Comparison between Honda NC750X, X-ADV and Africa Twin. And why I chose the NC750X. The weight of the NC750X DCT in the comparison should be 230kg and not 220kg, my misstake.
I did the mistake to choose the Africa Twin Adventure Sport in 2018. I am 1.83m but the seat height was a nightmare to deal with, even in low position. I thought I would benefit a lot from the engine, the comfort and the protection, but at the end I sold it because of its manoeuvrability.
DCT is super easy to ride, and good economy is practical. If it’s practicality and value you want, it’s the clear winner. If you want more power and the joy of shifting then maybe not the one. Great commuter!
greetings from Greece. i have a nc750x 2015 and as you said i had to spend some money to be more comfy. also i agree that for daily use the nc is the best choice. how many times you will go to dirt? small trips all around and possible one big trip every year. i must say also that its not only how much it cost every bike but also the services and the spare parts. i dont know if honda make a transalp or A.T on 2021 with 850cc engine but i believe many of us will wait to see what honda will do...i hope either a smaller A.T with normal price either an nc with a little bit more h.p and kw.
Ye. I too bought the NC750, but it was not the price that decided. Yes it has simple shocks and not so much power, however it is easier to drag arround than an MT07. I raised the wind shield and mounted a center stand.... It is the EASIEST bike on twisties. x2 easier than Tenere 700, or even CB500X ❗ I thought to get smt more powerful this year, but today I find NOTHING I like this bike, with better shocks, on the marked. So for now I keep this one ☝️😃
Discovered this video after purchasing 21 NC and I am glad to do it. My thoughts were suspiciously similar to you. Africa over budget dream, ADV - not sure if fits me and after first ride with NC everything was clear. As you mention - despite I am absolutely new rider - I am not afraid to go hard offroad with NC. I feel like on mountbike twenty years ago. Only difference is I don't have to paddle to last breath uphill :-) And I love that NC responses to body - hip - or if you want to hear it - butt movements. So easy to navigate bike where you want...
Great video! I also chose the NC. We can’t get the XADV here in the states, so it was between the AT and the NC. I live in the far suburbs of Detroit and ride mostly city and highways for my commute. The AT is sweet, but not very practical for my needs. I picked up an 18 DCT brand new for just under $7,000. Fantastic bike!
The X-ADV, is not available in Australia at this time, I think it would be interesting to try out. The NC750 X is the one I would choose for it's easy going flexibility, weight and the accessories range is well established for the bike. The Africa Twin looks an awesome thing, though I have never been a fan, of large off roaders, I like the smaller, more maneuverable bikes, having owned two KLR 650s they have their quirks but I had a really good run with them. As one gets older, priorities change, weight, height, ease of rider comfort, for me the Honda NC 750 X is ideal.
Hello FinnMike, Really enjoyed this correct review. I like all your video’s, please continue that fine work. I ride the 2019 NC DCT in matt black, with black rims. I think the best colour match, only produced in 2019. I have 2 minor remarks. The weight of the NC is 220 kg with manual clutch, it’s 230 kg with DCT. There are 2 versions of the AT, the normal and the adventure. Is the price correct? I assume you rode the adventure version, the normal is less intimidating and less high and cheaper. I fully agree with your conclusion. Maybe you could add the benefit of the frunk. Ideal for daily rides and commutes. I would only prefer 10-15 more HP for on the Highway. Torque is ok. Thanks, Paul from Holland
Hello Paul, The matt black is a nice color but the changed it to glossy for 2020. You are absolutely right about the weight, I looked at the wrong specs sheet, it's 230kg for the DCT model. The AT is the most expensive model CRF1100L, I did mention in the video that it's the one with all accessories like electronic suspension and so on. My thought was that if you go the AT way you go all the way :-) The price of the bike varies a lot depending on where you ask, but it should be around 19.000€. Thanks for your remarks! Ride safe!!
If Honda would offer a 19" front wheel like on the CB500X then the NC750X could really be a strong choice for a mid range adventure bike. It has such a good engine and is so nimble to ride, it's really a shame they don't offer that wheel size as an option. As it stands it is a great commuter that can handle very light offroad. I'm excited to see what Honda does in 2021 with the Africa Twin 800.
