I have a Honda Rancher 420 4 wheeler and it’s been one tough robust 4 wheeler when compared to Polaris, appeared much more substantial. Mine is 4 wheel drive and even has power steering. I once pulled a very very large Kubota zero turn mower out of a mud hole that was high sided to its frame with little effort, a task even his pickup truck could not accomplish and proved my neighbor wrong when he said it would not do it!, Anyway it has been very reliable these past 4 yrs and now I’m looking hard at the Honda 1000 side by side. Thxs, Great vlog!

No doubt the hondas are tough machines and in my opinion the most reliable on the market. The rancher is a great machine , my cousin has three of them and the most maintenance we have done has been one starter and batteries, well other than routine oil and breather changes. If your looking at the pioneer line you won't be disappointed, I have been more than pleased with mine! Especially its options and capabilities so far. My 1000-5 is one of the best purchases i have ever made. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching

Thanks for this great review. Looking to purchase our first SxS. Other family have RZR’s and say can’t go wrong, but kinda like you, I’m real iffy with anything that is belt driven. I will likely pull the trigger on this 1000-5. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and certainly your up-grades, which are pretty sweet!

I have a red Pioneer 1000-5! Love it! I use it for trips to the woods to cut wood and haul logs back out! Mine is a 2019. The only thing I do not like is the driver side front wheel flare folds down underneath of the driver side door. I keep breaking it loose with my foot when I get out if my boot hits is just right. On trails the ride in the back seats is wild going over 25mph! Kicks the poop out of you! I am 6'4" and it rides well in the front but cramped for me in the back. I had a recent recall that I took to the Honda Dealer and they fixed it promptly along with another recall that came out the day they took it in the shop and checked for other issues from Honda. So so far like the service at my dealer too! As a Cheesehead I too like the way you say, "Yamahaow"! :)
@pineylife
@pineylife 3 года назад
They are great machines and Honda service has been great to me also. I just received a recall on a steering component but gave not took it in yet. Hunting season is not over. Lol. I have not had any issues yet with the fender flare or lower trim but I will keep a eye out for that. My country accent can get thick at times lol. Thank you fir your support of our channel and thanks for watching. Happy new year to y’all from Tennessee!
@tomfitzgerald673
@tomfitzgerald673 3 года назад
Well you would sure make fun of my accent if I was in your part of the country. I was born and raised in SE Michigan near Toledo, Oh but now live in Manitowoc, WI near Lake Michigan 30 miles southeast of Green Bay! These Cheeseheads along the Lakeshore really really have an accent. I am not a deer hunter but my son in-law and grandsons are! After the Green Bay Packers, Deer Hunting is like another religion here, after that comes Sturgeon Spearing and ice fishing! LoL The steering is one of the things my dealer fixed. I think they might find a second issue for you when they check the records on the computer, that is what happened to me. Anyways wanted to thank you, your video made me think of things I want to add to my 2019, I don’t want all the stuff you have but the dual batteries looks like something I should do. The winch steel cable just broke while my son in-law was plowing six” of snow with the Pioneer. What is your opinion on steel cable or the synthetic rope? When I bought the Pioneer I had the heavy duty brush guard installed and a Warn 4500 lb winch. Looks like to replace the cable I have to take the entire guard and plow plate off the machine. That is why I found your video helpful. Doesn’t look like that bad of a job. Happy New Years and Thanks again! Fitz. PS after your video I guessed you were in Northern Georgia, I was close! LoL.,..
@pineylife
@pineylife 3 года назад
@@tomfitzgerald673 lol. I would say our conversation in person would be interesting. Lol. Sounds like your son-in-law and boys have it as bad as we do on the deer hunting.. if you are running that plow with the winch then for sure the tru dual battery system is a must. You can run that winch completely off the second battery and still have your first battery for the rest of the pioneer while the tru dual isolator keeps both batteries charged through your alternator. I have the exact same winch on mine and its just my preference but I would put a steel cable back on it. The super winch is easy to thread a new cable in and the front bumper is not to hard to remove to get to the winch. Let me know how it goes on the new cable and also good guess on the accent. North Georgia was real close. Also thanks for the support of our channel all the way up in Wisconsin.

