Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) videos to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers and zero turn mowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, zero turn mower, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on RU-vid and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!

I am rehabilitating an old horizontal twin pulled from my neighbor's woods. You are right; there are some horrible maintenance videos on You Tube. I just subscribed and liked after watching this video. Considering the amount of filth and rust I cleaned elsewhere on this tractor now I know I should check the flywheel magnets and gap and coil itself.
@mousetrap13
@mousetrap13 2 года назад
@@paulbush6503 speaking of rust, I suppose you know about molasses for non labour intensive rust removal? 1 part molasses to about 8 parts water. Soak for couple weeks max & No Rust! You do need to treat the clean surface as when it hits the air again, she just wants to surface rust. I'm about to pull out 4 old Toyota split rims from the 44 gallon drum I set up a fortnight ago. Wash off the smelly good, dry, rust converter spray I already have, thought I'd give it a spray before spray painting them. My car trailer will be on the road to looking good!

I had a Craftsman snowblower a few decades ago where the magnet disconnected from the flywheel and attached itself to the opposite. Took me a long time to figure out the problem. I admit I'm not mechanically inclined but just thought I would mention this incident in case someone has a rare occurrence like I did in the early 80's. I appreciate learning from your videos. Well done and clear concise information.

Thank you!! Out of 5 or 6 vids I've watched you're the only one to explain what removing the primary coil wire does. It effectively eliminates the key switch (ground switch) from the run circuit My ignition switch fell apart and the clowns at the small engine repair shop told me to just connect the two wires together which effectively grounds the coil and shuts off the spark. My primary issue was not only bad gas, but water in the fuel as well, but in order to get to the carb I had to remove a cover, but in order to get the cover out of the way I had to remove the key switch wires, and in doing so I snapped one of the connectors of the switch. It's not uncommon for me to compound a problem during a repair when I'm in a hurry and not being careful. Anyway thanks again!

Thank you for the info! :) Update. I just finished repairing my chainsaw. The flywheel was too close to the coil, too much wood dust everywhere, one tube from the rubber pump (the pressure one I guess) was shredded at one end. The light rain here pushed me inside the house. My room smells of gasoline. Tools everywhere. I kept going. The coil and the flywheel were pretty clean. I changed both tubes in the rubber pump area, cleaned the parts, re-positioned the coil (I did that trick with the business card), started the chainsaw, and... it works! The engine coughed a few times while I pressed the acceleration, then it worked better and better. Maybe tomorrow I'll cut some wood. I'm tired but I'm also happy. Thank you, man. 😁

Hi, I was having trouble starting my Stihl cut off saw. It was intermittent, as in a very weak spark sometimes, then nothing. However, even when there was nothing, when earthing the plug on the engine, I would have no spark,but, would get a bite on my fingers when pulling it over. So I looked up your video and did the kill switch wire thing and there is definitely a coil problem. now I can purchase a new one and be confident it is the problem with not starting. ( Oh I had cleaned the flywheel magnets and the two pick up poles on the coil which were quite rusty and regapped the coil, when checking it in the first instance, hence eliminating a poor contact scenario). Thank You, for making a comprehensive and easy to understand video

great advice Donny. a few years ago my wife had a Murray Ride on mower stop running while we were collecting fallen branches, we had been stating and stopping the mower a dozen times prior i did everything except pull the cut off wire, the fault was a short in the connector to the seat safety switch. there is a spring in the connector that over time shorts out, planned obsolescent as its finest. i've removed that shorting spring from several other Murray mowers since then.

I went through this last year with my 12 year old SRM 230. It was running totally fine the year before, believe it started during my Christmas break maintenance, and I had it stored with 100% pure fuel and oil mix. It burps on first pull, and then starts right up afterward. Last year the thing wouldn't start at all and it was totally dead. I ended up proving that it wasn't the wires or kill switch first, tried a known good spark plug to prove there was still no spark (in some cases very very dim spark), and then ended up justifying the purchase of the $50 OEM ignition coil (without boot). The resistance also was way out of range on the old one, where as the new one had proper in-range resistance. Replaced it and the trimmer started right up.
