What if it is intermittent sometimes it's cold and another time it's not cool enough I ran a trouble test on the ac system and did not get a trouble code I saw the test on youtube where are you hold the rear defroster and the recirculating button then switch the car the number two position
I'm in AZ. I was wondering since it's been so hot if that was a possible factor of my A/C acting up since my car is only 2yrs old. I have a 2017 Honda civic and its pretty upsetting that its happening so soon. Nevertheless, your video was some well needed clarification!
Do you ever see this problem because it's so darn hot the right side is boiling off all the refrigerant? i.e. it's 110F out and you see 60F coming out of the right and 90F out of the left and the heat load is too much for the A/C to cool off the car enough for the two to equalze? Meaning that neither of the problems you described is the issue. In my experience driving through hotter climates it seems like no small car has an AC strong enough to really cool things down in a reasonable amount of time.
Thank you, sir! You saved my remaining hairline 🤣You were absolutely correct, it was low on freon. My brother lend me his a/c gauge and purchased a small bottle of freon. Charged the a/c system in small quantities while monitoring the vents with a temperature gauge. I got it down to 42 degrees vs 75 degrees. The wife was starting to worry about her Ody not keeping her cool while driving in the desert heat that reaches 122 degrees 🥵Thanks for the video! 👍 Happy wife = Happy life 🤙
Yo big dog, I started having this problem with my 2020 civic ex. No duo climate control. I will check my Freon tomorrow and I hope that is the problem. By the way, super great video. Keep it up 🎉
I just replaced the blend door actuator on the driver side. Still blowing hot on driver side. I will try recharging the Freon. I will give update in a bit. UPDATE: Yep, I just needed to recharge the Freon. Actuator didn't really need a replacement just needs to be regreased. Keeping the actuator as a spare.
On a 12 hour drive back from NC yesterday in my 2005 Honda Odyssey (best car I ever owned), it started blowing hot air on left and cool/cold air on the right. I'll trouble shoot later to start narrowing down the fix. A GREAT VIDEO at explaining the system operation !!!
i have this issue right now on my 2010 civic, the passenger side vent (just the one on the right) is cold and the driver and middle vents are warm. I have checked the AC relay (OK), checked the temp ix door (its working), performed a hvac self test and no lights flash, checked r-gas with the fill can kits and its in the blue (filled). Not sure what else it can be. I noticed first thing in the am when it is a bit cool outside, all vents are ok and then within 10 to 15 mins same issue happens. Any help would be awesome!
This one video assured me that I must subscribe.....great job with the video...informative, simple and yet effective (liked, comment, subscribed and shared) 👍🏿
Finally someone who fully understands the problem and the system and explains it clearly. I've always wondered why the left was warmer than the right. I have the climate control with dual doors. My issue ended up being low refrigerant.
Mine is doing this exact thing....ice cold on passenger side n just cold on driver side....mecanic only checked my ps vent...then i realized it was only my ds that felt warm...im gonna get it charged now
Early 10th Honda Civic models have a 10 year extended warranty for the condenser because it was poorly designed. I'm having the same problem shown on the video so I'm taking my car to the dealership this weekend to have the condenser checked out.
@@guitarhero9592 The dealership said the compressor was leaking and the condenser was fine. The dealership wanted to charge me around $1200 to replace the compressor and they would give me a free condenser with that (I just think they were trying to scam me). I added some refrigerant and my AC has been running fine since.
@@njo6480 Check Top Class Actions search Honda class action alleges civic a/c defect page 87 Anthony Alvaro post dated May 19 2023 states Honda now covers compressor with campaign and service bulletin. Hope this is helpful. Good luck.
@@njo6480 the compressor is now covered for 10 years just like the condenser. But it’s not listed as a recall. If it’s been awhile, check back with them. My dealer put me on hold awhile then came back and confirmed. My Civic is a 2016 good luck
That was an excellent video which explains the issue. I think I need to recharge my 2006 Honda Accord, which has never had any refrigerant added to the system! Thank you and best wishes.
Thanks for that thorough information, it was very helpful and understandable to a woman who knows very little about the AC issues, this is the problem I’m having and I’m gonna go to Autozone and get some and let my son fix it ASAP. Thank you 😊
my 2010 cr-v is blowing the opposite its cold on the driver side and hot on the passenger side. I dont have heat on the driver side. I know the door motor is not working right if it goes to defrost it wont to back to other blower positions, feet, head, or both. till it MAGICALY moves again.
