We have a 1000-5 in Costa Rica and got self adhesive heat reflective insulation and just applied it to the back of the seat. It really made a difference. For only $50 on Amazon, we got more than enough for 2 units. We also have a bilge fan in the engine bay, vented thru the floor and really don't have any heat issue now. We took a 3 hour road trip in 90 degree heat and without getting hot from the engine.
When saying a 3 hr. road trip. What speeds are you traveling and what type of terrain. My heat problem is when travelling at slower speeds 15-20 kph and hilly curvy terrain. Curious if it would help me in those conditions?
@@danielhochhausen1634 the heat shield on the back of the seat will help in any conditions as well the fans. Slower speeds might not cause as much heat, but going slower will not disapate the heat as fast either.
I tried to buy one of these from my Honda dealer, but they would not sell or install it. They said adding it will void the Pioneer's warranty because it interferes with heat dissipation. We tried one anyhow, but it created a problem with too much heat retained around the engine and the engine would overheat and sputter or just cut off. I live in Mississippi and summers here are bad. We ended up removing it and adding an electric fan mounted alongside the engine, with a switch and temperature sensor, which works pretty good.
Mike Moncrief glad you got the issue fixed and thanks for the info. I have a full 6 year extended warranty on mine and my dealer said it was fine to install. Might be just difference in Temps and states. I will look into the fan you suggested might be something I want to do down the road. Thanks for watching
Thank you and your welcome. Yes it should work that's what mine is and they haven't changed the pioneer from 2016 to 2021. There is a lot of people making there own homemade kits and the kits has gotten cheaper over the last three years. But i can tell you from experience this DEI kit is a good kit!
Congrats on your purchase. From what I have seen from the dealership. Honda has not changed a single thing on the pioneer as for as structure. The only change has been different color options. 2016 to 2022 should be the same. My kit said 2016 and mine is a 2018 and I install one on a 2020 not long ago and it was the same. This should fit just fine.
Hello, First off great video. I have just a couple of questions for you if you wouldn't mind answering them. I see that you have the OEM under seat storage bin. The question is are still able to use it with the smaller piece of insulation covering it or is that piece intended to stay off for access to the bin? Second, some of the other videos I've watched including DEI's own video says that you have to remove some sort of foam piece from the back of the mid panel. Did you do that? Thanks in advance.
Thank you, I did add the underseat storage before i installed the dei kit. Actually the under seat storage is still usable with the insulation kit on. I just removed a couple of the plastic push pins so that it would flip up when i need access to it. The kit is so ridgid it stays in place. On the insulation i did not remove any foam from the mid panel. Everything is just like it came from the factory. let me know if this helps and thanks for watching.
@@pineylife Thank you for the information. One more question. How do you use your pioneer mostly? Trail riding? meaning gone all day on trails. Working? short periods of time under heavy load. or something else like towing? I'm just curious because I my results would be different if we used them differently.
@@m.cameronray9519 Mainly my pioneer is used for everything hunting and mowing. I use it to haul tree stands, blinds, deer, ladders, etc. Now i do drive it to my lease land which is four miles from my house a couple times a week. More during turkey season and deer season. I also use it pulling my 44 inch rough cut bushog for mowing on the lease also. so I would say more of a working vehicle than trail riding. They are awesome machines.
The directions say not to put it back. But I put mine back over it the insulation. It was a little hard to line the push pins back up. But if you take your time it’s possible.
So did this work? I have the fan from DEI but I’m thinking about just getting rid of my Pioneer. It’s a downright shame because the machine is fine otherwise but the heat is way too excessive.
Chad Dewitt yes it worked great for me. We have had mid 90 days and heat index over a 100 some days. Since the kit install I have pulled the bush hog for hours at a time, been moving tree stands and working it hard. My honest opinion is it cut my cabin heat by 85 percent. Don’t get me wrong your still gonna have some heat. But mines is more comfortable than my uncle tyerx and my cousins can am. That’s just with the kit you see in the video. I haven’t added the fan kit and I don’t think I will have to the insulation is working perfect for me. Oh yeah I forget to mention my from windshield isn’t split. It’s a solid front windshield so no help from getting air in the front. So yes it’s working for me. I will do a video about the summer review also. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Mine has been getting so hot in that compartment I get a power steering light and it won't shift. I think its heating up the computer, but my engine isn't even getting past 2 bars. Has that ever happened to you?
@@m.cameronray9519 Today makes one full year with the heat shield kit. I'm going to be doing a one year review and I hope to have it out tonight or tomorrow night so far im more than happy with the dei kit.
StringybeanAndEggpiece I have had this happen to me a number of times when working the unit hard ( pulling loaded tub trailer and SxS loaded } at slower speeds and in hilly sandy terrain. Also get PCM codes . I disconnect the battery , reconnect and good to go again for a short while. Same day on different part of trip where the trail is wide open and can get more road speed the unit did not act up at all. I have seat insulators and have the rear side corners of the seat insulated with foam so hot air not getting into the cab. I also have a heater core that sits under the seat (drivers side)same place the PCM is. I get all sorts of random PCM codes and P/S codes. A bypass switch for the heater core and a bilge fan to extract the hot air from the area are my next steps.
It's kind of bummer from honda not to have fix this ongoing issue. Japanese proud themselves on being meticulous and constantly improving processes. Not going to buy this.
I agree they should have done a better job on the cabin heat issue. This kit solves the problem for me here in Tennessee but it might not help somebody in a hotter area. But I will say I have worked on alot of side x sides and cabin heat is a issue on all of them. Especially the two seaters that have the engine up between the driver and passengers. Thanks for watching.