I also debated between the NC 750 and the Africa Twin. Both bikes have a lot of promise. I found a new 2018 AT in Nov 2019 and I bought it. I'm short 5'4" and old (65) so the bike can be challenging to ride. I have installed the lower seat and bar risers that bring the bars closer and it feels much better. My last bike was a Road King which I owned for 10 years. When I first bought it, it was a challenge too. Enjoy your NC 750 I'm sure I would have enjoyed it as well.
Hello Gerald, Thanks for your comment. The AT is technically a better bike, and if you got it for a good price then even better. Enjoy your AT, it is an awesome bike :-) And by the way ... I'm not so young myself ... :-)
I would choose the NC750X. The Africa Twin is too expensive, and is more for offroading. The X-ADV i dont really like the scooter looks either. I am a cruiser type of guy normally, but soon when i can get my license i am probably going to buy the NC750X. Almost all channels i see about this bike, only good things with it and only a few minor bad things like the seat or stock screen.
16K miles on mine in 22 months, DCT is superb, great fuel economy when I ride reasonably, which is most of the time. Handles well and it’s quick enough when I want it to be.
@@stevebolton8471 DCT eases the riding i know, but im gonna get the non DCT version though :p its like with cars, i prefer manual over automatic. Normally i would have had my license next saturday, but because of the lockdown in Belgium my lessons were cancelled -_- Like i said, im a cruiser type but vids from FinnMike and GeoAlex made me love the NC more now. Im gonna get it hopefully soon ;)
Asathor Arthas Yes it’s a shame to have to wait longer with the weather improving. Unlike scooters you get to choose DCT or not. I rode the manual in Gran Canaria last year and it was great.
Thanks for this review. I'm seriously considering getting an NC750X to ride across the US next summer. Your video has pushed me closer to the edge of buying one. Unfortunately they're not popular in the US, none of the dealers in my area have one. Your assessment helps.
Hello, excellent comparison between these motorcycle models. I have a 2017 NC and I have traveled a lot with her (always accompanied by my wife) and we are very happy with her. It is an ideal motorcycle for quiet travel. Greetings from Argentina.
Thank You for an earnest and well done review we have X-ADV 750 and agree fully with you i changed the dog bones on the rear, and lowered the bike 30 mm in the back and 15 mm on the up and down forks in the front. When mounting crash-bars on this bike you have to think twice before you buy this the Givi crash-bar has a pipe connecting the left and right bar this make it possible to cut the back section on the crash-bar and you can then stand flatfooted on the grund we tried mounting a pair of aftermarket foot pegs but have removed them again because you need every centimeter of space for your legs where they are. The gearbox are absolutely wonderful and the bike has more than enough power for our needs. The X-ADV do not sell well in our country so we bought a new 2017 years model this year for a reduced price.
Thanks for the comment, lowering the bike a bit could definitely make it easier to handle in difficult situations. But over all it's a very good bike. Enjoy your bike and ride safe! 👍
112deeps good luck, you get a good center stand on the XADV and smart 🔑 key 🔐 that makes the absolute solution off easy handling, sprocket whels and up and down front forks, but do not expect any old bikers to accept your MC choice , because many are actually extremely conservative when it comes to design and transmission 👍
Africa twin to big, looking forward to see 850 Africa Twin but hope it’s not to heavey and they use a alloy frame, it not why change, also with more driving aids and cruise control. But I fear it will be too expensive.
You said it yourself : the Nc750x it's the "Ideal Bike" 😁 So was also my choice! At this moment there is no motorcycle on the market to offer such a great "package" as the Nc750x : price, fuel consumption, dct gearbox, road /off-road performance, handling and power. If you find another bike with this package I will buy it right away!
Good summary. I loved the 2020 Africa Twin, but I can't afford it. Have you seen that Honda are launching an NC engine based (at around 800cc) mid-range Africa Twin this Autumn (if the rumours are correct). This could be a winner as long as it is not too expensive. It will be Euro 5.
I have heard the rumours, but it is not confirmed yet. I am very interested in it if it's true. Back in the days I had a Transalp which I liked very much, but it is so dated now, the rumoured AT could be a replacement 👍
FinnMike on a Bike The Transalp were produced in Italy so i doesn’t think they will build on it A 800 NC X DCT with up and down front forks 19” front wheel spoked wheels with tubeless tires and Smart-key 30 kg less weight would be interesting.