Thanks for the huge help! 2017 Civic driver side is warm so it's probably due to a leak, and hopefully it's the AC Compressor leaking which would be covered by Honda's TSB extended warranty.
Liked 👍 questions however, in my wife's 09 4 door accord, it's not warm at all on the left side. The ac pump is turned off. The heat is on. What might you say the problem is then?
If it just happened after work was done, then I would double check work. Some things I would look at for no heat: low coolant level, air in cooling system, proper operation of engine coolant temp (ECT) sensors (ECT 1 and ECT 2), thermostat issues, air mix motor issues (especially if it is a dual climate control system), recirculation control motor issues.
My 2014 jeep JKU is doing this exact thing. 44/57 on my passenger vents and 87 on my driver vents. Blend door and position selectors are working like normal.
Having this problem on my 2013 Odyssey. Air mix door motor is working just fine. On a humid 84 degree day, I’m getting 55 degree air out of the right side vents and 78 degree air out of the left. I’m also getting all the warm air out of the front windshield defog.
Hello Thank you for drawing and theory how AC work I have 2015 Acura RDX if I set fan at low speed driver side and passenger side are cold normal if I increase speed fan speed to maximum the driver side blow warm and passenger side blow cold how do I resolve this problem. Thx
Having same issue on my 2015 Acura RDX. Did research and I was about to order and replace the air blender actuator but one commenter said check the refrigerant first before ordering parts. Took it to a mechanic and he recharged it for $120. Lo and behold, AC now blows ice cold air on all vents. Thank God! Mechanic joked: if you get sick, don't blame me
Very descriptive man thank you very much I'm going to go try coolant right now regardless if adding the coolant works I know exactly what I have to do so I appreciate you so much.
Hey @bigdog50001, I’m having the same issue so I checked the Freon & added accordingly but that didn’t fix it. I then checked the blend door actuator and that is working fine, I pulled the actuator off to rotate the gear by hand to see if I can feel the door open & close and that was ok. Next step I had the compressor changed & that didn’t fix the issue either. While driving on the highway the air is much cooler but dead stop it’s back to warm on driver side cool on passenger side. Do you think maybe it could be the TXV or the evaporator?
Excellent vid, great job explaining how it all works! I'm researching an issue with my 2017 Civic EX, the right vent in the middle blows cold, the rest don't. Thinking it could be low on refrigerant however it's YF so it's tricky and expensive, have you seen a similar issue on these? Thanks again!
Yes, just had mine replaced today and the service advisor told me Im lucky my car still under warranty otherwise I was looking at $1,200 with labor and parts.
I appreciate the video. My issue is that when you are idling on my honda odyssey it blows warm air on the drivers side while the passenger stays cool. Now when you start to drive then the drivers side begins again to blow cool air once more. What can this be?
@@BigDog50001 Thanks for the reply. I did see both fans running while the car was idling if that helps. When i put the a/c low pressure reader on it shows to be in the green which indicates to me that freon is ok.

my 2008 accord i usually set temperature at 20 c which is not too cold nor hot for me ,now i notice even if i bump up the temperature to 25 i still get the cold air at 26 i feel the warm air , ur explanation doesn't seem to be fitting in my problem, am i correct:? any expert opinion of urs pls
Hi I have the same problem but got heat. Maybe AC too, but it's too cold to test right now. So heat doesn't work on the left (driver side). All good on the right. Would the same fix apply?
Calling all Honda insight and CR-V owners. There was a national recall on an AC condenser part. If your AC is blowing warm air , it is most likely a FAULTY CONDENSER. I took my 2019 insight to the dealership , and they suspected a faulty condenser. Replaced for FREE WITH FREE REFRIGERANT
The air coming out middle consuls is blowing hot on driver side and cold on passenger side my mom doesn’t wanna press to many buttons thinking it will break I see why the driver side has the problem because someone driving can control their side they wouldn’t care to have the passenger the back seats cold or not if no1 is in it
On a dual climate system, I would verify that the Driver's Air Mix Motor was working properly (can also called driver's temperature motor assembly or driver's blend door actuator).
In all my years doing a/c work, I never saw a low refrigerant charge cause temp variance in vents, esp. in Hondas. Instead, in Hondas, the mix door actuator goes bad. That's as common as you'll find. It's easy to replace too.
