Suggested Tip: IF Lug Nuts are EXTREMELY Tightened Down it is recommended have bike on Kick Stand and break the torque with Wheel on Ground, and then Utilize Lift for an easier job.
Planning to replace both tires. Shops want a lot to take off the wheels and change tires, especially the rear. This looks within my capabilities. Make a trip to Harbor Freight, and I'm going to try it. Thanks.
I have been looking at Goldwing instruction videos for years especially on this type of repair and by far yours is the best on several levels: instructions, tools required and production quality. Excellent work!
The only reason I want to remove my rear tire is for the exact reason you mention at the 6:25 mark...to shine that rim! My rim looks like 40 miles of bad road right now (kind of like the cast of "The View") and I really need to shine it up. It looks pitted and nasty, but I hope that's just surface gunk. If not, I'll just have to get me some new rims!!
These guys are obviously paid ACTORS. NO ONE could be that corny ! HAHA, GREAT JOB GUYS and thank you. I didn't even read a negative comment, YET. And that is unheard of. Your T-shirt is in the mail.
I have had the same bad luck as you as far as picking up nails and stuff in the tires. That is why after doing a year or longer of research I went darkside. I am so glad I did and wish I would have done it the very first time I had to replace a tire. Look I know there are a lot of folks that are dead set against it and that is their choice but for me it works great. Keep up the great vids.
My rear tire is also leaking at the base of the valve stem where it meets the wheel. It looks like there is a joint of some kind there that may have a gasket that is bad. Mine has TPMS and I am also getting a trouble light on the dash. A friend said that the battery may need replaced. Regardless I guess I am going to have to take it off and take it in. Mike where to you take stuff now that Honda/Yamaha of Memphis is closed? They mounted tire for me last time and it's been leaking ever since!
@@MemphisMike901 Greatly appreciate you man. I have both arms back. Need to build strength in my right one but doing well. Rode 250+ miles last Sunday! Met a new group of guys. Will have to you!
Thanks for the video. I just ordered a new rear tire. Unbelievably it will take 4 weeks to get it in. Front tire is new. This will be my first time taking the wheel off and using my J&S jack for the Wing, but it doesn’t look like rocket science.
Great Video Mike and Dano you make it sound so easy. Thanks also I went to Cycle Gear last week and met Brain and he said that you’re good friends I got a jack and I will buy more items. I also ordered another helmet. He was very nice. Thanks Again tell Dano hello.
Dude, this video is picture perfect. I am a new goldwing owner. picked up a gorgeous '08 with 39,500 miles with trailer hitch installed. I was initially going to take off the back panel to expose the tire. Many videos depict this method. None happen to mention it won't work with a hitch installed. I just broke the lug nuts with a breaker bar with the bike on the kickstand and once they were loose, I jacked up the bike to get enough clearance to pull the tire out. Your video gave me the confidence to do this on my own! Thanks, brother!
So glad could help. Congratulations on your 2008. Have about 108k on mine. Just redid both forks new seals/bushings/fluid and front brake pads. Smooth sailing. Ready for a nice trip soon!
I live in Cabot AR. I was just in Memphis two weekends ago on my first mini road trip with this new to me wing. One of my first projects is to change fork oil and add the fork brace. I think it may be a project above my mechanical skills though. I was debating whether it's worth upgrading to the Traxxion suspension if I'm going to redo the forks. Any thoughts?
If you plan to keep that Wing a longtime time YES. I believe Fred Harmon is a Traxxion dealer around Mountain home area. If doing fork oil might as well do seals and bushings while in there. I had a friend do mine
I change all my own tires and the single swing arm is nice! Much easier than my Cavalcade was to change. For whatever reason i always have trouble getting the rim lined back up with the studs but other than that changing the rear goldwing tire is a very easy kid, especially on a lift! Good vid Mike! Randy
Just ordered a J&S Lift last night specifically so I can work on my new (to me) 08 Wing. And my Harley Electra Glide and my-bro-in-laws Road Glide. My son just inherited my old HF lift for his dirt bike. I wish the Harley rear wheel was this easy to yank off
Good vid MM, it's a lot easier that on my Harley. I had to replace the rear speed sensor and just needed to slide the axel out a little. It whooped me good holding that heavy wheel/tire. I will have a Wing soon...
Hey Memphis Mike & Dano. Philly D. here once again Great meeting you guys at Wing Ding and Great job on the how to video on removing the rear tire on the Gl1800 you guys are an inspiration to let fellas know that some work can be done so you can keep a few coins in your pocket looking forward to seeing you guys this year at the 2019 wing ding event in Nashville be safe Philly D. Out 👍👍 ps.i also did both of my tires mounted and balanced myself.