I love this bikes. Honda understands the future and have a goof plans. DCT (or similar), multiporpuse systems, hards, and cheap services bikes must be the most sold in 2020.
I would also choose the NC 750 x. I have not ridden a DCT bike yet. My main reasons are fuel economy, low center of gravity and sufficient versatility to ride on gravel roads and possibly more challenging terrain.
As much as I know the X-adv is 13250 euros, and the only real advantage it has over the NC750X is the front brakes and the fork. The adjustable windshield is so tiny, it doesn't count. With little money, an adjustable mount can be purchased for the NC too.. from 8650 to 13250 euros, the difference is too important, to even think about buying an X-ADV.
an excellent review, I have an nc750x and I am extremely happy with it for the reasons you mention. keep the reviews coming best wishes and thanks Kevin
Hola Finnmake!I,m from Finland too and twice from Fin to Benalmadena Spa.2017 model and now i have 38000.No problem at all and i bought extra foot pegs. When you have the pegs there is several option to keep your feets, good for longdistance riding. Thanks for your informative rewiev.Stay save and healthy.
Nice comparison video! 2017 Africa twin owner, it is a top-heavy machine but best for tall riders. I found the NC 750X too small between seat and pegs.
Thanks, the NC is actually too small for mee too, but the AT was out of my budget so I went for the NC with some modifications to make it more comfortable for me.
I bought the X-ADV a few months ago since I had to travel back and forth to my Grandma's house and the road going to her house is somewhat a little bit to the off beaten track. Aside from that, the comfort of a scooter is there, I was looking at the Kymco AK550 but that scooter cant handle dirt roads with big rocks. The X-ADV is a joy to ride on those beaten tracks but again, like what you said, it all depends on the taste of the rider and how deep your pockets are.
I have a 2015 nc dct chosen price and lower weight, Changed tyres for mt60’s and larger screen, would like an even bigger screen but not found one that works better.
Go check out Madstadd. You can get whatever height you need and the little wings that go with it are very protective and deflect a lot of wind down near the tank. I got 22 inch height because i am 6'1" and in the low position i can see over it. I can easily move it up for more protection from rain or cold wind. It also tilts and fully tilted and lowered i get plenty of cooling air for hot summers. I have had it two years and really like it a lot. It is worth every penny.
Mike, I looked for awhile for a used NC700X or NC750X DCT, for the frivolous reason that I didn't really like the 2020 black on black paint scheme. I also wasn't sure I'd like the bike, so buying used seemed a good bet. I missed a few locally on Craigslist and CycleTrader, but most were either too close in price to a new bike, or too many miles. I kept widening my search outward from Seattle, until finally I found one down in Tucson, Arizona - 2,600 km away! This was just as the novel coronavirus was getting started here in the US, so we weren't locked down yet. I talked to the owner - a retired schoolteacher who seemed very straightforward - so I got a cheap air flight from Seattle to Tucson the next day, met him at the airport, rode the bike (like new, 6,200 miles, recently serviced, factory heated grips and powerport, SW-Mototech skid plate, factory centerstand, factory side cases and trunk, fresh Shinko 705's), exchanged money ($3,500) and off I rode toward Seattle. I had to get over the Siskiyou Summit on Interstate-5 by Saturday (it was Tuesday afternoon when I bought the bike) or I would get snowed on. There was a good weather window until Saturday. This was the last week of February. A video along the way: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UCW3BRwU7y0.html The previous owner said he had installed the skidplate, and with the factory centerstand which was already installed, he had to take a grinder and buzz off a small section so it would fit. He said it was easy, and he really liked the skidplate - very protective, and just four bolts to remove for servicing. It also doesn't reduce ground clearance much. So far it's worked well on the gravel roads I've ridden on - much pinging of stones on it, so it seems to be doing the job. I am not interested in riding single-track or anything technical, so it works for me. Thanks for your informative videos - much appreciated! -Tom
Hi! Very nice comparisson. Would you recommend your NC for a beginner rider but with A license (162 CMS tall and 75kgs)? Have any idea if is coming any Honda custom bike with DCT shortly? I was thinking of Kawasaki Vulcan 650S really... But your video has made me to rethink everything again... I'm 50 y.o. Thanks for sharing You All your thoughts. Bst Rgds from ALC, Spain 😎
Hi!, I would definitely recommend the NC for a beginner. You might want to install a lowering kit if you are 162cm and a beginner, so that you are able to flat foot the bike. It is not a complicated installation and it can be removed when you feel more confident. Honda doesn't have any custom bike with DCT, they tried a few years with the CTX700DCT, but it was discontinued. powersports.honda.com/street/touring/ctx700?year=2018
I have owned the integra 750 and the africa twin 2018. AT engine much more fun and cornering much easier. But the AT is for tall fellows. I dont regret in any way the change for AT. Great bike.