@@chriscadman5715 Low charge will do it every time on my 03 Accord. The leak is so small, it takes 2 years before it needs a charge. Then there are all the others I've seen in the Honda shop where I worked for 20 years. In all those years, never had a bad door motor. Now if it were a Ford or a chevy...
Chris Cadman I have this issue right now, and nothing on RU-vid or the internet forums have the answer. Took it into a A.C mechanic and got it diagnosed, and he said the condensor fan wasn't working, the tx valve and evaporator was maybe blocked and was quoted to change the whole A.C system. everything a.c compressor, tx valve, tea bag filter, evap coil, condensor, fan and a Re-gas and wanted $3000. Turned out to be a $15 fix lol
Yes it is very possible, the newer vehicles are now equipped with R1234yf refrigerant and it is much more prone to developing leaks than the older R134a.
On our 2006 Accord with dual (left/right) blend door motors, the left one is definitely not good. If we ONLY use the standard cold/hot control (that operates both L & R) it works OK. But if anyone operates the L & R independently, the left motor loses its mind completely, sending nothing but hot air. The temp “fix” is to move the common L/R hot-cold buttons all the way HOT, back to all the way COLD, do that a few times and the left motor eventually syncs back. It’s a project for another day.
Wondering this too. There is still air being blown out, but it's outside air temperature, or close to. Our car has dual control, reckon I will see if it's charged with refrigerant and go from there.
HELP PLEASE. I own a 2010 Acura TL 105,790 miles. I HAVE HAD 4 EVAC/Freon replacements done In the last 4-6 wks & replaced driver side acuator. ITS STILL HOT on the left/drivers side😡😡😡😡😡 3 shops say there is an obstruction BUT NO ONE HAS FOUND IT!!!!! I’ve paid almost $1k trying to get it fixed. What do you suggest?
Sept 08, 2020 ( Hi... I do have air blowing on the passenger side and hot air on the driver side.... in the compressor is coming on ... ( this started about eight days ago..... ( 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L ) ( will a trouble code show up in the messenger Center )
Thanks for the info. My 2018 accord is blowing warm on the left side. It has enough refrigerant. I'm trying to see what component do I need to replace to fix the AC from blowing warm on the left side back to blowing cold. What do I need to replace?
Im experiencing this now with our 06 Odyssey with 232K miles. Drivers side is hot and passenger out. But when I turned the ac lower to 58 degrees both are cold. Dunno why?
so what if it was on the right passenger side and switched to the left driver side after I swapped a new cabin filter (2012 Acura TL). i pulled the motors thinking one was bad but theyre not. Also, the cabin filter was full of tree leaves and sticks so i was wondering 1. HTF and 2. could a stick be stuck in there somewhere holding the blend door open on one side ? 3. Why would the heat swap from the right to the left just changing the cabin filter?
I have a 2006 Honda Accord EX that has this problem. The door blend actuator on the driver's side was replaced since it was broken. The problem was still there so I recharged my system with freon (19 oz.) and still no success. I now found out that the recirculation actuator on the driver's side is also not moving its arm at all so I ordered a new one. I tried moving the blend door manually but the problem still persists. This car has 3 actuators under the dash and the 3rd one (the mode actuator) appears to be working well. However, I think I've found 2 problems with the system recharge. The first is that both valve cores are bad as they are slowly leaking and second, the ac manifold readings are off from what I think is considered normal. The ambient temp here is about 86 °F. With engine off: Low side --> ~105 psi and High side - - > ~105 psi. With engine on and ac on: Low side --> ~20 psi and High side ---> ~65 psi. I added 19 oz. of freon as that's what the service manual calls for. Should I replace the valve cores and add more freon to try to raise the pressures?
I'm having this same issue driver side is warm at 34 setting but if I turn it down. To 12 then it's cold like passenger side whats going on any help please lol I don't think low fridgerant would do that because all would be warm
Thank God! Mechanic joked: if you get sick, don't blame me
Could it be that one of the radiator fans are not working? If that's the reason why there is no cooler air coming on the left side than on the right. Because I'm having this issue rn. It's weird because I just got my ac installed a few months back and now it's already acting up.
