I ran Bridgestone on my 2008 Goldwing for years. I couldn’t get much mileage out of them and didn’t care for the feel. I finally tried Dunlop Elite 4 this last tire change. We ride two up pulling a Bushtec trailer and I’ve put just over 5,000 miles on them. I really like them. I’ve been riding since 1970, starting when I was 15. Many years on police motorcycles and have years of experience as a police motorcycle instructor. I think it’s best to go with what suits us as individual riders. What tires feel good to one guy might not to another. Like the old saying, “Go with what you know.” Great video, Mike! Thanks for sharing.

On my 2018 Goldwing DCT Tour, the bike came with Bridgestone G852 front and G853 rear tires (Honda OEM). I then replaced them with Dunlap D423 tires both front and rear. The D423 are also Honda OEM specifications. I found the same sensation of the Dunlap tires washing out a little bit in the corner during wet weather. I liked the grip of the Bridgestone much better. I will be replacing the Dunlaps when they wear out returning to the Bridgestones. As far as mileage, I replace my tires when they get close to the wear marks. I do not try to save money on tires. My safety is number one, no compromise. I want to count on my tires performing properly in all conditions including emergency situations and be able to trust them.

I have a Cross Country Tourer and have put 66k on this bike. But have logged many more on previous bikes. But I've used a lot of Dunlop 3's and Stones. Riding 2 up, cross country with a big load the stones are way better. The stones are better on grooved pavement, wet pavement, and track well through its treadlife. Under these load conditions, the Dunlop about 1/2-3/4 through their tread life will cup and have belts slip. Had bad back-to-back experiences with Dunlop on my Vulcan 2k(50K miles) and Victory XCT(66k miles). The Bridgestone's always performed flawlessly throughout their entire tread life. I think a big guy, riding 2 up in hot weather going cross country. With this weight, you should avoid the Dunlop's like the plague.

Had Bristones as factory O.E. set ups in the 80's on new cruisers . Put Bridgestones on GL1200's in 2003 . They were all great for how i rode back then. Put an E3 front on a GL1500 in 2006 and hated it because it would never bite on curves or on ramps on clezn dry pavement . Just this year put a matched set of E4's on my GL1500 ..... loved the bite on the pavemeent . However , at only 300 mi the front developed a buzz in the handle bars. Checked bearings , calipers and pads , the forks had new progressives pro installed at the same time as the pro mounted tires. Discovered a slight "inverted bump"" in the tread on the left half. Did some research and found a common issue with this occurance. Parked the bike and the next sunday took it out for an approx 200 mi ride. On curves it felt like the bike was not following the line i was riding. Checked the rear this time and it has a 5/16 or more hop in the tread about 1/5 around the circumference of the tire . Sheesh . Checked both beads for mismounts and they both appear to be mounted correctly. Tomorrow monday i am dropping it off and they are going to address the tires with their Dunlop rep when the individual comes in over the next month. In the interim i am not going to take any chances being away from home on a Sunday standed or worse. So it's just as well if its not accessible to use I'm obviously not going to get a refund, so I'll be keeping an eye on them if i get warranty replacements. If they don't approve new tires undr warranty , I'll be switching to the newer Bridgestone Exedra MAX model . I've heard slippery stories about the BT models ( not that that line is meant for a Wing ) but often you would naturally have to assume that it would be close in characteristics to most models in the same brand . I like curves and round-a-bouts , so i want some tire bite . Side note - Eventhough the E4 is made in the USA , Dunlop - Goodyear is now owned by a chinese rubber co. I can't help think that ALL these E4 left side of the tire issues are all a result of the same deficiency at the manufacturing level. There is something wrong somewhere .... why would ALL these left side tire issues with the E4 be so plentiful. For anyone that says they seem to slide out....or not follow their intended line , i firmly believe they are experiencing the same E4 issue i literally just started having . When i had my first 4 rides on the new E4 tires they were Awesome.... but quicky went down hill ... fast . There is a manufacturing issue OR a engineering / design issue. Othrwise , the E4 would be , i think a supreme tire to beat . ... but not currently ..... and its costing me money . .

I drove a Honda GW 1800 and had a gray head more than once. When I got air out of the wheel. I had my wife and luggage with me. I've been to Dunlop. As long as there is air in it everything is ok! Without air, it's a deflated condom! I've gone to the dark side runflat wounds and have done over 120,000 miles. There were punctures and cuts on the wheels, but the motorcycle does not fall!!! Damn manufacturers, where are your moto wheels with ranflat!!??

