My 2003 Honda Pilot had clicking noise when the cabin temperature setting was between max cold and max hot. Moverover, I did not had temperature control beside max cold and max hot. After I cleaned the temperature blend door actuator and re-grease it with dielectric grease. Problem solved. It saved me some money to buy a new actuator. Hope the video can help you fix the same problem on your Honda Pilot.
Thanks for watching

Wanted to share this tip on how to reinstall a blend-door actuator. Just fixed my 2007 MDX driver side. It's a real bear to reach, and I had to do it by touch because I couldn't see up there and could only get one hand on it. So I took photos while working on getting it out so I could find the screws by feel. That worked, but you can't reverse the process. Instead I took three screws about 2 inches long and cut the heads off. Then I screwed them into the mounting holes just one turn or so, leaving them sticking way out of the holes. Now I could easily put the actuator over those screws and get the pins into the door slots. Then I removed the long cutoff screws one-by-one and inserted the original screws (again single-handed and blind). That was easy because the holes were all lined up and the actuator wasn't trying to fall out.

OMG how did you stand on your head to show all that. Really well done video. I liked the stopping points that showed the vital steps. Great job! I think this blend door motor is my culprit. Thank you for this information on video. I have this exact blend door actuator and after discovering the unit was no longer working I performed the cleaning process as you suggested. Afterwards, when testing the unit it worked for about one minute then unfortunately stopped working again. During disassembly and cleaning I noticed on the back side of the large drive wheel that some of the electric copper contact tracks have worn through the protective coating. Hard to see what the naked eye. I could only see the worn pattern using powerful magnifying glass. If these wheels become worn the actuator will need to be replaced.

true it may be a temporary fix but it may also last another 4 years... It's a good idea to learn to service these actuator units because there are more of those modules on both sides of the heater box An then again the side MIRRORS share the exact same design issue.... Many other US auto companies have adopted this amazing money maker with similar failure rates.

Stuck on heat. Took it out, took it apart,everything looked good, cleaned it anyway, lubed everything with dielectric, even the run where the arm slides. Works like new. Defies logic.
@Jeremy.Bearemy
@Jeremy.Bearemy 5 месяцев назад
I don't think that defies logic at all. The inner gear is a big potentiometer where those little sweeper arms contact. If they could not make electrical contact with the gear, the control circuit would have no way of knowing where the blend door is. When you cleaned it, you restored the electric circuit

The actuator has a feedback circuit, so it knows exactly what position the actuator is in. When the contacts get dirty the position signal gets erratic, so it hunts as it tries to find the spot it needs to be in. Once you clean the contacts it gets a clean signal and doesn't hunt for the position any more.
@kooaing

today I open it and found out what is nosie maker. Noise came from motor gear is moving then hit housing and gear stopper over and over. This cause of gear ID wear out. So Piece of thin paper would help fitment between gear and motor shaft.

Great vid, will do this to my 2007 Honda Pilot soon. This maybe a silly question, when you set to max cold before removing actuator, you only meant just the dial right? the AC is actually off or on? Also, any chance you can make a video on the door lock actuators/ replacement for the rear passenger doors? Thanks alot

@luxehugz9164
@luxehugz9164 3 года назад
@@ezauto1911...is the blower under the passenger side front dash the only one for the whole system? If so it might be a loose connection along with a defrost vent actuator. Because nothing stops it from making it all the way to the back.

Do you have no air coming out from the back when you turn on the heat or AC? Hey brother, great video! I have an issue. My actuator wasn't working at all, so I removed it and opened up the module. I cleaned off all the loose grease on the electrical contacts, and made sure none of the teeth on the gears were stripped or broken. The gears looked and worked fine. Reinstalled and now the actuator only initializes to one certain position...and stays there forever. No matter where I position the arm, once I turn on the car, it always goes back to that one same position, then never responds to any climate control commands. Is the actuator broken or is there some sort of reset procedure I need to do? The motor should be fine since the arm swings...but it seems like it has a memory and only goes to one spot. Any ideas? Thanks.

It sounds like you have power to the actuator. It could be the the sensor in the actuator is wear out. The copper strips on the big gear. You can buy an aftermarket actuator from Amazon and give it try. It is tough because I don't know what is the max cold and max hot on the position sensor (the big gear I cleaned in the video). If the actuator is of order, maybe the position sensor is worn out. I think you can buy a new after market actuator from Amazon and give it a try. Yes mine has been clicking for a couple of years. The other day I had ac on full auto and on 66 degrees as I almost always keep it. It was morning so it's normal for not much air to be coming out of the vents. I'm noticing man I'm getting hot. I turned the temp down and hot air started blowing out of the vents. Long story short I looked up this repair did everything as said but I've figured out the hot temp settings are ac and cold settings are hot so the actuator is reversed. When the arm pulls back towards the actuator when you say set it to cold. Mine has to be put on max hot to pull the metal rod back towards the actuator or passenger side. Make sense? Reckon the actuator is just bad?
