It's no secret that 3rd and 4th gear on the Trail are notorious for bogging down. Several nights ago I rode home and hit an 8% incline and watched my speed fall from 55mph to 37mph in 4th gear. Fortunately, my 13t sprocket (JTF273.13) from OEMCycle has finally showed up and I'm hopeful that this is going to fix the issues I'm having! I read somewhere that one tooth lower in the front is essentially the same as adding 3 teeth to the rear sprocket. This means the CT125 should be able to pull itself around in 3rd and 4th gear and that I should be able to zip up hills a little faster!
Check this video out and see the process for getting to the sprocket, removing the existing one, and replacing it with the brand new 13t sprocket.

I've watched a couple of your videos and just thought I'd help you out a bit. You don't need to pull the black plastic piece off the swing arm to do the job. As for the strap on the wheel, just put the bike in gear and you can take the bolt off the sprocket. Putting them back on requires something to stop the wheel from rotating backwards, I use a piece of bamboo, "very plentiful here in Thailand" or have your buddy hold the rear brake pedal down. We've done extensive testing here in Thailand on the Honda CT and have found that dropping the countershaft sprocket down a tooth from the stock 14T seems to make the ABS stop working on faster runs down the road. Simple to fix as just shutting off the bike and then restarting it will reset the ABS system. You'll know it quit working when the ABS light starts blinking. Seems that installing the 42T rear sprocket for some reason doesn't affect the ABS system nearly as often. Mine has never started flashing since I changed from the the 13T/39T combo to the 14T/42T set up. Check out some of the videos we've done on the Honda CT 125. I like what you are doing, keep it up and I'll be sure to mention you in one of my upcoming videos...... Nice work.....

Thank you for that advice! It makes a lot of sense to just keep it in gear, I wish I had thought of that 😅….and thank you for the encouragement! I really like the videos you make and they helped me decide to get a Trail 125 in the first place!

@@OffRoadRodeo It's a great bike to have a blast on, I'm happy as can be with mine now...... Just shot a bunch of video footage today with a subscriber from the US. He rented an MSX, same as a Grom in the US. It just couldn't keep up with my CT...... Looking forward to your next video.....

Fyi, another easy way to hold the wheel from turning is to have someone press the rear brake.

Ahhhh, yes that’s very smart. Thanks for the tip!

Looking forward to hearing the results on top end speed. I hit a smooth 50mph all day an 60mph when i crouch real low lol. I'm also 6'2 170lbs . Hope to hear good results so I can consider the upgrade myself on mine 🤟

I doubt the dealer checked torque values I’d say the marks are from the factory.

It is a good thing to lube the splines with the best moly one can find before installing the sprocket , Also the stock chain/sprockets are not durable . JT sprockets / DID 428 VX chain are a real nice option, (DID is $$$). I'll let mine eat up its oem parts and then go to the better stuff . Nice video , thanks.

I’ll be sure to lube the splines next time then. Thanks for that tip!

Thank you. Let me know if you have a problem with the ABS light staying on? I have heard that can happen sometimes, but I may be wrong....

Hey, I’ll have a video up in just a few days that walks through everything I am thinking and experiencing using the 13t sprocket. ⚙️

i'm about to go to a 15/40 its a little higher gear than stock. not much. i would love to go to a 15 41 but i cant find a 41 tooth sprocket that will fit. because it only goes from a 2.78 final drive to a 2.73 GRRR but if i go off roading i can drop to back to the 14 or a 13 tooth on the front and have even more power and not have to do anything but adjust the chain. but scared with a 15 40 its drops it to a 2.66 and scared i wont have the power to pull it.

Trying to find a front sprocket for mine and need to know the diameter of the countershaft, 17mm or 20mm?? And corresponding to that is the width of the keeper bolt Holes, center to center of 30mm or 34mm? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Excellent, thanks. I've not done this before, so that gives me some confidence to take a look at my sprocket to check the bolts are tight. Any idea on the torque value for them? I found maybe 54 N.m
@OffRoadRodeo
@OffRoadRodeo 8 месяцев назад
Glad it helped! 54nm IS TOO HIGH! You will likely snap the bolt at that torque. 12nm (9ft lbs) is the correct torque for these bolts.

@@OffRoadRodeo Yes, I agree, thanks for your quick response. That was the Answer Bard gave me. I tried Bard again with some more info and then it said 24nm. Which is double what you said. I think I went to 16-18 in the end. Hopefully that hasn't overtightened them. It was more by feel than measurement in the end. I have the CT125 manual and it doesn't specify the torque for those bolts at all, as far I could see, which is odd.
