confidence on my old suspension. The hardest part was not overworking the front tires with too much steering angle. That corner is pretty intimidating for the first couple sessions 😬

I won't be there unfortunately, it's just too far away from Virginia... It sounds like there is a fair share of Sundae Cup cars going though, so I think it'll be a good event. I was definitely still getting acclimated to the new spring rates in this heat haha, I feel like it got a lot more tame later on once I figured out the line better.

How did the spring rate change affect turn in and midcorner?

It definitely made it a little more tail happy because of the "square" spring rates (vs front-biased), but the power application and oscillation control over bumps/kerbs was SOOOOOOOOO much better than 14k/12k Check out my NJMP and Mid-Ohio laps when you have time, and you'll see how much better the oscillation control is with the front spring rate and pre-load adjustment. The handling balance difference was pretty minimal compared to the monster gains felt elsewhere!

@@findtherightbeat I typically max out the front camber (around -3.0 deg each side with camber bolt) and zero out the toe. In this event however, I was running: Driver camber: -3.2 (max I could get) Passenger camber: -2.5 (max I could get) Front Toe: -0.2 deg each side to improve turn-in response, which helped

@@findtherightbeat I think it has to do with the pillowball mount at the top of the coilover if I had to guess... The pillowball can shift around a little bit and cause your camber to be different from alignment to alignment, and the only way to really fix it is by doing camber plates from Tailored Chassis Solutions, Wunderladen Racing, Redshift, or Fortune Auto. I rarely ever achieve equal camber on both sides with the pillowball mount in place. I'll have to report back once I have plates installed