Great input Thank You! One thing I had to admit about my riding is position. Left lane inside most of the time. That puts me on the left high side of the groove. As an over the road trucker, I see the road ruts and recognize when I get out of the groove. Southern roads have more crown for rain and water shedding, but all roads develop low spots from heavy trucks and traffic patterns. This has effected my tire wear on my bikes. Around 7,000 miles I notice it more but still fail to ride the center of the groove. Just food for thought. Road conditions determine as much wear on tires as does the compound of the tires. Asphalt and concrete up north are denser and less likely to soften in the warm summer where heat melts off tread to. Good luck! Hoka Hey

Thanks for the input Driver! I rarely ride center. Usually left 3rd 1st choice especially if in Right lane. Feel like it gives me more of on “out” should a hazard occur. Appreciate you truckers! I am a UPSer, but only local deliveries! Much respect

I bought a 2009 GW that has Dunlop Elite 4 on it. They had very little miles on them and I've put 7000 miles on them so far but my riding season is close to or at it's end for this year with snow in the forecast. Because of the possible tire shortage I decided I would order a set so when the Dunlops are done I know I will have the Bridgestones to put on. Your review is one that helped me decide to give them a try. Thanks for the review.

I’m also running Shinkos after 10,000 on the original Dunlops. Front tires cupped. Rear wore flat. Noisy as hell. Shinko front and rear for what it cost for one Dunlop rear. Got good reviews. Engineered in Japan, manufactured in South Korea. Been in business since 1946. Found a Podcast of an interview between Motorcycle Men and an Exec from Shinko. Informative. They’ve done everything I’ve asked them to do so far except no rain yet. Hope I get at least the same mileage as the Dunlops.

Been winging it several years and sold my older 2006 and upgraded to the 2018 DCT a couple years ago... I've ran several different model tires... Dunlops, Bridgestones, Avon and Metzlers.... and have always bounced back and forth to Dunlop or Bridgestones.... The new bike came with Bridgestones and I've gotten a little over 11k on them and wearing good... but started to cup around 9-10k which I thought was pretty good. Time to replace... although I could get more mileage out of them... I"m not one to push it. Its time for a new set of sneakers.... Ordered from Wingstuff this morning and free delivery... yee haa... :) Take care all and ride safe... Thanks for the video Mike ! ! !

Thanks for your thoughts and experience MM. Newbe Wing rider, bought 08 this winter, it has E4 rear, Cobra front tire currently, decent life left on both. I am not an aggressive style rider on the Wing, so either Stones or Dunlops would probably serve me well. BTW, Thats a good price on the Stones! I tend to ride my 14 Valk little more agressive which I installed Pirelli Night Dragons after the stock which changed the bike in a good way. stay safe guys..

Hey Mike, we have ran both. Usually Dunlops when we have a long distance trip, because we have gotten more miles. We run Bridgestone when home and short trips inside of three weeks. I like the feel of Bridgestones better, they are softer and grip better than Dunlops. The most miles we have ridden on Dunlops were 15,000. We had a 5000 on them prior to leaving and changed tires while on the road. We average about 9 -12k on both brands, depending on how aggressive we ride.

Always interested in your videos. 2015 Goldwing came with Bridgestone G704, but they only made it 8,000 kilometers. Switched over to the Dunlop E4, but went to the 180/70-16 and they went 25,000 km and didn't have any issues. Just couldn't find any Dunlops available so went back to the Bridgestone Excedra G704. Hopefully will get better wear out of this set.

Changed my Dunlop E4 rear tire at 18,966 miles. Could have easily ran it to 20,000 but decided to change it the same time as the front due to a up coming road trip. That’s on a 2018 Goldwing though. Several trips to tail of the dragon and a 5,300 mile ride from Ohio to California and back. The E3 and E4 front tires I had lasted between 8,500 to 9,500 miles.

