Join us on our 8 day trip around England, Wales and Scotland on the Honda monkey z125. Epic adventures and funny moments. To name a few places, Snowdonia, HardKnott Pass, NC 500, Jon o’ Groats. Let the journey commence……
Hi - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I have a yellow 2020 4 speed Monkey with 12500 miles up. I had a 25 litre top box fitted and my carrier cracked so I'm intrigued as to what carriers you have that can take that weight. Also, the Monkey payload is 105kg so you must be featherweights! I only use E5 fuel with stabiliser added and have averaged 153mpg to date. I change the oil every 1000 miles and swap over chains that are then cleaned and boiled in grease. I also run a colder plug for long runs when Monkey does get hot buzzing around the West Donegal hills.
Hi pal cheers for the comment. Glad you’re a fellow monkey rider too! I made the rack on the bikes, happy to share all the info on it if you message us on are Facebook page teamcarbonair. There was a recall for the racks on the 4 speeds. We both weigh about 85 to 90kg. E5 stay alive haha. Nice to hear your on the servicing it is a must!
Stunning little bikes. I live in Thailand. They are so much cheaper here. I just wish they were 150cc and had 14'' wheels. Do they feel stable enough? Your bikes sound so good. I like the bars. Can you see the speedo? Looks dull. Good video. Nick
Hi nick, thanks for the comment! New in uk they range from £3300 -£4k. There all 125cc but the 4 speed have a big bore option of 149cc 164cc 181cc. The 5 speed have a big bore option of 145cc. The wheels for a monkey bikes 12” wheels are big! Old monkeys range from 6” 8” 10” wheels so 12” look big to me. The bikes feel great to ride once the suspension is up graded and some good grippy tyres are done. I also changed the bars just didn’t like the stock ones at all. Yes the Speedo is easy to read think it’s just the camera that struggled to see it in the walk round video we done. Glad you like the video. Cheers CA
*10:25** Don't be hogging the centre line on right hand bends, get to the left to give a longer view. There's always a bellend coming the other way. You've got restricted view to start with on a bike so low to the ground.*
Brilliant. I had a Grom for a few years, did more miles on it than the MT09 I had at the time. I thought Lancaster to the lakes and around Wrynose and Hardknott pass was a trip.
This is awesome guys 😎😎 watched both vids I actually live in Aberdeen and planning a trip around the coast on my zontes zt125-u1 as I've had it 2 and half yrs now and it's proving the test of time so far touch wood, so I think it needs to prove it's worthiness on a long run after seeing a few of monkeys doing it 👌👌 gave me a confidence boost for sure, take care guys and can't wait for the other vids 😎😎
Loving this. I’ve just got my monkey and tragically hasn’t left the garage yet. Though I wouldn’t have thought it would be up for such a grand tour. This has changed my thinking. Question being what mods have you done to the performance if any? Would a stocker survive such an adventure?
@@InTheLockerRoom these monkeys are so capable! We have changed intake induction to let them breath and have changed the exhausts to match the flow in and out. Sprockets are something to change top end or acceleration. A stock monkey will always be the most reliable, just nice to unlock a bit of power and good to be heard with the bigger pipes being on such small bikes. Get yours out and find your adventure!!
Fantastic mate love it , I've got 2 groms both modified , ive just returned from Portugal back home in brum should have gone on my aprilla tuono factory but got worried about reliability so I went on my Honda adv 350 absolutely brilliant scooter to tour on , in the picos mountains there was a yellow Honda grom probably 2015 fully loaded with kit and he travelled from Italy , it just goes to show you don't need a big bike to travel big distances, but I did miss my aprillas power ❤ subscribed after this 😉
The Honda groms are awesome, there’s so much you can do on the smaller bikes. We like the big bikes to but do like a challenge! Portugal is on the todo list. The next trip will be Italy and Switzerland next month. Cheers for the support 👍 would love to see your groms!
I work in the motor trade and e10 has been a common problem in customers cars so we try to use E5 but at times there’s only e10 so got to go with the flow sometimes. Cheers for the support pal!
Always found with the tiny lower powered bikes that aerodynamics were paramount, especially at the higher speeds. A front screen makes a world of difference. No mirrors at all isnt cool. Good luck with the trip.
The big blocks are cool till the wet. But good if your riding roads and trails. Look cool too. The stock tyres are on but now on the city grips the handling responce is better and good in the wet.
@@carbonairpitbikes Keep it up mate this is very inspiring, I know on the last one you said you'd never do it again on a monkey, But you have collected some amazing memories on this one.. Remember the slower the bike the more you see....... 😉👍🏻
Honestly I would do it again on the monkey, the next tour is Italy and Switzerland so getting the monkey ready for that now! As they say good things come in small sizes! The memories, the views, monkeys! Couldn’t agree more pal👌
@@allieandmaria there is on the 4 speeds but nothing on the 5 speeds yet. Tho Honda recalled my crf110 for a loose left handle grip! It’s the first thing you change when buying one!
@@carbonairpitbikeslove the monkeys. Have you modified them to get up to 70mph on motorway. I’m thinking about buying one but can’t get a solid figure on top speed and good cruise speed of a factory model. What’s your opinion? Wales great btw. I’ve a narrow boat in Brecon hence need for a small light bike. Cheers for the great videos.
@@soundmachinesingingcrew5814 - Big Rodders in Ireland here. I've done 14,500 Mike's on my 4 speed Monkey. Realistic touring speed is a GPS 50mph but preferably 45 to 50 - its geared for exactly 60mph in top gear at max power. I've had it up to an indicated 67mph but no way can you maintain anywhere near that. If you want to go faster you'd better buy a bigger bike. The 5 speed model is also geared exactly the same in top as the 4 speed, despite comments to the contrary on RU-vid.
@@rodneysweetnam8653 Many, many thanks. That makes all clear. It was difficult to tell from all the different sources because many have been modified for more speed and as per your response, I don’t want to thrash a machine at full throttle all the time. I know what I’m working with now. Many thanks again.
@@soundmachinesingingcrew5814 - Big Rodders again. The Monkey is a very serious motorcycle if you accept it's an 9.6hp engine. It's the most comfortable bike I've owned in 55 years of riding. I frequently do 150 mile trips and arrive exhilerated with little discomfort. I cruise at 2/3 to 3/4 throttle at speeds ranging between GPS 40 & 50 mph depending on winds and inclines. I've averaged 153 mpg over 14k mile and change oil/swap chain every 1000 miles. Its definitely a keeper.