I had the NC750x for 1year did everything I wanted it to but I found it a dull bike very quickly, not a bike to go and play on especially with the small rev range. I traded it in for a Africa twin, took about a week to get used to it but now I throw it into corners with easy and come out with a smile, I have had the AT 3 years now. The biggest disappointment with the AT is the finish. Mine lives outside and the rust on all the wields is a joke. Lol I have now stopped caring abit it and just enjoy the ride
Thanks. I'm debating these bikes too and I'm also afraid the NC would be "dull" and under powered. You just confirmed it for me. To me the AT makes sense because it's only slightly heavier but almost twice the horsepower. Thanks!
@hazzerhazzer2741, Is the AT suitable for daily commuters? This review says that it is suitable for highway riding but too heavy and tiring on a short journey, do you feel the same?
Hi. It´s difficult to find a video of the NC750X with your upgrades and this comparation with the xadv gras great for me. I want to change my old byke and the two I have in my last option are the XADV ant the NCX. I can only proof the xadv because here in Palma de Mallorca doesn´t have a ncx 750 for the proof. You´re lucky in Malaga. Here they have 12 motorbikes for proving but not an ncx. I can only seat on a sttoped one. I can´t really have an idea about one important question for me: the comfort of the seat. In your video you said that the AT is so comfortable. Can you give me your personal experiencie with the comfort on the NCX please??. Gracias y saludos
The seat of the NC is too hard for longer rides, the X-ADV seat is much softer. But I liked the NC more as a bike, so I bought it and replaced the seat with a softer one. Now it is very comfortable for me. It is very easy to change the seat. I'm sorry to hear that they don't have a NC to try over there. They are both very good bikes so which ever you choose I'm sure you will be happy with it 👍
I chose the nc750xd as my left ankle is f'd up. I am a beginner and this bike is easy for me to manage and learn on. I am slowly adding thinks as I determine I need them crash bars and radiator protection are first up
Nice comparison! I ride the S it has even less wind protection, but only on the autobahn over 120kph i feel a lack of it, and mainly because of the noise. The NCs are not that small, when you park them beside a SV650 or MT-07 :D
I surely thank you for this video. I have owned and just recently (about a week ago) my '18 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT. I loved that bike. Without going into a lot of details, I'm 6' 2 1/2" and around 245 lbs and that bike was just plain too big for me. Way too top heavy. So, after 2.5 years of ownership, I decided to sell it. I am within just a couple of days of purchasing a '20 NC750X DCT. I've not tested one out so, it's gonna be a new experience. We'll see. Thanks again. SR
Took me about 6 months to get used to my 2018 ATAS. It's a formidable bike if you're used to riding mid-sized bikes. It's big. It's tall. It's heavy. But once you hit that sweet spot (for me on a road trip in the Alps) there's just nothing like it. Not quite as nimble as my Tracer 700. Like comparing a Mini Cooper with Clarkson's Bentley Continental! And I bought mine 2nd hand so didn't pay an extortionate amount for an absolutely amazing machine. No DCT but thinking about fitting a quick-shifter....
Hey mate, Great review, did you try the manual gearbox on the NC at all?, I want a 2020 NC but not sure which box, dont kbow how good/responsive/reliable the autobox is.
I didn't try the manual box at all. I have had the DCT model before and I'm confident that it is reliable. I've red about DCT models that have over 100.000km on the meter.
