Honda GCV160 Mower Won't Start, No Spark

**Just in case you lose them: The recoil assembly nuts are 6mm 1.0mm threads! **
This lawnmower is 6 years old and has all original parts other than a 3 year old plug and air filter.
It had no spark so I checked the ground, then replaced the coil. I had spark afterward but it would not start and I was not hearing any pop, but there was gas making it to the carb, there was spark and there was compression. I found a Donyboy video explaining how the auto clutch system works and it solved the second reason for a no start condition.

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure what your calling a ground is the kill switch wire that only goes to ground when the grab handle on the mower handle is released, its what cuts motor off when handle is released, you would have no spark with your green wire hooked up.

Mine was the magnetic "fail safe" at the rear grass exit. I "seated" the bar, and it started right up.

@@btuck777 If you are talking about the relay, it's a magnetic thingie - an the back (think "grass catcher") of the mower. Mine had popped out, so I pressed it back in, and vroooom! I hope it works for you, Brian!

@@jeffharrison1223 Jeff it is a thermal choke for a Honda engine, it goes behind the air filter mount. In my video description I link to Dony Boys video on how he replaces them, his video is far better than any I could make

Clean the coil with sandpaper make it shine

Dude is grounding out the coil with the extra ground he put on it. That ground is how the mower stops the engine via the throttle linkage.

It had no spark until the coil was replaced. It had no spark before adding that wire. Thanks for watching! Without referencing the coil to the same place the sparkplugs are referenced to, there would be no spark. This mower does not use a kill wire, the throttle enable basically drops a huge brake that stalls the mower out, there is no kill switch per se like on a chainsaw or something similar.

@@jimknowlton342 OK maybe the coil wasn't working in the first place, but did you test it with an ohm meter?????? The ground to the coil is how the lawn mower stops the spark to the motor. Your such a guber, Can't be wrong huh? A Biden voter?. That ground is how the motor stops the spark to motor. Test it with a ohm meter with the throttle linkage. Pull the linkage in and there's no ground. Let the linkage out and it grounds. I'm glad I watched the other guys video which explained it properly.