I have the p500 in camo for hunting and ice fishing but my next purchase is the 1000 5 seat. Where I live the trails are super tight which is why I will be keeping the p500 for hunting. And the 1000 is gonna be for main trail riding with the wife and dogs. Funny thing is the wife suggested the 1000 because we have two Bernese mounted dogs and they go every where with us lol. @@pineylife Thanks! It was an amazing hunt. The weather was perfect and the goats were plentiful. My intention was to take one with my bow but the open prairie didn't offer enough cover to slip into bow range. Made a 1300 yard stalk and finally made the shot at 455 yards with my rifle. Still picking cactus spines out of my shin! LOL. It was the first time I had ever hunted them and my buck, just barely made the Boone & Crockett record book. It’s a nice machine with one other flaw other than cab heat. Slow, rough terrain is hard to drive “smooth” over in terms of the driver bouncing the throttle creating the bucking. I hate that about this sxs. It’s like an old truck in granny gear doing the huckle buck and the only thing you can do is pull foot completely off throttle pedal. Honda needs to remedy that.

Yes they love riding in the pioneer but I would have to say I get some complaints from heat at there feet in the hot days of summer. @pineylife 2 года назад
Hello, actually it is a problem on the Honda pioneer 1000-5. Mine is a lot better after adding the DEI heat shield kit. My daughters ride in the back when we are checking traps or trail cameras and the feet area can get hot-at low speeds. No issues while driving at a normal or higher rate of speed. I have actually been looking at making a some heat shields for the bed. Hopefully that video is coming soon. The main reason I like the pioneer is the reliability and it doesn’t have a belt. Check out my video on the heat shield kit. Let me know if you have any other questions and keep me posted on what you end up getting.

It’s a little tight back there. The biggest issues is there legs. The seats sit low and puts your knees up at a angle. Boat cushions work well and pur pro makes some seat cushions that work really well for that issue. If it’s a long ride they will get uncomfortable real quick without a cushion.

I recently sold my Kawasaki Mule which I liked a lot and used much more for work. The reason I sold it was I was using it to mow with a tow behind mower. Apparently the Mules don't do well going that slow and it was knocking a sensor out of whack. So, I am looking at a Pioneer 700-4. Do you have any information on using those at long term slow speeds especially since they don't have h/l. Thanks!

I have used mules and gators on the job site and they both are good machines. We have a 2018 honda pioneer 700 at our work and actually the low speed works very well on pulling the weed sprayer but i have not tested it pulling a mowing attachment. I think it would do fine because the 1000 dont have a problem pulling in anyway but keeping it between 5 to 8 mph can be a struggle even in low because it has a sensitive pedal. uphills is perfect but down hill and curves can get a little fast. The 700 doesn't seem to do that as bad on downhill runs. Hope this helps and thanks for watching

Yes i got them from amazon. 1.750 diameter roll bar clamp with adjustable brackets. I will be doing a video with link soon.

@@pineylife I bought these www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08DKJMYVH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but they were on the tight side, no room to put the sponge pads, i broke one bracket trying to put the bolt through and damaged the roll bar paint :(
@pineylife
@pineylife 3 года назад
@@MasterRobinHood I actually had the same brackets and they worked on the back rollbar good but i had the same issue with the second set. When you bend them wide enough to get over the bar then they wont line up right. I'm in search of better clamps.
@MasterRobinHood
@MasterRobinHood 3 года назад
@@pineylife It does seem that Pioneer frame is slightly larger than standard 1.75 inch. Actually what solved my issue was just to buy slightly narrower, longer stainless steel bolts. (Think they were standard 1/4 inch carriage bolts) Because the clamps now didn't completely close, the secondary ear bracket rattled a bit because of the small gap. A very short piece of fuel tubing on each side of the secondary bracket with the bolt running through it fixed that and looks great. Will update how it behaves on the really bumpy trails, but sure seems solid! Thanks for responding!