I have the manual box, the manual is extremely smooth and shifts fantastic. I enjoy the extra bit of control but the DCT version is so easy and comfortable.
DCT is amazing and not heard of any stories of any dct failures. On long trips its wrist finger saver. IMO only thing missing as tourer is cruise control and heated grips and good seat mine in 2017 model became firm after some hours on it, use padded cycling shorts on long trips. Seriously good bike. 80 mpg consistently. Around 220-230 miles on full tank
Hello Andy, I almos went with the X-ADV, it's a very good bike. We have a small 125cc scooter in the family for cruising in town, without that I might have bought the X-ADV.
I test rode an Africa Twin today. It is HUGE and feels like it at low speeds. Like you said about high speed it is fantastic. But if I am afraid to drop it, then I shouldn't have it. So I came looking. I will now test ride an NC750X, the ADV is not available in the US.
I think the best new ADV next year will be the HONDA Africa Twin 850. Apparently, it will be putting out approximately 78hp, weigh 211kg wet. It will have identical ergonomics to its bigger sibling and possibly be coming out in the tricolor and red/white/black colors of the earlier versions (with minor graphic changes). To cut costs it is assumed these will not be lacquered over. The old soft suspension will hopefully be gone, and firmer, controlled Showa gear will be keeping the bike in connection with the ground (all fully adjustable for preload and damping). They are supposedly bringing it out in two versions - One version only sporting switchable ABS and no other rider aides (To attract riders away from the T7). The other version will be an up-spec version with similar electronics to the newer 1100 for those who like all the tech. Retail will be around $750US more than the T7 (for the base model AT). The up-spec version will still come in under the base model AT1100 price. I can't wait ;)
I have a Kawasaki Versys 1000, that I really like, but it is kind of big and heavy, for me. I found you excellent video, while researching the NC750X. It seems like a bike I would enjoy. I need to find one to ride, or maybe not, because I might have to buy it then.
I have a 2017 nc750x i wanted the african twin actually but as soon as i sat on nc750x i was amazed its alot of a bike for that brice... It's good even for 2 people camping trips.... Its ok on offroad, ok in city and ok on higway. So it is a really good bike.
Great review, NC over the X-ADV for me any day, because the frunk is much more convenient than the underseat storage. X-ADV foot forward riding position can cause back pain after several hours of riding. Too bad Honda in my country only sells X-ADV not NC.
HELLO GREAT VIDEO I am British in the Philippines very hard to get any of the three you tested here so i have bought a ADV 150 much smaller brother to the X ADV but very nice to ride, even is good for a bit of off road. TC Bill
AT with the front offroad rims not useful most of the time for normal commuters.. the brakes are nice tho would upgrade NC brakes and suspension to make it the perfect bike for commuting and relaxed "touring". I do note the lack of top speed haha
waiting in the U.S.A. for the X-ADV ...their scoot lineup is so disappointing, Honda neglecting the Silver Wing, dropping and replacing and dropping again the Forza 300.. I understand scooters do not sell well in the U.S. but the X-ADV would find a market I'm sure
I'm sorry to hear that Honda is neglecting the U.S.A. with some models, I don't understand why, although scooters aren't very popular over there, the size of the country should make a big market area.
Good review not alot about the automatic transmission I had a crosstourer for a couple of years never really got on with box especially from stand still and two up I assume your happy with it
I commute on an NC700X that I've had from new. I'm looking to upgrade for a change but am really finding it hard to justify changing to anything (other than a 750X). Even on my 'worst' days I get 3.6 l/100km - Mine lives outside all year round (without a cover) and it's held up pretty well. Some sports of rust but not a lot at all.