Double M! Was just thinking I had not seen a video from you in a bit. We are about to get hammered with snow. Looking forward to being in you neighborhood first full week of September. Stay safe. LTMV & UNT;;;
Good vid man. I love my bike jack. Not a pit bull but still easy to use. I’ve got 2 fat girls to lift up and keep up with. Need to get the goldwing up in the air and hit those wheels soon and get those foot pegs mounted that I got from you lol.
@@MemphisMike901 I just bought a set for my wing. No more balance beads or stick on weights. Tires balanced are great but will come out of balance within a few thousand miles. With centramatics you never have to balance them again, which means less or no cupping and longer mileage out of a set of tires. Rick at Wingstuff swears by them.
Awwwe yeahhh! The Mikey & Danno man cave show! Great video boyz. Mikey I’m real proud of you for keep’n some tread on that rear tire, and for Danno keep’n you square. Nice job to you both. Keep’n it safe & real out there cousins. 👍🏻 (We all cousins out in the country) 😂
Mike you got that Bike CLEANNNNNNNN!!! I have a jack similar to that one but I have to figure out what adapter I need to jack the F6B. Thanks for the Vid man. I see you Sipping LOL.
I always say..You got time to RIDE, you got time to CLEAN! Hopefully the Review/Demo of the Pitbull to come soon. that was the original plan this weekend but only had time to knock out the tire vid.
A Breaker Bar is for those without a Tire Changing Battery impact Gun....................... Manual Power vs Trigger Power. My winner??? trigger power. with a universal
Hey mike I wasn’t trying to troll you on the straps. 😎. Was actually curious if you’d need them. Keep up the way you’re going you won’t have to worry about riding on your cords again. Wings really do have a great tire mounting system.
I have a craftsman bike jack similar to mike and I didnt use straps. I would recommend trying to break the lugs with the bike on the kickstand and then using the jack to get clearance to pull the tire out.
My 2003 GL1800 rear lug nuts are stuck in a big way. I've tried everything I can think of to break them lose. I've tried several "break free" products, 1/2" drive impact wrench, whacking the end with a drift punch, etc. I have yet to try a 3ft cheaper, fearing I'll break the lug bolt or heat (torch) for fear of damaging something unseen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Nice video MM! Im with you in not laying my Wing on its side to remove the tire. It appears like your rear crash bar is loose when Dano tested the strap......could be his manly muscle though. Keep the vids coming!
@@MemphisMike901 I want to see that too, and may mention something about the covers if people have them. My cover doesn't have those louvers I just drilled vent holes, so it probably doesn't matter. You may want to do that wiggle / giggle demo again like Danno did too. Thanks
Is a great video THANKS.... I hope my poor's man MC lift can get the bike high enough. I can't afford the pitbull lift.. I will add some sturdy wood to gain an inch or two and then slide it in a angle. Thanks for the video again!
How do you like the Elite 4? I had an Elite 3 on the VT1300 Stateline I traded in for my F6B and loved it. I am considering swapping my OEM Bridgestone for the Elite 4 in a few months when I replace my rear tire.
Any idea where I can get the lower lighted skirt just above the exhaust system? For the life of me I can not find one!!!!! Id even be happy with just the chrome one.......Thanks for the video guys. This will make it so easy to remove my tire on my lift.......
I seen a guy lay it over take it off leave the bike on the side of the highway got the tire changed back to the highway back on the bike. 30 min lol Why I bought a 02 gl1800 and not the 1500.
You know Mike you don't have to lay it down in the grass you could lay it down in your garage on a rug. You could even use a expensive rug if you like. Obviously you have a jack but if you didn't you could still get that wheel off.
Hi Mike. Great video. Do you think a lift that will raise the ‘Wing approximately 16” is enough to drop the wheel and remove it without having to remove the fender section and pull the wheel out the back on an ‘06 Goldwing?
Yo Memphis Mike….I got my bike on it’s center stand and took off the rear access panel to attempt to pull it right out the back. Think I’ll have any issues?
@@dansmith3141 it that tenn mud you have up there lol joke never had that with mine 2nd set first 18,000 and 2nd rear 20,000 yes no joke love them that dragon up there is nothing to our 3 twisted sisters road down here meet you and mike up at ding enjoyed yall guys ride safe
DO NOT ANTISIEZE YOUR LUG NUTS! MASSIVE SAFETY ISSUE!!! LUG NUTS HAVE A TORQUE SPEC (every nut and bolt does, but the ones that hold your tires should be TIGHT!) I liked the video until I saw that. Working professionally in the mechanical field when cars with antiseize on their lug nuts come in, we kick them as soon as we see it. Or charge to clean it off. You can't get proper torque with antiseize on them. Not only that, but you could have them back off the stud while driving.
I learned the hard way I didn't even get 5 blocks from my house and a lug nut came rolling down the road next to me I will never put antisieze on lug nuts ever again Didn't lose the lug nut but I removed the antiseize and put marks on the lugs nuts so I could see any loosening. Thank God that used BMW K 1200 2001 came with a Tool kit.