I'm 64 years old now and have riddin motorcycles since I was 13. I'm on my fouth Goldwing now a 2016, and I hate how tires wear out so fast. I guess the biggest deal is the price! They should NOT cost so much. I switched to the dark side a year and a half ago, and yes there is a noticable difference in handling, but I don't find it bad, just different. With over 4,000 miles on the Tire it still looks like the day I put it on. I have a Dunlop E4 on the front. While doing a Waterfall themed ride last summer in Arkansas I found myself of some rough gravel roads (which I will avoid going forward) and the bike seemed to handle better than I thought, but not well enough with wife onboard and trailer in tow to want to do again. I'm not an aggressive rider like in my younger days, so the car tire is just fine, but I do admit I prefer the handling of the motorcycle tire.

Last yr i tried the Commander 3 on my 16 wing. Pros and cons to this tire... Pros, excellent wet traction and at 11k i still have at least 5k left so very good mileage. Con and its a big one IMO...i get a humming out of the front tire which i can feel through my feet. Many others have experienced this same sensation as i have. When going very slow i can actually feel the unevenness of the front tire.....feels like i'm riding over tiny pebbles. My bike has centramatics, new wheel bearings and new steering neck bearing so i did everything i could before putting on these tires to ensure a smooth ride. At this point i will just wear out my commander 3's sometime next yr as my riding season is about done. I will be switching back to the Bridgstones

The other bike I ride is a 2009 Vmax and I liked the way Metzlers held up on them overall. They are expensive tires compared to Bridgestones. Some say the stones are soooo much quieter. Others say the dunlops 423 are. Others get double miles out of either brand…. I am getting ready to install the stones exedra max on my 2020 goldwing dct tour. It came with Dunlop 423. About 10K miles so far but they are getting close to the wear bars so I am going to change them. They wash out in the turns…. We’ll see if there is a difference…..

Well been riding motorcycles sense 16yrs old, 59 yrs old now! Owned a 75,79, 2010, 2018 Goldwing! Early years tried many different brands of tire! Oh ya also 2 moto guzzes 73 Eldorado, 2009 Norge, Yamaha road star 1700! I average riding miles per year 25000! First time pulling a big deluxe time CAMPER TRAILER with my 2018 DTC BEEN COAST TO COAST PULLING CAMPER TRAILER riding the back highways, scenic routes ETC! I ONLY ride on Dunlop tires! Ridden in snow pulling camper trailer have pictures to prove it! Ridden Az up into Canada across over to Maine and back also on 2010 goldwing! In video you weren't clear if Dunlop elite 4 were bais or radial! Hell I love mine! The shop I used for 7 yrs in ND! Can tell you how much I ride and they can prove I get best mileage out of Dunlop's verses, Bridgestone, Michelin, tires! Yes when pulling trailer 99% on 2018 I wear out 2 rear tires to 1 front!

I used to run Dunlop but prefer the handling of the Bridgestones. I run the G702/G709 combo. I prefer the larger 180/70R 16 for my rear.

My Cross Country came with Dunlop e3s. Didn't care much for them either, they slid too much in the rain. Just put Avon Cobra chrome on the Cross country but only have about 500 miles so far. I'm running Michelin Commander 2 on my VTX, I like those.

Bridgestones! And, I also Darkside on ocasion. My "Kar Tar" is on a spare rim, so I can swap out to use car tire on interstate road trips. How well the Darkside works depends greatly on the choice of the tire to use. I hate run flats. I check in with the really aggressive Darkside twisty riders and see what they are using at the time.

I had the dunlop 4s on my 1500 and in 2500 miles the rear had tread separation. I bought a 2013 F6B it had the dunlop 4s on it didn't grip on straights or curves. I switched to Bridgestone WOW night and day difference. Bridgestone for me hands down.

I've been running the elite 4's for the last 2 years on a gl1100. The only time I've notice any lose of traction is in temps under 50 degrees. I've got just over 12,000 miles on them and they look almost new still, your bike is probably 100lbs or more heavier than mine though. I live in northern Ohio where curvy roads are kind of few and far between, but I take the curvy ones every chance I get. I wouldn't say I go gentle through the curves, but I probably don't not them as hard as you either.

I can remember a time back when I rode a GL1500, in the mid 90's, and a friend was switching out tires on his new 1500 because he did not like the K177's that came stock on the bike. He had 500 miles on them so I bought those from him and put the rear tire on my 1500 and it lasted 25,000 miles. No kidding. I would normally with the E3's get anywhere from 18 - 20,000 miles on my tires with my 2005 GL1800. My 2018 Tour DCT is different. My last front tire which was a Bridgestone, I got 6,500 miles out of it. The rear tire a Bridgestone now has 4,700 miles on it and is at 2/32 tread left on it. I must ride more aggressively with this bike than any of my other Goldwings. I just went with the Dunlop E4 on the front and will get one for the back soon, and will see how the E4's wear. Thanks for the video and information. Ride safe.

