Over the course of my life Ive owned 4 Harleys, numerous Yamahas, bigger Hondas,Ural,Can Am, they all had a personality of their own and then somehow Ive reached 75 yrs. When I saw a Ruckus go by in town I had to find out what it was. The owner was more than willing to give me a tour. Long story short I bought one three years ago. Its still stock but not for long, after watching your videos I going to hop this little mother up and leave this ole earth having the time of my life. The simplicity is the attraction. Cannot wait to start working on it in the spring
I'm not that big into bikes, but I like this thing just because it's different. It's okay for it to be slow, because you have bikes and cars/trucks that are faster. Like a famous man once said, "It's more fun to drive a slow car (or bike, in this case) fast, than to drive a fast car slow." Keep up the good work, bro!
You know what they say: The bigger the bike, the bigger the chip on the shoulder. Most of those "big bike" bros need an attitude adjustment...interpret that how you want.
My Ruckus got stolen. I went to the dealership to buy a new one but I saw a Navi. I got the Navi instead and a few months later I got my motorcycle endorsement. My stock Ruckus would do 45mph and my stock Navi will barely get to 50mph. Considering the Ruckus is way more reliable and no endorsement is required I wish I would have got the Ruckus instead.
@@ImSrry4BeingWhiteI am a true a Honda fan (obviously), but the Navi was the worst Honda I owned. I had a turn signal flasher issue, the spark plug wire was too short and came out of the plug boot while I was riding (this is a common issue), it took a while to start it when cold (longer than other carb’d vehicles), and it was starting to rust. It had 280 miles on it and was always kept in a garage. There were a lot of places where it looked like paint didn’t get into the right crevices.
As the owner of a stock ruckus I too can get to 45mph but not without wind assistance or going downhill. With wind resistance or going uphill I'm looking at 30mph or less. I love my stock Ruckus but I think you have some rose tinted glasses about it's speed capabilities. I'd say it's more of a comparison between an inconsistent 35mph vs a consistent 50mph.
I am buying one!! I have no desire to be a motorcycle rider but I love the ide of buying a "motorcycle" that I can cruise on. I've wanted one for a while. These things a beautiful and these definitely fit the bill for someone like me that also likes to tinker but isn't a mechanic. The amount of fun you can get on these things is great. I'll be getting a GY6 option for 170-232CC and that is all I want.
I love my 2017 Ruck that I bought new. Left all the running gear stock but added the big rack on the back, have a collapsible crate on it for carrying groceries when needed. Put a tube bag on the front rack, and a red bag under the seat, so I can carry a rain proof poncho, a roll up tool kit, my chains and locks, and some bottled water. Had installed a pair of white plastic saddle bags with the turn signals wired into them along with keeping the originals on the front and back. I like it that folks can see that I am planning on turning! In my bags, I carry a 1 liter stainless steel bottle with gasoline in case I cannot find a gas station readily, my winter gloves, etc. I do not mind going slower, heck this is the only motorcycle that I can run full throttle most of the time! Ha ha. But it will still go fast enough in town that I could get a ticket, but never have! I considered the grom when I purchased but in my state anything over 50 cc has to be licensed by the state, so no license, no tag, no insurance and no government bs to fool with…I don’t even have it listed on my property tax list, no need to! I have owned, over the years, Honda 750s, and even an 1800 Goldwing, but Since zi am now in my mid-70s, My long distance riding days are over…and I just love getting on it and going anywhere within a 30 mile radius for lunch! Heck, being retired I have no need to rush anywhere now! Ha ha.
So stoked to see this video! I've been loving my ruckus too - very similar mod style. Happy to see you're dealing with the no cup holder and no ruckus friend life as well... Great update sir.
Tell and I have a lot of experience with Honda scooters and was pretty active with some of the larger scale pocket bikes that were out 10 years ago. The only way to really successfully make that thing faster it was a displacement increase meaning a big bore kit or stroker crank, and those things to do exist for the ruckus. I drove a Honda aero 50 for years in high school.
I have a 1971 Honda trail 70 with the 88cc big bore kit. It’s great off-road, and for cruising around town. It’ll do 45mph comfortably with a nice low purr. It’ll wind out at do 55 if needed on flat or downhill. I love that bike. Indestructible.
Cool content. That said, in my situation, I would drop at least 150cc kit into it. Heck with being worried about putting it into Grom territory...having a sleeper Ruckus would do it for me.
I have owned a Harley for 53 years & made numerous coast to coast rides. Still have 1 & I use it for highway & Interstate riding only. I also have a 2022 Ruckus which I modded to a full stage 2 plus NCY clutch & a performance carb. My normal cruising speed is 45/47mph with a top speed of 51mph but it takes almost 2 miles to achieve it. Was putting in over $2,000 on a new $2,800 bike ? Hell Yes, the Ruckus is the most fun I have had riding since I was 12 & had a mini-bike only it is street legal. Most roads in-town are 35mph or less & it is my daily rider for all city riding. The best thing of all is I am no longer roasting above a hot motor for stop & go traffic in the heat of summer & mine gets 99mpg so its fun to fill up the tank.
Right on! Also gray/blk ‘22 I picked up in summer 2021. Always wanted one and now I have an extra approachable bike for someone, and campground go getter. Loads of fun and always liked the look of the Ruckus. The design does not get old.
