I bought one, non abs. Im 56, with a little chub in the "old mid section", but love the feel of the bike, and the fun to ride it. In essence, I get to be a "kid" again. Thank you Honda.

This argument doesn't fly for me. The $1,000 phone is basically a super computer in your pocket. You can do almost anything with it. It is a phone, a tv, a computer and a camera all in one. I happily pay that price for an amazing piece of technology every two years. As far as the price of the Monkey, I feel it is slightly steep compared to other bikes but I am still happy with mine and love it.

I had one of those, paid $100Aus for it, quite collectable nowadays..

There and back again I don't know what you're talking about. I'm 6'0 and 220lbs, the seats totally fine. The suspension is sure light though. But who cares, run it hard and upgrade with the volumes of available parts if you want.

Dont forget the Kawasaki Z125. Im 6'2", 250 lbs and the Kawasaki fit me much better than the Grom. The Kaw also has stiffer forks.

I own a 2017 Grom. 4k miles on it, still going strong.

This is it for me. I just wouldn't buy it on priciple. Its super low tech, mad of obviously small materials and yet is one of the most expensive 125's because they know people will pay because it's "cute". Yes it has ABS, but so does everything, because that's the law now.

It costs a little bit more than the grom and has better suspension, and uses metal instead of plastic.

You assume that the Grom was not also overpriced

Yep, too expensive. Little better than a scooter with those small wheels, as far as handling goes. The should have 250cc' d it and scaled it up a bit. Missed oportunity.

tbf with its cheap ass engine tech, if they made it a 250, it would still only be a little bit more powerful than a honda shadow 125, or most of the sports 125's - the R125/RC125/Gixxer125, etc, and to be fair they're all 15hp because that's the A1 limit. Kinda reminds me of the suzuki Tu250x - been around forever, 25 year old tech, yet priced WAY higher than pretty much any of it's modern competators and almost as much as a ninja 400 lol. It's a solid bike, good for commuting and learning, with good looks and fuel economy, but the money they charge for it is a joke - drum brakes and most every other 250 on the market makes at least 50% more than it's 16hp,;sports 250's make double lol. Buyers should benefit from the age of the bike - lower production costs, no real development costs, etc, but instead it's just expensive. That's how I feel about the monkey - it's just not worth the money they're asking. The most advanced thing on it is the braking system and that's only there because the EU made them do it ol, and as we know from other bikes isn't actually expensive for 125's. It's cute, it's fun, but I'm not giving you a 100% at least tip on your usual profit margin just because you think I'll pay it.

No it can go 63, depending on your weight. 50 mph for someone who weighs 120kg is about the speed you can RELY on getting unless the hill is ridiculous. The speed a 5'9" 70kg kid can get full tuck with a slight tailwind on perfectly flat ground a couple of times is irrelevant here. for most rides 55mph should hopefully be achievable at 120kg, but when you're looking to invest thousands of dollars into a bike you want the honest, most likely reality of what you can expect. I've had a lot of 125's over the years and there's this attitude with sub 250cc bikes to totally overhype how fast they actually go or ignore how slow they are on hills, carrying weight etc. but that's the actual reality of riding them. In the youtube age it's to find the video of the bike going the absolute fastest and say that's how fast the bike goes instead of that one guy was able to get get the bike up to that speed that one time. You set the expectation low for someone buying them so that it can surprise them, you don't over sell it promising things it simply isn't going to do 99% of the time and leave them disappointed. This bike is not getting someone who's 120kg to 63mph unless it's down hill.

Probably so. Sometimes I think about race vehicles and how they have no aides to the driver at all. And they are driven very fast in super dangerous conditions. LOL

If I got a pound for every time someone told me I was being paid to say nice things in reviews, I wouldn't have to accept manufacturer's kickbacks. Joking aside, sure you might not ever need the anti-tilt ABS but that one time something jumps out on you and you grab a handful of lever, you'll be glad you had it.

I have a 97 vulcan 500. No abs, no gear indicators, no tach, etc. You learn how to ride and when and when not to use which brakes. Your brain is a pretty good computer.

And if you never had it, you'd learn how to ride that bike without it. I don't even think it's a bad thing, I just object to reviewers justifying technology by saying it's needed when it isn't needed. When's the last time you endoed a bike, any bike? I've never done it once and I've had street bikes and dirt bikes. And as a teen I rode super aggressively and I never came close to doing that. I always put the back brake on first and then add front carefully. And likely you do too although you might put them on together. I don't even take that chance, always back first for me.