I bought a NC700S (the naked version) in 2013 new, still riding it every day with a smile on my face. Just completed 100.000 km. Flawless bike, best decision ever. I also have a 2014 NC750S that my Honda dealer offered me at a very reasonable price, it was used with only 4000km, kind of my weekend bike. The 700S is my every day mule. I chose the S version ( not available in the US) because I really like naked bikes. It is a little lower which suits me since I am only 5'8". I use the bike on gravel and trails as well with caution and never had a problem. By now I am looking back to 40 years on bikes and really can't find a better combination of fuel economy, easy maintenance and durability . And not to forget, once you had a bike with a 'frunk' it's dearly missed on any other bike. Won't get rid of mine. If money comes along I mind get another bike but those two NC's are here to stay. Safe rides 👍🏍
The x adv is a far better bike than the other bikes come on man just say you prefer the nc coz it’s cheaper but the handle bar of the xadv is so comfortable and secure and the
I am used to riding my Godlwing and decided to get me a smaller bike to go off road once in a while. That NC popped out of the list and I decided to get one. What a different bike it is. Automatic with gas tank under the rear seat, it really amaze me to find out all the things I can do with the NC and how little gas it takes.
Very good logic and review, thank you. I almost bought xadv but didnt for seating reasons, not comfortable for taller rider - foot rests too high and too close to seat, xmax 400 is 10 times better for comfort which I find strange. Tried nc loved it, waiting to try integra to decide, but since ncX can go offroad that may be a better choice. Its cheap enough so parts can be upgraded, I think that bike would be perfect with front fork and front wheel upgrade (18"). Btw, what beautiful country is this?
Hello, the Yamaha scooters are much more comfortable for riding around town, but they are not constructed to go off road. We have a small 125cc NMAX for shopping and city cruising. I don't think you have to upgrade the front fork and wheel on the NC, at least try it first with stock parts, I've been in some pretty bad places with it :-)
@@FinnMikeonaBike yes I agree, I didnt mean it as "must do", I am sure its a very capable bike right out of the box. The reason I was comparing xadv to xmax 400 in comfort is, well, its adventure scooter, you would think you could get places in comfort, or should we say its built for more than 5 min comute. Dont know if you have any interest on Integra but I would love to hear your thoughts on it if you ever get a chance to test one.
I saw the video in wich you changed the seat for the givi one. But I mean if the original is enough comfortable or you have to change the seat the second day??? Thanks
Hello Bernardo, I changed the seat for a Shad seat after about one month of riding. I knew before I bought the bike that I wanted to change the seat so I ordered it right away.
@@FinnMikeonaBike Thank you for the information. OMG. The price is quite good, but if I have to change the screen and the seat, an put the handsprotection, uffffff. This almost cost a thousand,???.
Interesting review there, I had a the Honda Integra NC700 for a year or so it is very similar to the NC750 x and ADV X. I found it too heavy for traffic and easy to damage all the plastics and keep clean around chain area so have a Forza 300 now for a commute and an old 2010 CBF600 for weekend rides etc.
I own a 2019 Integra DCT not listed as adventure of course but I would rate it higher than any of these, amazingly comfortable, big fat seat, rock solid on the motorway, true all rounder
Hello Chris, I didn't include the CB500X because I specifically compared bikes with the DCT gearbox. If only the CB500X would come with the DCT it would be a VERY tempting alternative!
I have an NC700X and I love it. I have a bigger windscreen on it along with a few other upgrades. It's great on the road and will manage the dirt and rough stuff but not that fast. That storage compartment is great. If I was going to suggest changes to make it better I would make it a hundred pounds lighter.
I have Nc750x dct, test rode africa t loved it but too big. I stayed with NC. Not test rode X-Adv yet. Will arrange test. Look forward to your upgrades on NC. If only had one bike i could ever have, would get NC. My best time with it was 3 days camping trip in france really got to know the NC. I have 2017 model.
Im considering between NC and Xadv and I cant really decide. I have Forza now and I like the scooter style and I like handbrakes. So its probably going to be Xadv if I get it with alloy wheels. (I hate the looks of the original rims).
The X-ADV is a very good bike, I might have went that way, but we already have one scooter in the family. Either way you will be happy because they are both good bikes 👍 Mukavia ajohetkiä :-)
@@FinnMikeonaBike I had the NC750X DCT, now I have the X-ADV. You can't really feel the difference in weight when rolling. They are both great bikes with a lot of everyday value. DCT is unbeatable for commuting and a great comfort feature when touring. I like the new shiny black of the 2020 model year a lot. Good choice.
Depending on country, it was introduced in retail stores in November-December 2019. But just to make sure I had to check the serial number with Honda and it is a 2020 model :-)