Dude I got that same gas tank cover for mine since it's the only one that's symmetrical. Also the front pegs are definitely game changer and in combination with the back ones it really helps with leg comfort on linger rides
I’m from Guam and would recommend against the ruckus. You don’t need a motorcycle endorsement for anything under 125cc and drivers are regularly over the posted speed limit. It’s normal to go at least 45 in the posted 35 zones. So imho a grom or z125 pro would be a better fit if you really wanted a minimoto.
Cool to hear you’re also in Denver!! I was between the ruckus and a grom and wound up picking the grom so it would expand my radius a little more since I already commute by bicycle. Honestly the only thing that pushed me toward the grom is that I could save some money living in the burbs next year. It’s a great metro for something small and affordable like these little Hondas!
It doesn't have to be fast to be fun. Back in the 70s Dad had a small displacement X1/9. 0-60 was like 17 or 18 seconds but it was tons of fun. I can see the Ruckus being a blast on the homestead and for light trail cruising.
The ruckus is great. You don't always need a big impressive bike. The best thing about the ruckus is the low cost entry point. Then you have a large aftermarket support which traveling down that rabbit hole will get you very familiar with your equipment. It's great for enthusiasts that aren't trying to impress anyone. I really like your forward foot pegs! Do they scrape when taking hard turns?
Cool update and good perspective. I’ve been telling myself and my wife for about a year now we’re going to get a replacement vehicle for my broken down truck. But damn I’ve had to pick up a second job and still can’t afford another car or truck yet. Probably just going to get a used ruckus to drive to work for the time being. Leaving my wife and kids without a vehicle all day has taken its toll
Definitely more scooter content…plus SURRON content! Just curious, why don’t you ever take the Suuron on any of your camping adventures? I’ve truly enjoyed watching your channel grow into what it is today. Keep up the good times & enjoy every moment…for it goes by way too fast👍🏼🤙🏼👊🏼
I've been considering one of these just to get comfortable with being on two wheels for a year before challenging the road test for the class 6 (our motorcycle licence). I can't bring myself to be seen on a Yamaha or Vespa soy machine. This is the closest I can get to something I'd actually enjoy from an aesthetic point of view.
6:05 That exhaust is so cute. It's kinda ridiculous how big the muffler section is compared to the like 1/2" or 1" piping on the rest of it, though. Lol.
I moved from the city to the countryside almost 2 years ago now. At 46, I still don't have my car license, since in the city, I did everything by public transport, on foot or by bike. Arriving here, it became urgent to have another mode of transport, having always wanted a scooter, because it is also very economical, I opted for a Honda Ruckus last spring, then, in one season, I I have done more than 1000 km, I really fell in love with this scooter. Unfortunately, in Quebec, there are four seasons: Winter, from December 1 to March 15, it is forbidden to ride a motorcycle without conforming tires, but it is the ideal time to make a complete adjustment. Otherwise, I chose the Ruckus for its industrial look and because it can be modified quite easily, for example, I installed front pegs, because I measure 5.10 feet, I also installed bicycle bags on either side, I can go do my grocery, shopping, np, and it consumes very little fuel, I am surprised every time, how many km I can do before refilling the fuel tank, despite its limited speed, i don't regret having chosen a Ruckus, it's really pleasant.
Loved my Ruckus, had a Grand Axis swap on one (10 years ago) and anther I build for honda motorsports w/ a 150cc swap. This makes me want to throw a stock on on a hitch carrier to bring to camp
Thanks for the videos sharing your experience with the modifications. I just learned about the Rukus a few days ago but my wife gave me the greenlight if it's the 2023 blue/white color scheme! Not sure if I'll mod it right away but definitely would like some more power as the roads around me are very similar to where you're at.
The more I watch these videos the more I want one 😂 I've been going from shitty car to shitty car for like half a decade now and I'm sick of it. For the price of my next car I could easily get one of these brand new off the lot and probably make out just fine as a single person. Assuming there are third party storage mods I can do to it.
So I’ve never owned a scooter before, but if I was to drive this to work, how do you prevent people from just like stealing it or is it just not an issue?
need to do the big bore around 70cc My china special 50 runs a lot stronger now and throw a better carb on it will really enjoy it a lot more can easy to 45-50mph now
Truth be told I love all the content you put out would I like some more motovlogs you bet more edc absolutely more overlanding well yeah haha keep up the great work bro!
I have a ruckus...I ride with my best friend who also has a ruckus....we do country rode riding and hit the city's and go bar hopping on em....so much fun! They allow access to places you don't get with bigger cc bikes! I think people that dog em just because they are slow are prob just too poor to have other bikes for that purpose
How did you get your LED turn signals to work? I wire the new ones in, got an LED flasher relay, grounded the lights and the relay and they only turn on when shutting the engine off. Any suggestions would be awesome!
I got me a 2024 met and I also have a GSX-S1000 and CBR300R! I pick the right tool for the job going to town take the met going on interstate take the liter bikes wanna carve up a tight back road take the 300!
this is a GREAT video.. it's very honest and i really appreciate you doing these mods and basically reporting back that they were 'meh' i can relate to just fucking with things that dont need it and spending money basically to entertain myself through projects.. better than doing drugs or going to the strip club!
