This video shows how to replace the battery in a Honda key. The battery is a CR1616 in this particular key. Please be careful with these types of batteries as they can be fatal if swallowed! Brought to you by www.ultimatehan...
@jsmithnevinsky Are you stupid or something? These batteries have been swallowed by children, who have subsequently died due to the injuries sustained and you come on here thinking you are some kind of hard man.
I think it may be law that any toys that use button cell batteries have a fastener holding battery compartment closed. Lithium and Mercury are in these things I think.
daikaiju20 Thanks for the comments. I have an 18 month old daughter and she is constantly putting small coins etc. in her mouth. Since finding out about the batteries being fatal if swallowed I now keep them well out of the way!
***** I realize she'll now be 24months but still a danger: magnetic toys... if swallowed the magnets can snap together and cause a perforation in the gut, not pleasant
***** Absolutely, at that age they do not know what danger is. Only yesterday she was left on her own in the playroom ( I was working on the computer and thought she was with mum - mum thought she was with me). She climbed up onto the table and grabbed a container full of blue poster paint, removed the lid and then smeared it all over her legs- she looked like a smurf! Thanks for the comments
Great video explaining clearly. My both keys batteries have been died. Ordered a couple online and it should not be a problem replacing them after your video. Not sure why some sad people would dislike it?!!
Probably someone who works in 1 of those Plaza/Mall "key" kiosks who would charge you another $50 on top of a $5-$10 battery, depending on where you bought the battery and how many you bought.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. I followed your "easy to follow" instructions and replaced both key batteries without problem. I am most grateful and recommend the vid. Thumbs up!!
Oops, I wish I’d watched this twenty minutes ago! I tried really hard with a small screwdriver to get into the key fob. Pressed so hard, it slipped and I stabbed myself in the stomach 😢 dirty great blue bruise and some blood - duh Anyway, then I couldn’t understand what was going on inside, so I came to my trusty RU-vid teacher. Absolutely brilliant video and so helpful - now what can I do about the stab wound?!!! 😂😂😂 Bless you for taking the time ❤
Good stuff so helpful and clear thanks. How long normally would these batteries last? And is it a case of a straight swap over and away we go? I only ask as in my old Ford the central locking needed to be reprogrammed etc so I didnt bother and left it open lol .
Ive had to do this at least twice with a four year old Toyota Hilux. Very inconvenient on both occasions when it failed. Best to change every two years regardless.
Hi my screw has come out my key, and was just wandering what type of screw it is and where I'm able to purchase one. It's exactly the same as the one on the video. Thanks
My Mom destroyed her fob; it is identical to the one you show here. Can you say or do you know if I'll have to go through a dealership to get her a new one, just like this? Thanks
Many thanks for this well explained and clear video, which has saved me a lot of time and hassle wondering how to do it. Literally done it a minute or so after watching this, thanks again.
No, you only need to program a new one. It looks like the key fob might not be working, I would suggest trying the spare key (if you have one) Thanks for the comment 👍
***** Probably an old wives tale. Have a great xmas there with your family and thanks again for upload as i just did mine and working great, so now have a spare one which is always handy.
Here is the REAL advice about removing the little Honda remote key screw This is the ABSOLUTE ADVISE do this and you will remove it nicely the first time, and keep the same screw forever, unless you really want to spend your money and buy a new one from the dealer for 2$, or worse reprogram a new key for $125 or more (Unless of course the head of the screw has been damaged already in which case you'll use a rotary tool to remove the head of this screw. The grinder bit or drill bit should be the same size as the screw body. Do not force it, do it gently until the head is gone, let the weight of the rotary tool do the job) If the head of the screw is OK and not stripped as it should be, then do this: Get a Q Tip cotton swab and put some W40 oil on it , then touch the head of the screw with it and, if you want, on the side near the screw where the black plastic touches the metal of the key and tilt the key and let the oil run towards the body of the screw. Not too much W40 oil . Wait 15 minutes and then get a Phillips precision screwdriver SIZE 00, secure the key down and insert the tip of the screw driver on the head of the screw as close to 90 angle as you can. Put a fair amount of pressure down on the screwdriver , not too much but also not wimpy, and then slowly but firmly start turning the screwdriver anti clock wise . You will notice the head moving a bit hard at the very beginning and then normal. Once the screw is out and you have separated the 2 plastic covers a little bit, DON'T continue to separate them all the way, but rather pull the the one plastic cover w/ out the buttons toward the front of the key, and that will completely separate them. If you continue to separate them it will probably break the tab in the back, inside. ALL THAT OF HEATING THE KEY WITH A LIGHTER, HAIR DRYER, FLAME, SOLDERING PEN ETC TO LOOSEN THE LOCTITE , EXPAND THE METAL ETC, IS NOT NECESSARY., IF YOU DO AS ABOVE. I have done 9 of these Honda keys in the last 2 years and, and I did not mess up any of them REMEMBER : Precision screwdriver no. 00 NOT 0 or 000 Good luck
@@IndieButterflyWarrior I had problems with one of these keys and had to revert to tools- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q6gehydy70k.html&t
@@ultimatehandyman thank you so much. While I was watching your useful video, my wife took the key to timpson and had the battery changed although I ordered the battery from ebay. I need my car hence new battery. However, I now know how to change the battery. Thank you so much for sharing such invaluable information.