@@MasterRobinHood Thanks for the heads up. Actually i was shooting a video last night on the brackets and mirror. I disassembled mine and got the new sammanlite brackets in 1.750. opened them up to fit around the roll cage and once i tried to reinstall the bolt through the main bracket it wouldn't line up so i ran out of time. I will get some narrow carriage bolts and try that. If i finish the video and post it i will give you props on it. Thanks for the info

Have you ever had to adjust the diff lock cables? I have a 2020 and it's not right, dealer said it was fine but I have owned Honda for over 20 years And had to make minor adjustments like this before
@pineylife
@pineylife 3 года назад
No i haven't had any issues with my 2018 yet. I have heard of people having issues and having to adjust them but mine has been fine and it sees diff lock a lot with me pulling trees out of the way on trails and retrieving deer in rough areas. Thanks for the inquiry and thanks for watching. Let me know if you find a solution please. That way we can inform others.

@@pineylife The Richmond Honda dealership contacted my wife and said they didn't find any problems with it being out of adjustment, so we are having to pay an hour shop labor, but it shouldn't take 250 yards for it to shift into 2 wheel posi, factory specs state 1/4 turn of the rear tire to engage and disengage..I called Honda directly and that's what the factory specs state..
@pineylife
@pineylife 3 года назад
@@TheDavecali64That's a pretty bad service department to charge you labor when there has to be a issue with the diff or the cables. i always put mine in neutral and shift into diff lock. Then put it in low. My pioneer wont roll a tire a complete turn before engaging same on disengaging. Honda told you right on the factory specs.

Looks like it seats 2 people, where do the other 3 sit?

The 1000 seats three in the front because of the bench seat and then the other 2 seats are flip up seats in the bed. They just fold down when you need to haul something in the dump bed and then you can flip them back up for passengers.

Any idea if Honda has done anything about the cabin heat in newer models?
@pineylife

As far as I know they haven't made any changes at all from 2018 thru 2021. I don't think they will do much heat insulation under the seat due to it being in the way of maintenance.

I’m pretty sure Honda did a recall on this issue....might be a silent one tho...which means u hav to tell a dealer about the problem to hav it fixed! The put a big pc of rubber under the front seat. I saw it on a cpl other RU-vid videos....worth checking out!

@@ericc1599 Just happened to cross this Piney post on his Honda 5. My Honda 5 has been everything I could ask for in a SXS. Problems have been minimal. There was a problem with the clutch when new, and replaced by Honda. Honda actually sent factory tech support to evaluate the clutch and fix. No problems since. Also a common problem with the Pioneers was misaligned front ends from the factory. Excessive front tire wear almost immediately. Dealer fixed, and have had not unusual tire wear since. The Honda dealer also installed a Honda heat kit that made a huge difference. I also purchased from Menards a roll of 1/2 inch flex bubble insulation, cut out a piece and installed under removable seat. This also makes a real big difference. Note: I remove in the winter for the engine heat. Now have about 3,500 miles, and would only consider a Honda in the future if the need be. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I own a Polaris or a Can Am. You can wear a trailer out just hauling them back and forth from the dealer, not to mention the HORIBLE customer service you experience. One last thing regarding the Honda 5, and its closest relatives in the Pioneer and Talon series, the gauge cluster is a disaster. The read outs are two small, and indiscernible, not to mention they are a dust magnet. Thanks for hearing me out.

@@corona123ify I just replaced my tires due to the front end alignment change on the drivers side. I would have just replaced the fronts but i decided to change all the tires out to DOT tread design for road use. On the heat kit removal that is one thing that i am hoping to modify on mine. Because i sure could have used mine this past deer season. lol. love the honda s and really loved your comment about wearing out a trailer. also on the gauge cluster i couldn't agree more. Very hard to see and constantly cleaning the dust and dirt out. Thanks for the comment and info on your pioneer.