So on my 2016 F6b im at 11k miles. Came stock with bstones. I picked up a nail in rear and put on a dunlop. So bridgestone in front, e4 in rear. At 7k had traxxion suspension do the front and rear package. It seems to solve the irregular tire wear problem. Run 36/38 now. Hit rain coming home to okc from Atlanta. The bike used to get a little loose in the wet. After the suspension work that is totally gone. I don’t think it is ever recommended to run different mfg front and rear so i will go with a e4 upfront if I can get it to wear out. Another 2k or so.

Mike, I have had nothing but bad luck with Dunlop. I had them on my Electra Glide and Lowrider Harleys. Both delaminated and one had a slit that looked like it was cut with a knife and when I put a screw driver in and lifted the rubber I could see the cords of the tire. My other one had a bulge in the sidewall that rubbed the belt drive. No where near then end of the tire life. I went to Continentals, then Metzlers. Both were better than Dunlops. Only thing was they had a softer compound and didn't get a lot of miles out of them, maybe 10,000. On my Goldwings I tried Dunlop Elite 4s and hated them. Compound was hard and not good on curves, especially in the rain. So with all that being said, I went back to Bridgestones. That is what the Goldwings came with from the factory with. The compound is not hard or soft, it's like in the middle. When you hit the curves hard or ride in the rain, you don't want a hard compound tire. Just my opinion from my experiences.

Hi! I know what you mean about flats, but since I moved to Thailand, people will stop, help you get the tire off and take you to a tire store and wait for you to return and won't take money. I guess that's because Thailand is a scooter culture and they understand problems with motorcycles.

Bought my '08 wing in 2017 and shortly thereafter replaced the worn out (at low miles) Metzlers with the E4s. I got 13,300 out of them but, just like your video showed, the left side of the front tire was worn down while the right side still had plenty of tread left on it. In 35 years of riding I had never had a tire wear like this, and two different Honda shops couldn't explain it. The front tire also had some cupping. I replaced them with another set of E4s and have been running the front with a little higher tire pressure and it looks like I am not going to get near the mileage I did on the first set, but the wear is more even and no cupping. The cost of these tires is ridiculous (mounted $621). I may go to the Bridgestones and see how I like them.

First of all, please tell me you stopped at the Interstate Bar-B-Q on the Arky side of the big muddy! That would make my tummy happy. I've never used Bridgestone except on dump-trucks, I thought the rubber compound was soft and lasted poorly but I can understand soft rubber does provide traction. I ran Dunlops on my last Honda to start with since they came on the bike. I since changed to the Pirelli Scorpion. Altho it is a trail rated tire, the profile is steeper than the Dunlop so it turns quicker, especially in tight reversing curves. Stay safe!

Ran Bridgestone once... felt no difference in performance. But, saw the cord on the rear tire at 9,000 miles. Currently using E4. All my previous E3 got 12K + mileage. Noise, yep... as they get the miles on them. I've had a few different types of tires on my CBR1000RR, typically get 5K out of them. Never have noticed any difference in any of them either. Men tend to want to brag that they use the "best"... whatever they have determined to be the best, in their opinion. Confirmation bias happens when they have a bud that does it too and agrees with everything they say. Put on some gloves, Mike...

Everybody seems so worried about the mileage they get on their tires. Is there anyone out there that's done some actual tests on traction and wet and dry pavement. That to me is more important than the few extra miles you get on a tire. When you're upside down in the ditch your thoughts are not going to be "boy I save some miles on that tire"

Memphis Mike, I am now contemplating my first set of replacement tires for my 2019 Goldwing. I have Bridgestone tires on the bike now and seeing your video and listening to your comments as well as Cruiseman's comments, I think I will stay with Bridgestone. With 9,000 miles on my bike right now, I can see some wear on the front tire but the rear tire looks like it can go for another 3,000-5,000 more miles before replacement. Do you suggest I change both at the same time? Is there a huge mark-up if I purchase them through my local Honda dealer? Personal regards from sunny Melbourne, FL.