Typically a bad cooling fan will reduce A/C vent temps on both sides (and generally more so at low speeds or sitting at an idle), it can also cause engine to run hotter. That being said, I have seen problems where the refrigerant is low AND one of the cooling fans isn't working (or not working on all speeds) and that could show up as uneven vents temps in addition to poor cooling.
My passenger side started blowing cold air when the heat was on, drivers side was blowing heat like it should. Replaced the passenger side blend door actuator and then it’s reversed. With the AC on I get cold air like I’d expect from the drivers side but now hot air from the passenger side. Any help?
Nice video…..I was having this exact problem on my 2008 Honda CRV. In fact, the left side was about 23° warmer. I checked the Freon and it was right at 40 psi, but right now the ambient temperature is 110 in Vegas. I took the PSI up to 50 and now both sides blow nice and cold! I should’ve done this about two or three years ago when i noticed the driver side was warmer! Thanks again
So mine had all blend doors replaced and freon fully charged however mine still blows warmer on driver side and cold on pass side. Could the expansion valve be half way stuck or not functioning properly and be causing this issue. Thanks
Riddle me this: why would I only get cold air from the vent that's just to the right of the steering wheel in my 2007 Civic? The far left is cool-ish, third vent is cool-ish, far-right is warm.
Okay, so I really appreciate this video. I'm having a problem with my vents. In my 2005 Honda Pilot, facing the dash (like you do) the far left (driver's side left) vent has cool air, while nothing is coming out of the other dash vents. Is this low refrigerant, or a defective part somewhere? Thank you, Big Dog50001 Automotive.
I have a Honda HRV 2016 and the left vent does not blow out any air at all. Just had the filters changed too and issue was not present before. Could it be an issue with the installation or a sensor issue. Theh want to charge me $125 just for diagnostics even though the issue was not present before I took it for the filter change.
Actuator door works and I have fresh refrigerant in my dual setting pilot. Still having the problem of cold air on passenger side and less cold on driver side.
Wats up big dog wat does it mean wen the a c works only on number 4 speed number 1. 2. 3. Don't work what does that mean need help 2001 honda acord l x
Ok but I keep trying to add Freon and it won’t gain any pressure just sits between low and filled section clutch is working, I can’t find anything on why it won’t fill.
This has been an issue with my 2012 Nissan Sentra… just took it to the shop 2 weeks ago & they added Freon .. it was working great for first week.. now week 3 and it’s doing the same thing.. I know just matter of time until they all blow hot..that what happened last time
Thanks for the information. I took the van to dealership. They replaced the motors and adjusted the freon level. The driver's side still blows warmer at idle but cooler when can is is motion. What could be the cause? The condenser fan? Thanks.
Typically it gets low over time from small leaks but it is possible it could be low due to faulty service or incorrect recharge amount. A normally working system is not 100% sealed and will leak enough refrigerant out to be noticeable after 5-7 years.
@@BigDog50001 Thanks for the response. I have a 2016 Honda civic with 50,000 miles. I just figured it was too new to have a leak. I guess i'll just charge it and see how it holds over time.
I have an 05 Honda Accord where if the AC is on, it will only blow cold out of the right side. However if the heat is on oh, it will only blow the heat from the right side. It just seems to blow whatever temperature is coming through the vents out the left. I.e. if it's cold outside I'm getting cold air on the left, if it's hot outside I'm getting hot air coming through the left. Would you say that it could be the blower door for the left side?
Hi, I need to get some advice regarding my 2017 Honda Civic. On June 6, 2022 I took my vehicle to a Honda dealership because it was blowing hot air on the driver's side when the A/C was on. They replaced the condenser, O rings and dye due to a leak. I'm having the exact same problem again. Could a new condenser fail within 4 months? I'm seeing that it takes 3-5 hours to replace a condenser, Is that correct because the dealership did the work in 1 1/2 hours? How would I know if the condenser was actually replaced vs patching the leak since it's problematic again? Thank you.
There are definitely issues with leaks at/near the condensers on newer Civics. The techs at the dealerships have replaced so many that they can typically do it much faster than the book time now. At 4 months, the dealer should at least look at it for you due to the same complaint (however there are many things that can cause this issue besides leaks at condenser).
Where you have Left and Right, which is the driver's side vs. passenger's side? This always confuses me on cars. Is it looking at it from the driver's perspective (sitting in driver's seat) or the mechanic's perspective (standing in front of engine compartment).
